Joel McHale’s ‘The It Crowd,’ Scott Baio’s ‘Rewind,’ and More TV Cancellations Before Their Premiere
A&E was forced to pull its series “Escaping the Kkk” (formerly known as “Generation Kkk”) after the network discovered that some of the documentary’s subjects had been paid to participate. From Scott Baio in “Rewind” to NBC’s failed “Coach” reboot, here are 30 shows from the past 20 years that were announced, produced… and then dumped.

I’ve made a huge, tiny mistake: I agreed to recap All of Netflix’s 15 new Arrested Development episodes, right away, in One blog post! What a fun, sexy time for me! ‘Huzzah!’
My plan is to start Sunday right at 3 a.m. Et — I’ll get three or four up, try to sleep, though yeah right, and start back up again around 1 p.m. Et. It’s going to take everything in my power not to keep pressing Rewind (like anyone would want to R her) to absorb every joke, screengrab, etc. There will be things I miss, but...

Major Crimes wraps its first season tonight.

Bryan Fuller says that Mockingbird Lane still could become a series depending on how well the Halloween special does. Fuller says that NBC's issue was whether the series could appeal to a broad audience, and if enough people tune in for the special, the network would reconsider. I'm still hoping Mockingbird Lane can pull a Nightingales, only without removing all the interesting parts of the pilot when becoming a series.
I'm fascinated with TV shows that get cancelled without airing an episode, whether that be the train wrecks that look so bad the network rethinks its decision over the summer, like the Scott Baio comedy Rewind, or shows that left to wither unaired over the season like Still Life. Now the Dane Cook comedy Next Caller can join those ranks. Considering how awful Next Caller looked, I'm relieved.

The final trends covered in this brief overview of this year’s pilot season are the new bout of network sitcoms and also the new cable shows that are fighting their way onto your screens.
Sitcoms appear to be following the trend of success stories like Modern Family and New Girl and becoming more single-camera based than traditional multi-camera. Multi-camera sitcoms being the shows recorded in front of audiences on sets a la Friends and Seinfeld, whilst single camera sitcoms are the ones that are shot more like films with plenty of different locations a la Parks and Recreation and Community. This trend doesn’t seem to apply, however, if you’re CBS, the network appears to be enjoying a renaissance of multi-camera sitcoms with the successes of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory which were both picked up for multiple seasons earlier this year.
