- TriviaForrest Tucker, as Sgt. Holly, appears to be wearing the same hat he used as Sgt. O'Rourke in the comedy series "F Troop." His character is also quite similar in being a scheming to make a fast buck US Cavalry sergeant.

Listening to Sgt. Holly talk is a cross between Yosemite Sam and Foghorn Leghorn
Sgt. Holly is a vivacious man, a career military NCO, hard drinking, loud talking buffoon, but to his credit, he's got excellent tastes in women, namely... Kitty Russell, of course. This was more of a comedy of errors as opposed to a drama, and on par for the writing of the latter seasons of Gunsmoke, that's to say horribly written. The highlights of the episode where when Sgt. Holly referred to Marshall Matthew Dillon as, "Big Fist", and "Big Chin", which more episodes would have benefited from. If CBS had given up on Gunsmoke, and to judge by the writing, they had, they should have passed it on to somewhere else that would have invested in better writing, they really hurt the legacy of the series with their terrible cast of writers. 2/10, just for the Big Fist and Big Chin lines directed at Matt.
