With the release of Captain America: Civil War less than two weeks off, Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to shift into overdrive. It may be a long time before Captain Marvel sees action in 2019, but is it possible that Marvel’s already got the perfect lead actress and director in mind?
During this week’s episode of Meet The Movie Press, The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider had some interesting insight into the forthcoming Captain Marvel flick. Although cryptic, Sneider did offer up a curious possibility.
“There was a rumour about an actress being up for it; an already existing rumour, that’s not new. I’ve definitely heard there’s some truth to that rumour, and that there’s a director with the same first name who has also been eyed. I don’t think that [an announcement] is too far off. If they can make it to Comic Con,...

Available now On Demand, and from iTunes, Veronika Decides to Die has released a couple of new clips. The Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle has a great supporting cast, including David Thewlis and Melissa Leo, and looks to be a mind-bending puzzle that actually works.
After attempting suicide, Veronika attempts suicide, but wakes up in a privately-funded psychiatric hospital. Apparently a place with some unusual practices, it looks as though the director of the institution (Thewlis) is attempting to turn Veronika around, and get her to want to live, despite the ironic twist that it looks like she only has a few weeks to live anyway.
It’s not your usual “trapped in a psych ward” film, and this is a cast that should be able to get something interesting out of just about any idea.
Take a look at the new clips below, and don’t forget the trailer.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is taking quite the serious turn in Veronika Decides to Die. She co-stars in the indie drama with Melissa Leo as a patient in a mental institution who decides to commit suicide when she her pyschiatrist (David Thewlis) tells her she only has week to live. Only E! News has this exclusive clip showing the former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star asking another patient (Leo) for help in scoring some fatal pills. "I want to die on my own terms," Gellar says. Leo motions to two staffers in an office at the bottom of the stairs. "When those two geniuses switch off shifts at the end of the day at dinnertime around 7, there's usually a moment when that door is...

Some five years after production and its subsequent release into the rest of the world, Veronika Decides To Die will finally land on U.S. shores. The Paolo Coehlo adaptation lensed back in 2008, and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as a young woman – Veronika – who decides to end her life. Didn’t really have to spell that one out for you; it’s in the title. After swallowing a bunch of pills, she wakes up in a mental hospital and discovers she’s only got a few weeks left to live.
To reignite interest in the movie, Yahoo! has dropped a new trailer, and it definitely serves to point out the gap between production and release. Five years on the shelf and its cast, which also includes David Thewlis, Melissa Leo and Parenthood duo Erika Christensen and Jonathan Tucker, look significantly younger than they do now. That’s the passage of time for you.

After facing monsters in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and creepy ghosts in The Grudge, this time Sarah Michelle Gellar finds terror in her own mind. Veronika Decides to Die is an adaptation of Paulo Coelho's book of the same name, and the first trailer for the thriller has arrived, even though the film was shot in 2008 and release internationally in 2009. The story follows a twentysomething woman who decides to kill herself, despite the fact that she seems to have it all: youth and beauty, boyfriends and a loving family, a fulfilling job. But when her sleeping pill fueled suicide attempt finds her waking up in a mental hospital, she's told she only has days to live. Is this a twisted It's a Wonderful Life remake or something? Here's the first trailer for Emily Young's Veronika Decides to Die, originally from Yahoo: Veronika Decides to Die is directed by...

This is one of the weirder ways that Jk Rowling's story endures. Half a baggage cart bracketed sloppily on to a brick wall, protected by a small green shed tucked to one side of King's Cross station. There's a security camera and a No Smoking sign. A McDonald's across the road.

We all learned a new rule of Oscar etiquette this week; purchasing one's own For Your Consideration ad is where sadness lies.
Melissa Leo, tired of being completely ignored unless it's Oscar time and 2009 and 2011, and even then still not getting her face on any kind of magazine, took matters into her own hands and purchased For Your Consideration ads for herself.
Look at them. Gaze at them. The power of sparkle fur compels you.
So we ask: a necessary evil, or an Oscar party foul?
An argument for the former: Leo has a point. Until Oscars 2009, and frankly after, hers was a name few knew. Then came Frozen River, a little seen, much loved film, and awards and accolades and she probably thought, finally, this was it. That at 48 years old, she'd finally broken out.
But she really hadn't. Which was fine. Back to smaller, more independent, largely ignored films,...

Whether you know her as Buffy Summers, Daphne Blake or the porn star from "Southland Tales," Sarah Michelle Gellar has carved out a place for herself in pop culture for the last decade. So if you see her today, hand her a Mylar balloon and spank her 33 times, as today is her birthday.
Gellar first made an impression on television audiences during her stint on "All My Children" (for which she won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series). But she really made her greatest impact in 1997 when "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premiered on the WB. Gellar starred as the titular demon hunter who tried to balance her life as a high school student, her calling as a protector and her relationship with a hunky vampire named Angel. Though never a huge ratings winner, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" became a cult hit and was a career-maker...

In the P.B. era (post-Buffy, that is), Sarah Michelle Gellar has had largely a hit-and-miss or totally-missed-it movie career. The Grudge in 2004? Hit. The Return in 2006? Miss. Suburban Girl in 2007? Never even heard of it. But as a loyal follower of the Buffyverse, I've always rooted for her to do well. So when I heard about her latest film, Veronika Decides to Die, I was naturally curious, if a tad wary.
Based on the bestselling 1998 novel of the same name by Paulo Coelho, the film follows Veronika, a young woman whose successful outward facade hides her deep depression. So, as the title suggests, she decides to commit suicide. But her attempt fails and she winds up in a mental institution instead, where she is told she has only days to live. Cheery, no. Interesting, yes.
