Denzel Washington is easily one of the most admired and respected influences in the entertainment industry, with a presence that never ceases to catch the attention of the entire room he walks in. And yet, he was very well humbled when he came in the presence of the late legendary actor best known for playing James Bond: Sean Connery.

Interestingly enough, this happened at the Oscars, and the way Washington realized — even before the announcement of the results — that he had truly been defeated by the now-deceased actor on the biggest stage in Hollywood was through one simple act that was, perhaps, common for an actor as tremendously acclaimed as Connery: A 3-minute standing ovation!

Denzel Washington is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors who has graced the silver screen with many acclaimed performances to his credit. The actor has played heroic characters for most of his career in impressive films such as Mo’ Better Blues, Philadelphia, Courage Under Fire, and Glory winning an Oscar for the latter.
Denzel Washington as Easy Rawlins in Devil in a Blue Dress
His second Oscar win for Best Actor came with his antagonistic turn as Alonzo in Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day. Washington had never played a sleazy and morally complicated character like Alonzo before. However, he was vying to play one much before that film and one such antagonistic performance that he was envious of was of Don Cheadle in Devil in a Blue Dress.

C-span has tapped a long-time CNN journalist to serve as its next chief executive officer, the network confirmed this week.
Sam Feist recently held the role of bureau chief at CNN’s Washington office. He previously served as CNN’s political director and the vice president of the network’s programming. Feist starts at C-span in June, where he will assume the CEO role from departing co-chief executives Rob Kennedy and Susan Swain. Both held the co-ceo position for more than a decade.
“Our democracy needs C-span now more than ever,” Feist said in a statement. “I look forward to working with C-span’s extraordinary and dedicated team to expand the network’s reach and meet new audiences wherever they are.

A line of dialogue in The Fall Guy is already causing discourse among some viewers, prior to it opening in theaters.
In the David Leitch-directed action-comedy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham’s character, Gail Meyer, at one point makes a reference to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s turbulent relationship.
In the scene, Waddingham, who plays an executive producer in the movie, reportedly walks into a trailer while looking disheveled and tells director Jody Moreno (Blunt), “It’s like Amber and Johnny were just in here.”
Some viewers have since taken to social media to criticize the line, with one user writing on X (formerly Twitter), “‘The Fall Guy’ made a distasteful “joke” about the domestic abuse amber suffered at the hands of johnny. it’s 2024, why are we writing these kinds of lines into movies? nasty work.”

There was something fitting about the setting.
Paramount Pictures unveiled the first trailer from “Gladiator II” on the stage of The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, a Las Vegas hotel that reimagines Ancient Rome in all its decadent splendor, albeit with a few more slot machines. Director Ridley Scott seems to be offering a bloodier version of that distant age, one that finds Paul Mescal entering the arena as a nobleman who has renounced his privilege and finds himself in a life-and-death struggle for the amusement of the Roman people.
Based on the footage that Scott brought to Sin City to share with cinema owners, “Gladiator 2” recaptures the first film’s epic sprawl and shattering action sequences. The teaser saw Mescal face off against a charging rhino, a horde of vicious baboons, and Pedro Pascal, among other threats to his chiseled physique. Joshua “Bam Bam” Brown is not as active on social media as his younger brother, Bear Brown, but he does answer questions. Recently, the Alaskan Bush People star confirmed where the Brown family lives in 2024. While some people like Bear and Raiven considered moving back to Alaska, that hasn’t happened yet. Read on to find out what Ami’s second oldest child revealed.
Abp Joshua ‘Bam Bam’ Brown & Matt Distanced Themselves
Matt Brown might not have been included in what the Discovery star revealed a few days ago. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s still a lot of bad blood between him and Bear. However, he currently lives in Washington where he works with some nice friends who support his sobriety journey. But, he’s not necessarily close to the family. Sometimes, he talks about getting out in the mountains. Meanwhile, Bam Bam and Allison Kagan disappeared from the Discovery show for a bit.

Netflix’s true crime docuseries Files of the Unexplained episode 3, “The Yuba County Five,” focuses on Ted Weiher, Gary Mathias, Bill Sterling, Jack “Doc” Madruga, and Jackie Huett, a group of friends who went missing in 1978. The episode is gripping, sad, and at times infuriating. Because each episode of the eight real-life cases covered runs in an hour’s slot, some stories had to be edited out. Drew Hurst Beeson’s Out of Bounds: What happened to the Yuba County 5 is an excellent resource for those missing details.

During the pandemic, most of us apparently watched Chris Hemsworth's actioner "Extraction" more than anything else, with the 2020 film becoming the most popular Netflix original movie at the time. But I remember being much more excited for "The Little Things."
This neo-noir crime thriller from writer-director John Lee Hancock seemed to have it all — especially if you happened to be a '90s kid with fond memories of "Seven." The trailer for "The Little Things" promised Denzel Washington in full jaded cop mode as Kern County Sheriff's Office deputy Joe Deacon, tracking down a serial killer in early-'90s Los Angeles with the help of a much younger, idealistic L.A. cop in the form of Rami Malek's James Baxter. It might have sounded a tad formulaic, but I'll take any noir-tinged thriller promising to give us a peek under California's carapace and reveal the seedy underworld therein.

Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Moss will star in a limited series adaptation of the Araminta Hall novel “Imperfect Women” at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
Annie Weisman will adapt the book for the screen. Weisman previously created the Apple dramedy series “Physical” starring Rose Byrne, which aired for three seasons at the streamer.
“Imperfect Women” is described as an “unconventional, psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women. ‘Imperfect Women’ is a mystery complicated by perspective that explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably. As the investigation unravels, so does the truth about how even the closest relationships can change over time.”

A new Spike Lee Joint is in the works that will reunite the director with Denzel Washington. Apple Original Films is partnering with A24 on “High and Low,” an English-language adaptation of the 1963 Akira Kurosawa crime film of the same name.

Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are reuniting for High and Low, a thriller that has landed at Apple Original Films.
The feature is a partnership between Apple and A24, with the latter to release the High and Low theatrically before a global launch on Apple TV+.
Written by Alan Fox and Lee, the project is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller High and Low. The 1963 Japanese movie told of a shoe executive that was in the middle of a complex corporate takeover when his plans are derailed by the accidental kidnapping and ransom of his chauffeur’s son, instead of his own son.
The thriller is due to begin production in March with Lee in the director’s chair and Washington starring. It will be the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington. Their most recent was the 2006 critical and box office hit, Inside Man. Their other movies include Mo’ Better Blues,...

While the horror film Jennifer’s Body was met by a lukewarm reception when it was first released in 2009, it has undergone a renaissance of sorts in recent years. People have realized that behind the inaccurate marketing of the movie lies a campy, yet powerful, story about two teenage girls whose relationship is forever changed by a group of young men seeking power. There are a few things, like certain lines of dialogue, that haven’t necessarily aged well in the 15 years since the film’s release, but overall the movie has been reclaimed as a queer horror classic.
Alongside people giving Jennifer’s Body another chance are those also seeking to give one of the film’s stars, Megan Fox, her long overdue flowers. Not just for her performance in this movie, but also to try and make up for all of the unjust hate and sexism hurled her way around the time the film premiered.

While Joni Mitchell was working on her groundbreaking album Court and Spark in 1973, a drunken John Lennon stumbled into the studio. He was working on Rock ‘n’ Roll, an album fueled by drugs, alcohol, and violence. When he visited Mitchell, he tried to give her advice on her album. She shared what she thought of his remarks.
John Lennon tried to give Joni Mitchell advice on how to write a hit
In 1973, Mitchell and Lennon were recording albums next to each other. After a few drinks, Lennon decided to see how Mitchell’s recording session for Court and Spark was going.
“I played him something,” Mitchell told Mojo (via her official website). “[He said] ‘Oh, it’s all a product of over education. You want a hit, don’t you? Put some fiddles on it!'”
Despite Lennon’s belief that the album would not be a hit, it became her most successful album.

One person who won’t be attendance when Doug Liman’s “Road House” opens this year’s SXSW Film Festival? Doug Liman. In a revealing new guest column for Deadline, director Liman shared that he is going to “silently protest” the fact that his “Road House” will not be in theaters. Liman’s choice is based on his unhappiness over Amazon MGM Studios’ decision to release the film solely on streaming platform Prime Video, foregoing a theatrical window.
A remake of the iconic 1989 film, Liman writes that “Road House” is “so clearly made for the big screen” and “maybe [his] best film.” He continues, “But Amazon is hurting way more than just me and my film. If I don’t speak up about Amazon, who will?”
Liman also details the negotiations that went into the film’s release. “When Amazon bought MGM, one of the few remaining studios making big commercial...

Kerry Washington joined the Variety Studio presented by Audible at the Sundance Film Festival, where she is an executive producer on the documentary “Daughters.” The movie centers on four girls in Washington D.C. as they prepare for a Daddy Daughter Dance with their incarcerated fathers.
“People always ask me why I’m drawn to political work,” Washington said about boarding the documentary. “I’m not drawn to political work. It’s just I am a woman and I am a Black person. In this body, when I center stories about me or stories that star people that look like me, it’s considered political because the world wants to push us out into the margins and we all deserve to be at the center of our lives.”

Mother’s Instinct trailer: Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain thriller is a remake of 2018 Belgian film
Mothers’ Instinct, a remake of the 2018 Belgian film Duelles, went into production back in May of 2022, with Academy Award winners Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) and Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) – who also happen to be close friends in their personal lives – in the lead roles. Once filming had wrapped, Hathaway revealed that her role in the film was the hardest she had ever played, as it tapped into her own worst fear. Unfortunately, a release date for Mothers’ Instinct still hasn’t been announced, but that information must be coming down the line soon, because Studiocanal UK has gone ahead and released a trailer for the film. You can check that out in the embed above, and a newly unveiled poster can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Ryan Gosling is one of the biggest contenders for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s smash hit “Barbie.” The Warner Bros. movie follows Margot Robbie‘s titular Barbie as she leaves Barbie Land for the real world in search of answers after suffering an existential crisis. Gosling’s performance as Ken has brought him plenty of plaudits, leading to a strong case for Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Oscars race.
However, this isn’t the first Oscars race Gosling has been in as he’s received two Academy Award nominations before. Let’s take a look back at them.
Gosling was first nominated in 2007 when he received a Best Actor notice for “Half Nelson,” which follows Gosling as a junior high school teacher with a drug habit. Gosling’s teacher forms a friendship with one of his students...

I’m serious, I’m not just trying to placate you I swear, but I don’t know what else to do because we, men, have run the show since what, 10,000 BC, and we’re not doing so good.

Witnessing historical moments come to life on the silver screen has always been an extraordinary experience. The concluding moments of Rustin successfully capture that essence by recreating those iconic moments of 1963’s March on Washington. Directed by George C. Wolfe, Rustin is a biographical drama based on an important figure in the American civil rights movement named Bayard Rustin. When mentioning human rights, non-violent movements, and freedom in history, we often mention the names of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, but we tend to overlook the significance of Bayard Rustin; without him, such path-breaking historical events as the March on Washington might not have been possible.

Denzel Washington is reteaming with director Antoine Fuqua and is set to star in an untitled Hannibal biopic at Netflix, the streamer announced Monday.
Following the Carthaginian general’s historic conquests, the Roman wartime epic also comes from “Gladiator” scribe John Logan.
Hannibal was a brilliant Carthaginian general who led his army, including fearsome war elephants, over the Alps into Italy during the Second Punic War against Rome in the 3rd Century B.C.
The official logline from Netflix said the project is “based on real-life warrior Hannibal, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest military commanders in history.” The streamer added that “the film covers the pivotal battles he led against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War.”
Washington and Fuqua will also produce the project along with Erik Olsen and Adam Goldworm. Jeremy Lott and Frank Moll are attached as executive producers.

Exclusive: Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is ending, why not come out with elephant-sized ambition? Netflix has attached Denzel Washington to play the ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal in an untitled epic drama that will reteam him with Antoine Fuqua for Netflix. That reunites back star and director who first teamed on 2001’s Training Day — Washington won the Oscar for that turn — and they most recently made the third installment of the Equalizer franchise.
John Logan, the three-time Oscar-nominated The Aviator and Hugo scribe who knows his way around a sword-and-scandal saga with Gladiator, is writing the script. Fuqua, Washington, Erik Olsen and Adam Goldworm will produce. Jeremy Lott and Frank Rodriguez Moll exec produce.
For Washington, the development brings back a project that he wanted to star in more than 20 years ago, but Fox wanted to make it at a time when Washington didn’t want to be away from...

Sorry ABC, CBS and CNN, there’s a new player in the political primary debate fray.
NewsNation, the upstart cable news channel owned by local TV giant Nexstar, will host the fourth Republican primary debate next month.
The debate, which will also air on the Nexstar-owned CW network, will be moderated by NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas, as well as SiriusXM host (and former Fox News primetime star) Megyn Kelly, as well as The Washington Free Beacon’s Eliana Johnson.
The debate will be held Dec. 6 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and will also stream on NewsNation’s website, the conservative video platform Rumble, and on SiriusXM.
The debate is a coup for Nexstar, which has been trying to grow NewsNation as an “unbiased” alternative to the other cable news channels. It’s also a big win for Vargas, the former ABC News anchor who joined NewsNation earlier this year, and for Kelly,...
