Did you know
- TriviaThis was the last "Highway Patrol" episode for which Vernon E. Clark served as the Executive in Charge of Production. The production of the remaining 78 episodes would be overseen and occasionally directed by Jack Herzberg. In a 1994 interview, Frank Runyon (who served as the show's technical adviser on behalf of the California Highway Patrol) stated that he had been told that the change was made inasmuch as Jack Herzberg seemed better able to cope with the occasional challenges inherent in working on a daily basis with series star Broderick Crawford.
- GoofsWhen Matthews meets up with the patrolman on the road, as he drives away and backs up, there are visible camera shadows and people moving around.
- Quotes
Dan Mathews: [to Dr. Elliott] Let's go to Frenchman's Camp!
Snack stand operator: Say, if you're plannin' to run a race up that road, I'd forget it.
Dan Mathews: No, I don't think you would, lady. Not this race, anyway. Thanks.

A Really Decent Episode
I watch a lot of MeTV and other nostalgia channels. Of the series from the 50s, Highway Patrol might be my favorite. "Rabies" is actually pretty realistic, probably because it does not involve bad guys who can't shoot, and who seem reluctant to put much effort into outdriving Broderick Crawford in a car chase. In "Rabies" a little girl is bitten by what turned out to be a rabid dog, and the search is on to find her, and inoculate her before it's too late. The trick is to find her as she is on a driving vacation with her mother.
As a silly point of interest and amusement, I count how many times car doors are closed in Highway Patrol episodes. One episode had 51 door closings. It's the kind of thing you notice when your life consists of watching Highway Patrol episodes, not to mention writing never-to-be- read critiques about them on the internet.
