- Quotes
Buzz Ryan: [on phone] Listen, Jo, I got a problem. I could really use your help. You see, I need a date for this formal military dance.
Jo Polniaczek: Military dance? You gotta be kidding! No way! I'm not going to one of those things.
Buzz Ryan: No, I don't mean you, Jo. I need somebody classy.
Jo Polniaczek: You're *smart* to do this over the phone.
Buzz Ryan: It's gotta be one of your rich and famous Candice Bergen types.
Jo Polniaczek: [just then, Blair comes walking past] I could probably lay my hands on one.

A cute idea for a male version of FACTS OF LIFE
I refer to this episode and THE BIG FIGHT as " The John P. Navin Jr. Episodes". Navin was a funny teen actor who was in a lot of TV shows and movies back at this time. He was in the hit movie NATIONAL LAMPOONS VACATION and the TV show JENNIFER SLEPT HERE. He had a realistic Boy Next Door charm.
In this episode Jo gets a call from her friend Buzz who is played by Jimmy Baio, another fine young actor from the TV show SOAP . He needs an impressive date for a school dance at his Military Academy. Jo agrees to set him up with Blaire and Buzz invites Jo and the other girls promising to find them dates too.
And wow does he do a good job! These guys are cute! And they make for good counter-parts to the FACTS OF LIFE girls. You could imagine all these teenagers actually dating eachother. They all have really good chemistry. One of the gags here is Natalie's date is a few years younger than her. But Natalie has a good sense of humor and so does he, so even that makes for a good match.
This was an episode that was a potential spin off idea for the boys. It did not happen. There is actually another episode called THE BIG FIGHT where the girls see these boys again and that episode is another favorite of mine. I would have loved for the boys to have gotten their own show the girls could have made appearances on. I think it would have been fun . But alas ..... it was not meant to be.
