Works Well Enough
remember the trailer for an ITV crime series from a few years ago where a character is introduced with the voice over saying " he's a successful businessman " and the on screen captions reading " He's a drug dealer " with other characters getting the same treatment , ie The voice-over says " He's a policeman " while the captions read " He's a corrupt cop " . I wonder if this had any type of influence on FIRST TIME BUYER ?
Possibly not because estate agents have a reputation like politicians for saying one thing when they mean something entirely different and this is the central idea for FIRST TIME BUYER . We listen to the estate agent rattle off what a good place his property is while a caption below reads " Too good to be true " . The voice says " You're only a five minute walk from the shops while a caption contradicts this with " One mile , two mile , three mile " , the voice says " a clean residential area while we see animated cockroaches clambered around the screen . The whole concept is very obvious and unsubtle but touches a button and while the animation may not be great that's not really a failing since the satire and observation are the most important things
