Netflix certainly has their fingers in a lot of interesting pots. The past few years has seen them absolutely dominate the television series front. With original series like House of Cards, and Marvel productions like Luke Cage, they’ve proven that they can bring as riveting of dramas to the small screen as both standard networks and pay cable channels. With that territory now claimed, and their flag in the ground, they’ve also been hard at work at feature films.
Thus far, the success on that one has been less than their TV stuff, with films like War Machine having more of a mixed reception than they’d hope for. What’s more, they’re still working at getting their work noticed by the Oscars. But don’t think that Netflix is only interested in the awards, they’re also interested in more niche genre films like the upcoming Death Note.

It's a risk letting anyone see how the superhero sausage is made, but that's exactly what Marvel Studios did when they opened the doors of their offices to a pack of reporters on Monday night for an Open House. The itinerary for the event was shrouded in secrecy — Marvel's usual M.O. when it comes to anything connected to their Cinematic Universe — so each room on the tour contained some new surprise, unfolding like a game of Clue where the players are mostly actors named Chris.

If you look up “unlikeliest franchises” in the dictionary, well, you’re a fool, because that’s not how dictionaries work. But if they did, and if you did, the picture you’d see staring back at you from what has now become a picture dictionary of some sort would probably be of Vin Diesel grimacing behind the wheel of a car while flaming semi-trucks do wheelies out his back window. Sharon got a well-deserved promotion after a bomber nearly killed everyone in the unit, while Rusty seemed to let go of Gus.
And Flynn jumped into action and proved that he will do pretty much anything to defend Sharon!
As season finales go, Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 21 was fairly exciting. I definitely will want to tune in when it returns, though I found some aspects of the conclusion confusing.
The first half of "Shockwave: Part 2" involved an extensive manhunt for suspected bomber Christian Ortiz.
I didn't expect the twist that he'd actually been innocent of murder until he decided to start bombing people to protest having been locked up unfairly.
Flynn: He doesn't just want to screw his ex-wife. He wants to screw the entire Lapd the way he feels we screwed him.
Buzz: I know the justice system isn't always perfect, but if he'd just given us a chance.

Bad guys go on the rampage in this stylish and excessively gory iteration of the action genre
This Indonesian action film unfolds a story as old as time, or at least as old as film noir, in which a bad man (the undeniably charismatic Iko Uwais) experiences a trauma so severe (shot in the head, thrown into the sea) he wakes up with amnesia and somehow a completely different personality (which seems unlikely from a neurological point of view). Nerdy-cute medic Ailin (Chelsea Islan) nurses him back to health in the hospital and names him Ishmael after the narrator of Moby-Dick, which she happens to be reading at the time.
The film-making owes far less to any literary antecedents than it does to the kind of ultra-violent, stylish action films made in Hong Kong and Korea. As such, it’s a very good iteration of the genre, with moody lighting,...

Peter Quinn's been through the wringer, but nothing can keep this badass spy down!
Take a trip down Homeland's memory lane to revisit some of our favorite, heartthrob assassin's coolest moments.
1. Bad Cop or Just Batsh*t Crazy? We knew we were going to like this new guy Quinn when he drove a knife through a blubbering Brody's hand. Finally, a match for Carrie in the crazy department. And a looker, too! 2. A Guy Who Kills Bad Guys He may be an assassin, but he's no tool. Peter Quinn is not above defying orders (and threatening the boss) if he doesn't believe in the mission, especially where protecting Carrie is concerned. Is our favorite killer developing a killer crush? Aw. 3. World's Sexiest Bomb Maker Quinn loves making bombs. If the weather is hot enough, he prefers working shirtless. Bless. 4. Hot Biker Spy Hello?! Quinn on a motorcycle? It doesn't get any better than this.

I have wonderful Yuletide memories. Like every young boy, I quickly learned that the true meaning of the Holiday Season was… getting more stuff. And being the greedy little monster I was, (and, I guess, I remain) I also learned that I could extend that wonderful feeling of “Christmas Acquisition” through books. More than a toy, or apparel or certainly candy, the enjoyment of a book would linger well past the twelve days of Christmas.

Here's the third futile attempt by director Ron Howard to turn the bestselling claptrap of author Dan Brown into something watchable. He comes close, but not close enough. This time Robert Langdon, the Harvard symbologist played as if against his will by Tom Hanks, suffers from retrograde amnesia. Lucky guy – I can remember all too well how the film's plodding predecessors, The Da Vinci Code (2006) and Angels & Demons (2009), stubbornly refused to come to life. While critics might be divided on Paul Schrader‘s “Dog Eat Dog,” one thing is clear — it’s a movie told without compromise. Vicious and violent, the legendary screenwriter and director doesn’t know a boundary of good taste or decorum that he doesn’t cross in the picture, and for certain audiences, that means an enjoyably wild ride, especially when you have Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe leading the charge.

From Captain America: Civil War through to Ghostbusters, what did we learn from summer blockbuster season 2016?
If it wasn’t for summer blockbuster season it would be a nightmare for Den of Geek to maintain our chic pale complexions. We’ve seen so many films this summer that we look like porcelain dolls (the shine comes from popcorn grease).
It was never our intention to learn anything other than imperative information about Jason Bourne’s backstory. None the less, 2016 had proven to be such an interesting year for cinema that we couldn’t help but be struck by the following observations.
A quick note before we dig in. We’re counting summer blockbuster season as March to the end of August. We know that’s not how seasons work, but that feels like a tidy set of dates to use to capture the films that are part of the mid-year blockbuster flurry.

Bad guys usually get a bad wrap. Can you really blame them? They are always blowing up cities or threatening to take over the world or opening up a giant portal into the sky. Luckily for us the critics are there to save us from those nasty bad guys! Wait, that doesn't sound all that right...but what could explain the critics' ire towards David Ayer's latest film, Suicide Squad? There's some kind of foul sorcery afoot! At least we got an interesting movie out of it starring Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Diablo, Enchantress, Katana, Killer Croc, Rick Flag, and Dr. Doom after he's been left in another dimension and fuses with a plastic bag! Hmm...still doesn't sound right. Joker though! Joker! Ahem. Of course we here at SuperheroStuff are celebrating our normal way by sacrificing a Thangarian Phase Beast to an effigy of Zack Snyder in hopes that...

On August 1, the Suicide Squad movie premieres in NYC and I’ll be there. I’ve watched the trailers and the hype and, I must say, I’m hyped up. From everything I can see, David Ayer (the writer/director) and the cast have read my work on the Squad comic and are using it. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller especially seems pulled from what I did and for me personally that’s very exciting.
I don’t expect the film to be a direct translation of the comic; this is a different medium and has different needs. I love my fans a lot but there’s not enough of them to fill a single theater for a week. The movie has to appeal to those who never heard of the comic. However, in its DNA, this is the Squad I created. At its core is the concept of The Dirty Dozen with supervillains.

When The New Yorker's critic Pauline Kael was reviewing the screen adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's The Fox, she insisted: "If you are going to see a movie based on a book you think is worth reading, read the book first. You can never read the book with the same imaginative responsiveness to the author once you have seen the movie."
This is tripplely true with any offering from Steven Spielberg. In fact, whether it's a tale for children or a Holocaust saga or a Martian invasion, once you've viewed a Spielbergian take, your memory cells are colored forever by his palette of colors.
This will probably be the same with The Bfg, an extremely faithful and visually majestic rendering of Roald Dahl's bestseller that has sold tens of millions since its release in 1982. The book was banned, by the way, in 1987 in Amana, Iowa, for its gleeful take on cannibalism,...

Bad guys love to cause trouble, and when they don’t have powers or special abilities to accomplish that, they turn to weapons. Such is the case for most of the main characters in Suicide Squad. After all, you can’t go on a dangerous black ops mission without being properly armed, and now you can see some of these weapons up close from a new exhibit showing off props from the DC Extended Universe. In DC Entertainment’s video peeking at the Warner Bros Studio Tour’s DC Universe: The Exhibit, we see things like Batman’s massive armor or the hunk of Kryptonite Lex Luthor obtained in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, it’s the costumes and weapons from Suicide Squad that really catch our interest. For instance, there’s a Harley Quinn mannequin carrying her definitely-not-for-sports baseball bat, ...

Does anyone else get sick of generic Hollywood endings? You know, where the good guy, against all odds, defeats the bad guy and gets the pretty girl? Real life doesn’t usually work like that, so I’ve always enjoyed movies where the bad guy wins in the end. I’m also quite the misanthrope, so your taste may differ. Keep in mind, though, that “protagonist” doesn’t always equate to “good guy,” and likewise for “antagonist” and “bad guy.” Let’s take a look ten movies where it’s the bad guy who comes out on top when it’s all said and done (major spoilers).

After months of mouth-watering trailers and backdoor stage-setting, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is finally upon us. The series, which pulls characters from "Arrow" and "The Flash" and sets them adrift in time, premieres this Thursday on the CW.
Moviefone recently screened the two-part pilot and -– spoiler alert -– it's tremendously fun.
Understandably, there are a lot of moving parts. Not only must "Legends" introduce a brand new protagonist in time master Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), but the series also has to show him wrangle together a large group of colorful heroes and villains from the CW's other comic book shows. The premiere does a great job of weaving in each new character without ever slowing down the narrative, but there is much to digest.
How does the whole time travel thing work exactly? Does "Legends" feel more like "The Flash" or "Arrow"? And what about guest stars -– are there any of them?...
