Makes an emotive subject funny
Homer buys a handgun to protect the family.
This is a classic episode with great humour.
The Cartridge Family is packed with great comedy dialogue and amazing sight gags that are perfectly timed. Homer telling Marge to close her eyes for a surprise and Millhouse with the apple in his mouth are two crackers. This is one of the best uses of Homer by the writers as virtually everything he says and does is hilarious to me.
I come from a country where gun laws are very strict and from my perspective writers take a balanced approach to the pros and cons of owning a gun. Whatever your feelings on this emotive subject The Simpsons make light of it very effectively here.
For me it's a 9.5/10, but I round upwards.
