Gertrude Berg was a very important television celebrity in the 1950s and into the 60s. Her shows "The Goldbergs" and "The Gertrude Berg Show" were hits and despite her not being glamorous, Gertrude quite the success. Here she is starring on this installment of the "US Steel Hour" and she plays Rose, a widow who is having trouble letting go.

The story begins with Simon (David Opatoshu) proposing to his longtime friend, Rose. It seems that Rose's husband (also Simon's best friend) died a year ago and he thinks it's time she gets on with her life. But she refuses his offer. Later, she receives a phone call from her dead husband....and he indicated he'd call each Sunday at 6pm and they'd chat. Months pass and Rose is quite happy with her life now. But when folks find out WHY she's so happy, they assume she's lost her mind. Is it real or isn't it? And, does it really matter?

This is a very touching and well acted show. It was interesting to see Opatoshu wearing white in his hair to appear to be older. Overall, one of the more solid installments of the show I've seen....and one that will leave you wondering exactly what DID happen!
