The Dull Writing Is Killing This Season
kgraovac2 November 2023
Jan's ex-husband Lloyd comes to town and wants to be more involved in daughter Ellen's life. We don't see Ellen in this episode but I wish we had. I like that Ellen always seemed like she was medicated and didn't really want to be there.

Dot is seen bringing another critter to work - just three episodes ago it was a mouse - this time she's brought a fifteen-year-old dog with her because they are co-starring in a commercial. The dog dies in the bathroom, so she gets a replacement but it proves untrainable. These kinds of B-plots are so lame. I feel bad that Gail Edwards got saddled with so many of them. The irony is, in the Season 1 episode "Super Mom "where Dot had the B-story about losing Nancy's pin, most of the footage was cut in syndication and the scenes were actually quite funny.

Jan and Lloyd begin seeing each other and eventually spend a night together. She thinks this means they have a chance at reconciliation, but Lloyd isn't ready for that. So, he ends up walking out of her life - again.

This is a total Jan episode, but pales terribly to the spotlight Jan episodes of Season 1. Watching her and Lloyd coo over each other makes for a boring episode. The writers seem to be crafting more romantic stories so far this season, but there is not enough comedy to balance everything out. Maggie and Jan share a nice scene when they are reminiscing about their once happy marriages. But it is nowhere near as strong as the serious Girl Talk scenes Jan shared with Lois last season.

This is the first appearance of dishwasher Frankie - he will only have a small part this season.

A rather boring Season 2 episode. If the network told the writers to cut down on the lounge scenes with all the talk about sex and men, they made a huge mistake.
