"A Visit from Lena Horne" was, not surprisingly, the favorite episode of Redd Foxx, his frequent mention of 'The Horne' and her signature song "Stormy Weather" a longtime staple of the series. Touring the NBC studios with Lamont, Fred becomes excited to learn that Lena Horne is somewhere in the building, searching until he finds himself alone in her dressing room. He naturally goes into heart attack mode when she walks in on him, receiving an autograph and a promise to visit his invalid son, 'little lame Lamont,' on her way to the airport. This is enough for Fred to bet all of his buddies at the pool hall $15 apiece to make a tidy profit at the expense of Lena's generosity. Once she finds out about the bet she goes off on Fred, until he offers her the money for her charity, and earns a big wet one on the lips. The funniest moment comes when the disbelieving Lamont lays eyes on Lena, and promptly suffers his first heart attack: "it's the big one, you hear that Mom? Your little boy's comin' to join you, with a mustache!" While John Amos as Luther and Art Matthews as Art never appeared again, Billy Allyn as Billy would pop up twice more in "The Big Party" and "Fred Sanford, Legal Eagle," the comedy duo of 'Slick Skillet' Mayhand and 'Lucky Leroy' Daniels teaming for another four episodes.
