If you’ve ever fumbled through a dusty old deck of tarot cards, hoping they’d reveal something about your future, Tarot (2024) might just make you think twice before you shuffle again. This horror flick, helmed by first-timers Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, deals a hand that’s both terrifying and delightfully over-the-top. The film taps into the old-school charm of supernatural slashers, where a group of friends find themselves in a deadly game of cosmic consequences.

Like its fellow found footage/mockumentary and Panic Fest 2024 film Jeffrey’s Hell, Worlds begins with an interview. Morgan Williams (Nikki Neurohr) talks about how she and some friends began to see a strange man (Nick Dailey), who always wore all white and a shirt with Worlds written on it, around doing odd things. He’d stare into streetlights as if they were communicating with him, he’d stand perfectly still in the middle of an empty parking lot, he’d move in ways that were somewhere between flailing, yoga, and modern dance. Morgan and her friends began to film the man, who they named Worlds because of his shirt, and send each other the short videos. They didn’t post them publicly and never approached Worlds so they didn’t...

Elliot Page criticized Canada’s rollback of LGBTQ rights on the stage of the Juno Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday night.
“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page, a transgender Halifax native, said in a speech presenting twin singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara with the Junos’ humanitarian award. Page praised the work of the Tegan and Sara Foundation for 2Slgbtq+ youth, supporting health care services to youth programs. Earlier in the week, he said at BFI Flare, London’s LGBTQ film festival, that “30% of young people identify as LGBTQ,” referring to a survey released earlier this year about Gen Z adults in the U.S. “So I’m sorry, but this is not niche.”

Johnny Marr teamed up with a 30-piece orchestra for the first of a two-night homecoming run in Manchester, England.
Across a 16-song setlist, the British guitar icon reimagined songs from his solo repertoire along with classics from The Smiths and his dance project with Bernard Sumner, Electronic. Highlights included “How Soon Is Now?,” “Easy Money,” and, of course, “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out,” during which Marr paid tribute to his late Smiths bandmate, Andy Rourke, who died this past May.
Speaking about the experience, Marr said that he couldn’t “help feeling a little bit emotional” hearing his songs receive symphonic treatment. “I’ve had two experiences of playing with an orchestra — Hans Zimmer, obviously, and also with Pet Shop Boys — but to actually sing in front of an orchestra playing my own work, that’s a first,” he said (per NME). “It’s been really enjoyable working on the arrangements.

Jack Nicholson Isn’t Retired Yet, Says Director James L. Brooks: ‘I Don’t Buy’ That He’s Done Acting
Thirteen years after last appearing onscreen, and Jack Nicholson might still be open to working.
The Oscar winner most recently starred in 2010 rom-com “How Do You Know,” directed by his “Terms of Endearment” helmer James L. Brooks decades after first collaborating on the 1983 drama. Brooks told The Wrap that despite rumors, Nicholson is not retired.
“I don’t think he’s retired,” Brooks said. “I don’t buy that he’s retired.”
He continued, “I remember there was once a friend of mine who one of these raging, alcoholic-driven arguments [with me] about who was the greatest actor at the time. This was at Dustin Hoffman’s height and everything like that. I’m saying Jack Nicholson. He’s saying Dustin Hoffman. I went with [Nicholson] because I said Jack could play either in ‘The Odd Couple.'”

Three months ago, Ray and Sara sparked dating rumors when they packed on the Pda while celebrating her birthday in Los Angeles.
Sara, who is a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, was most recently linked to literary manager Zac Frognowski and they made their last red carpet appearance together during awards season earlier this year.
Ray, who is the son of actor Jack Nicholson, was linked to another famous celebrity kid last year. He’s best known for appearing in the Amazon Prime Video series Panic and the movies Something from Tiffany’s and Out of the Blue.

(Toronto, On – October 12, 2023) Today, Nigerian born, Los Angeles-based artist TOBi delivers his bold new album Panic via RCA Records. Out now, the soulful, funkafied 12-track project further cements TOBi as a chilling storyteller with cleverly-written and tightly-woven bars as he continues to take us through pivotal moments in his life’s journey, but where TOBi becomes taciturn on certain tracks, the fullness of the production, instruments and layered harmonies, convey what’s left unspoken.

TOBi on Panic: “Panic is the epitome of unapologetic soul music and we held nothing back, which I am truly proud of. From the stories of vulnerability, masculinity, personal family issues, social commentary, there was no stone left unturned here. I can’t wait for the world to consume it in full and I hope people appreciate the work and energy put in this because we aimed...

Jack of all trades and master of none Teezo Touchdown, whose gaudy style has already eclipsed his scant musical output, doesn’t want to be known as simply a rapper. He fancies himself a radical who doesn’t fit neatly into a predetermined categorical box. This is an artist who thought spitting verses over Panic at the Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” one of the most well-known pop-punk songs of the past decade, on 2019’s “100 Drums” was unique in an era where SoundCloud rappers frequently pay homage to such mid-2000s acts.
To be fair, there’s little to no actual rapping on Teezo’s major label debut, How Do You Sleep at Night? He positions himself as a modern-day pop star in the vein of Prince—as a soulful entertainer who can adopt R&b, pop, and rock sensibilities into his musical repertoire at what feels like the drop of a hat.

"We promise: loud stories, exceptional craft." Great pitch. This amusing short film is a clever promo for an animation studio called Panic, based out of Riga, Latvia, though they're taking on creative work worldwide. Berthold Gone Wild is a 3-minute infomerical short that explains the process of making animated shorts and what it's like to work with and develop a project with Panic. It covers everything from the first meeting + initial ideas, to the final delivery after it's all done. The intro: "Kick-off meeting. Script. Storyboard. Visual treatment. Voice-over. Audio design. Step by step and frame by frame, he reveals the endless freedom of motion, sound, and action only possible in the world of animation." Not only is it cool to get a look at their process, this video is also wildly imaginative and wacky. This Berthold guy is funky and that's the point, he should get your attention. I'm...

You never know who will join Chris Martin onstage at a Coldplay concert! During the group’s show in Zurich Sunday, tennis legend Roger Federer joined the band to play the shaker during “Don’t Panic.”
Martin welcomed the tennis star onstage as “our original band member,” jokingly referring to a percussionist who joined the band but left after three months at the beginning of the band’s career.
“The band is back together,” he quipped before they performed the opening track on the group’s 2000 album Parachutes.

Rick Astley teamed up with UK indie rock band Blossoms to perform a full set of The Smiths covers at Glastonbury on Saturday.
The 16-song set featured greatest hits like “This Charming Man,” “Big Mouth Strikes Again,” “Girlfriend in a Coma,” “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now,” “How Soon Is Now?” Watch fan captured footage and see the full setlist below.
Astley and Blossoms previously teamed up to cover The Smiths for a pair of shows in 2021. At the time, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr described the tribute shows as “both funny and horrible at the same time.”

If that’s not enough, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will helm the premiere episode!
About the series: “When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”

Director Sam Curtain ensures that a title like Beaten to Death delivers on what it promises with unrelenting violence and nihilism. Curtain’s bleak feature, co-written with Benjamin Jung-Clarke, puts its central character and the audience, by extension, through a gauntlet of torture, insanity, and desperation designed for maximum discomfort. Beaten to Death more than succeeds in its aim, making for an intense experience that’ll put you through the wringer.
Beaten to Death opens with Jack (Thomas Roach) getting pummeled to a near pulp by a much larger, angrier man (Justan Wagner) as a woman lays lifeless near the fray. Jack grabs a nearby bottle, breaks it, and violently gets the upper hand just in time to prevent his demise. Stranded in a rural area and devastated to discover his wife (Nicole Tudor) is indeed dead, Jack stumbles out to find help. However, Jack’s encounter with a neighbor,...

The ABC sitcom Modern Family wrapped up its 11 season run back in 2020, and now cast member Julie Bowen – who played the character Claire Dunphy on 250 episodes of the show – has signed on to star in a new series. And this one is no sitcom. Deadline reports that Bowen is set to star in the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria!, which is set up at the Peacock streaming service.
Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane, Hysteria! will be exploring America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic. The series follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity. Here’s the full official synopsis: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize...

Amazon is leaning further into the young adult genre.
The streamer and retail giant has handed out a series order for a drama series based on author E. Lockhart’s novel We Were Liars. The series, which was first put in development at Amazon in December, is being adapted by Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, who previously collaborated on The Originals and Roswell, New Mexico. Universal Television, where Plec and her My So-Called Company are based, is the studio.
“E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars is a gripping story centered on family, love, secrets, and lies that is perfect for our Prime Video audience,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television for Amazon Studios and MGM. “Lockhart, Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie are each brilliant at creating complex characters and we’re looking forward to teaming up with these incredible storytellers, along with Universal Television, to bring this show to life.

Austin, TX – Finding a way to my first film at the 2023 SXSW Film/TV Fest is a specific challenge, but after being shuttled to the famed Alamo Drafthouse, I found myself at the World Premiere of “Satan Wants You,” an amazing documentary about the “Satanic Panic” of the 1980s and ‘90s, directed by Sean Horlor and Steve J. Adams.
“Satan Wants You” tells the untold story of how the Satanic Panic of the 1980s was ignited by “Michelle Remembers,” a lurid memoir by psychiatrist Larry Pazder and his patient Michelle Smith. Supported by the Catholic Church, the bestselling book relied on recovered-memory therapy to uncover Michelle’s childhood abduction by baby-stealing Satanists. Amplified by law enforcement and America’s Daytime TV boom, satanic rumors spread through panic-stricken communities across the world, leaving a wave of destruction and wrongful convictions in their wake. This film digs deep into the roots of moral panics and cult conspiracies,...

Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest has made a familiar face, festival director Lisa Dreyer, the full-time overseer of the genre event’s creative direction and operations.
“I am unbelievably excited to continue my work as festival director, and expand Fantastic Fest’s footprint throughout the year” Dreyer said in a statement on news of her promotion. She joined Fantastic Fest last year as festival director on a freelance contract, and moving to full-time comes ahead of the 18th edition in Austin, Texas planned from Sept. 21 to 28, 2023.
The Alamo Drafthouse’s next gorefest will celebrate the 1980’s fascination with the occult, which spawned pop culture phenomenons like Freddy Krueger, heavy metal music and the Satanic Panic. Fantastic Fest, as it returns to the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar cinema for the 2023 edition, will also become a specialized competitive festival.
