According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Crow remake producer Ed Pressman (Wallstreet, American Psycho) has stated that all of the legal issues surrounding the remake appear to be settled and that the production is aiming to begin filming next Spring. Pressman was further quoted as stating that "The Crow" is the "anti-Spider-Man" and that, "It still has a big fan base even though it was so long ago. But the generation today doesn’t even know 'The Crow'." It's been over 12 years "The Ring" literally scared people to death via videotape. A sequel to the hit horror movie followed a couple years after, but a long-awaited third movie has been stuck in limbo all this time.
But now, there's finally some forward movement! Variety reports that Paramount has hired F. Javier Gutiérrez to direct "The Ring 3." Gutiérrez earned acclaim for his film "Tres Días" ("Before the Fall") and has been attached to the reboot of "The Crow."
The highly successful "Ring" franchise, which has generated over $400 million worldwide, began in 2002 with the original movie starring Naomi Watts. In that movie and the 2005 sequel, people who watched a mysterious videotape died a week later.
But now that it's nearly a decade after the sequel came out, videotapes feel like ancient technology. Maybe in "The Ring 3," everyone will have to watch out for a scary Blu-ray disc.

Although the recent report on the 28 Weeks Later’s person in charge Juan Carlos Fresnadillo might create The Crow reboot, Fangoria latest news about that is another Spanish director F. Javier Gutiérrez who would be responsible for conducting.
Gutiérrez was writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Before the Fall (‘Tres Días”), of the family to survive the end of the world. Despite the fact of Gutiérrez’s not too long resume ( + two short films), he still impressed enough to shoot “The Crow” reboot, according to Fangora source. Gutiérrez is director in perspective with multiple movies in development including House of Horror, a film he is making under Insidious and Saw creator James Wan.
As you know “The Crow” is a 1994 thriller based on the 1989 comic book of the same name by James O’Barr. And during the last weeks of production, Brandon Lee was mortally wounded by a dummy bullet.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) was rumored to be taking over The Crow remake. Fangoria is reporting that another Spanish filmmaker is actually in line to helm the reboot from Relativity Media.
That other director is F. Javier Gutiérrez and he's “in talks” to direct the project. He previously directed the sci-fi thriller Before The Fall (a.k.a. Tres DÍAS) from IFC.
There have been a slew of directors attached to the new adaptation of J. O’Barr’s comic, including Stephen Norrington (Blade), but progress on the production has been slow. If Gutiérrez takes the helm, it is one of several projects on his slate. He’s already directing House of Horror for James Wan, the first film in the latter’s eight-picture deal with Icon Entertainment, and also has The Greys and Monkey's Paw lined up.
It is still early, so check back for more news on this topic.

Just last week it was revealed that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later director) would possibly be directing remake of The Crow. But now, it has been reported that F. Javier Gutiérrez would be taking that responsibility. Fango has learned that another Spanish filmmaker is actually in line to helm the reboot from Relativity Media. The other director “in talks” to put The Crow into flight again is F. Javier Gutiérrez (pictured), director of the sci-fi serial-killer thriller Before The Fall (a.k.a. Tres DÍAS), which IFC released here. A number of directors have been attached to the new adaptation of J. O’Barr’s comic, including Blade’s Stephen Norrington, but progress on the production has been slow. If Gutiérrez takes the Crow plunge, that’s just one of several projects the Spaniard is currently juggling. But at the moment, I would only take this as a rumor as...

Creative comings and goings in pre-production are perfectly normal, so maybe it's just the constant reporting that's making it seem as if the remake of The Crow is struggling to take flight. Mark Wahlberg passed on playing the vengeful resurrected zombie rock star, and Stephen Norrington walked as director after some "creative differences" with the producers. Now though, The Crow may have a new director, in 28 Weeks Later's Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.Fresnadillo is in the market for a next gig, since he's just about to complete work on Intruders, his horror thriller starring Clive Owen, Carice van Houten and Daniel Bruhl. The director of the really-rather-good 28 Days Later follow-up has already taken some meetings with current Crow honchos Relativity Media. He's not the only director in the frame though, since Relativity are also talking to Javier Gutiérrez, who made the 2008 Spanish sci-fi thriller Before the Fall, and is currently preparing House of Horror,...

And with that question we also have the only synopsis we're going to get for a while according to The Playlist who discovered news of this project embedded in an interview in British paper, The Guardian. Ferrara doesn't really have a good handle on when the film will get off the ground exactly, but we hope it's soon.
Of course this idea has been done before in Don McKellar's Last Night and more recently in the great Spanish film, Before the Fall, but we're definitely interested to see what the mind behind Driller Killer and Bad Lieutenant comes up with.

MADRID -- The 11th Malaga Film Festival's official competition will feature a hefty dose of directorial debuts mixed with veteran directors, true to its vocation as Spanish talent's main showcase.
Manuel Gutierrez-Aragon's controversial Todos estamos invitados about an ETA terrorist suffering from amnesia will open the official competition, organizers said as they revealed the 15 films in the official lineup Tuesday.
Other hot titles in competition include Javier Gutierrez's sci-fi thriller Before the Fall, produced by Antonio Banderas' Green Moon Prod. and the directorial debut of the 81-year-old, accomplished literary and theatrical veteran Jaime de Arminan, 14, Fabian Road, focusing on a complex relationship between a writer and one of her admirers.
Belen Rueda (The Orphanage) stars in Rodrigo Sorogoyen's 8 Dates, chronicling a relationship's different stages, while Xavier Bermudez's Rafael traces the emptiness of a womanizer.
Headline-inspired plots include Ana Diez's Paisito, about immigrants' lives and loves upon reunion, Xavi Puebla's Bienvenido a Farewell-Gutmann, using a multinational pharmaceutical company as a backdrop and Juan Cruz and Jose Corbacho's follow-up to the successful Tapas -- Cowards, about high school bullying.

BERLIN -- "What would you do if you knew that mankind has only three days left before extinction?" asks this awkward low-budget sci-fi movie from director F. Javier Gutierrez. Before the Fall will not receive the same international attention given to recent Spanish thrillers and horror films. More likely it will be confined to domestic market.
As an asteroid heads to Earth, all means to destroy or divert it have failed. There is no chance for mankind to survive after the impact in 72 hours.
Rosa and her son Ale, inhabitants of a small village in Laguna, are struck by other news: convicts have escaped from jail, and among them a criminal likely to go after Rosa's family. Rosa and Ale travel to a remote farm where Rosa's brother lives with his children. The children, who seem to be left alone, haven't heard of the approaching apocalypse.
The film strangely shifts from the sci-fi dimension it has established (with some efficiency, in spite of very low-budget means) to an ordinary revenge story. Quite absurdly, none of the characters seems to mind that the world is coming to an end: The criminal wants to kill and the victims try to survive.
This lack of coherence doesn't seem to bother the director, who accumulates in the last 30 minutes repellent sequences involving child molesting and killing.

MADRID -- Antonio Banderas' Spain-based production house Green Moon Producciones said Wednesday it is setting up a new label to focus on fresh talent from southern Spain's Andalucia region.
Nuevas Cineastas Andaluzes, which translates to New Andalucian Filmmakers, will be known by its acronym NCA and will focus on new directors, scriptwriters, art directors, directors of photography and other professionals from southern Spain, according to Green Moon executive producer Antonio Meliveo.
"We're launching the new brand because we believe in the talent from our region," Meliveo said. "We're looking to promote fresh filmmakers from our Andalucia."
NCA will look to produce one film per year.
The first film to fall under the new category will be the co-production with Seville-based Maestranza: Javier Gutierrez's El verano de la roca, which is also the first project to roll under the two company's production alliance signed in February.
The $2 million Verano is set to start shooting at the end of the month and will star Eduard Fernandez and Victor Clavijo.
