Henry Selick hasn’t released a feature film since “Coraline” debuted in 2009. While he’s been developing multiple film projects for a while, including the long-delayed “The Shadow King,” it appears new material from Selick will finally be coming soon as the animator makes a move to television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Selick will direct the pilot and potentially more episodes of “Little Nightmares,” from executive producers Anthony and Joe Russo.

Joe and Anthony Russo, co-directors of the last two Captain America movies, will direct a TV adaptation of the 1979 cult classic gang film, The Warriors, Deadline reports.
The brothers will team with writer Frank Baldwin on the one-hour drama series and direct the pilot, though there's no word yet on their directorial commitment beyond that. The show is in development with Paramount TV and Hulu.
Walter Hill directed the original film based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name. The film imagines a grittier, pulpier version of late-Seventies,...

Over 35 years since viewers watched a tight-knit street gang running and fighting for their lives in hopes of surviving to see the sunrise on their own Coney Island turf, Walter Hill's The Warriors is being adapted for the small screen by the Russo brothers.
Deadline reports that filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War) are teaming up with Paramount TV and Hulu to adapt the 1979 film The Warriors (which was based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name, itself inspired by Xenophon's Anabasis) as a TV series comprised of one-hour episodes.
The Russos are set to helm the pilot episode of the series and are also producing the project, with writer Frank Baldwin on board for the adaptation. Lawrence Gordon, one of the people who backed Hill's movie, will be an executive producer on the series.

It's amazing how a little book from 1965 called The Warriors just can't seem to go away. The novel of the same name from author Sol Yurick was adapted in 1979 into a cult hit film that's somehow managed to stick around in name ever since. In addition to the film, the book was adapted by Rockstar into a video game, and later a couple of comic book series.
Now, based on a report from Deadline, it sounds like the name of The Warriors will continue on. According to the outlet, the Russo Brothers -- directors of the most recent Captain America films -- are taking a break from the world of Marvel to create a TV series with Hulu and Paramount. This will not be as much an adaptation of the original novel as it is a re-imagining of the 1979 film.

Fresh off the success of the last two "Captain America" films and before they get around to shooting "The Avengers: Infinity War" saga, filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo are taking a brief respite to work on a different kind of project.
The brothers are set to turn Walter Hill's iconic 1979 film "The Warriors" into a one-hour drama series for Paramount TV and Hulu. An adaptation of Sol Yurick's classic novel, the film was set in 1979 New York City which was being torn apart by deadly gang rivalry.
A charismatic leader summons together the leaders of the 60,000 strong street gangs to negotiate a truce and alliance. When he is assassinated, one of the smaller gangs called the Warriors is framed for his death. The group must then fight their way across town to their home on Coney Island while every other gang is hunting them down to kill them.

To celebrate the October 16th release of the horror anthology Tales of Halloween, Daily Dead spoke to the filmmakers behind the movie to discuss the project, their individual contributions and more.
Writer/director Paul Solet first made a name for himself on the horror scene with his short film “Grace,” which he later adapted into an excellent feature starring Jordan Ladd. His contribution to Tales of Halloween, a pseudo-futuristic punk rock Spaghetti Western called “The Weak and the Wicked,” reunites a few cast members from his most recent feature, Dark Summer, and also showcases a different side of Solet.
Your segment, “The Weak and the Wicked,” is very much an homage to Sergio Leone. Did the story you came up with lend itself to that aesthetic or did you set out to make a Spaghetti Western-inspired piece and design the story to match that?

Blue Underground presents 1990: The Bronx Warriors via a Blu-Ray/DVD Combo set on June 30, 2015 and we got our review for you, right here.
The Movie
1990: The Bronx Warriors is an Italian mash-up of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York and Walter Hill’s The Warriors, as probably evident from the title (Escape from New York was called 1997: Escape from New York in Italy). The Bronx is labelled as “No Man’s Land”, where law & order is vacant and the borough is run by gangs that have their own territories – much like the gangs in The Warriors. Our main gang is “The Riders” which is a motorcycle club (that features real Hell’s Angels) lead by Trash (played by Mark Gregory) who believe that a war is about to begin with other gangs. What they don’t know is the Manhattan Corporation is planting a man...

Last summer "The Purge" unassumingly broke and entered into theaters nationwide. A proudly B-movie affair, produced lovingly by "Paranormal Activity" kingpin Jason Blum, it starred Ethan Hawke and "Game of Thrones" star Lena Headley as a pair of well-off homeowners whose lives descend into chaos during the annual Purge -- a nationwide event where, for 12 hours, any form of crime is legal (and emergency medical services and police are suspended). Things, typically, go awry.
But while "The Purge" entered theaters with a whimper, it certainly left with a bang, making an unexpectedly healthy return on its modest budget and serving as the foundation of a probably franchise that, with any luck, will rival "Paranormal Activity" in terms of the numbers of installments and complexity of its respective mythology. The first follow-up film, "The Purge: Anarchy," arrives this week and takes an entirely different approach to the annual day of super violent cleansing.

For this second helping of Junkfood Cinema, Brian and Cargill first chew on a very important issue: ironic film appreciation. Too often films like those that will appear on the menu of this podcast are viewed through the lens of arrogant snark. A dividing line needs to be drawn. In the second segment, your resident junk men serve up one of their favorite movies from one of their favorite forgotten genres: 80s Italian post-apocalyptic ripoffs. If you aren’t familiar with this strange, often entirely plagiaristic movement, then 1990: The Bronx Warriors is the flick on which to cut your teeth. A phenomenal frappe of Walter Hill’s The Warriors and John Carpenter’s Escape from New York, Bronx Warriors is a triumph of the weird, and an endlessly fun film. Sung Kang is becoming a familiar face to action fans, thanks to his popular and recurring role in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. As one of Hollywood’s most prominent and vocal Asian-American actors, Kang is overdue for big roles, and “A Bullet to the Head” is a major step forward, letting him share the stage as Sylvester Stallone’s reluctant partner.
Kang joined the cast amid some controversy, replacing a very vocal and angry Thomas Jane, which isn’t exactly the most auspicious start to a project. But Kang shrugged it off while talking to us, focusing instead on just how unusual and exciting it was to get a call to be Stallone’s costar in a Walter Hill film.
It’s easy to want to talk to Kang forever. Funny, charismatic, and verbose, he was open about the issues facing an Asian-American actor, the tricky line one walks with ethnic jokes,...

Walter Hill needs no introduction. He’s written and directed some of the iconic and legendary films of the ‘80s and ‘90s — The Warriors, The Driver, 48 Hrs, Hard Times., Brewster’s Millions, The Drowning Pool. His fingerprints are on Alien and Aliens. He injected some fresh blood into the Western genre. You name it, he’s done it, and he’s inspired dozens of filmmakers and screenwriters, all of whom aim to use his hardboiled, gritty, and lean style.
Despite his successes – and films that are so beloved and recognized that they’re always on the verge of being remade – Hill’s output has slowed down. It’s a shame, as his films are exactly the kind of character driven, mature, and efficient action that moviegoers are craving. “A Bullet to the Head” is Hill’s first big screen production since 2002, and hopefully is a sign of a career resurgence...

Sarah Shahi is probably best known for her television work on “Fairly Legal,” “Life,” “The L Word,” and a fairly memorable appearance on “The Sopranos.” While she’s no stranger to the big screen, “A Bullet to the Head” will undoubtedly make moviegoers sit up, and take notice of her. Shahi plays Lisa Bobo, estranged daughter of Sylvester Stallone’s Jimmy, who makes her living tattooing New Orleans citizens, and sports a fair share of ink herself.

The recent nostalgia for those gleefully silly action romps from the 1980s, embodied in films such as The Expendables, could have coincided swimmingly with the big-screen return of legendary and influential filmmaker Walter Hill, who hasn’t directed a feature film in over a decade. However, working from meatier source material than the genre is used to – Alexis Nolent’s French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete – apparently does little to inspire the director, who anonymously helms this brain-dead action movie that will struggle to please even Sylvester Stallone’s most dew-eyed and dedicated fans.
After his partner is brutally murdered, amusingly-monikered hitman Jimmy Bobo (Stallone) teams up with a young detective, Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang) to take down the shady bureaucrats responsible and clean up the New Orleans streets once and for all. If you’re planning to see the Broadway adaptation of Once (which opens at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Mar. 18), I’ve already spoiled something for you: the moment when you say to yourself, “Oh my God, that’s the bad guy from The Warriors up on stage.” Yep, the man who said the oft-quoted “Warriors, come out to play-ay” is in a musical—singing, dancing, strumming the mandolin (Once’s cast is also its orchestra) and play-ay-ing the father of the guitar-playing hero.
For David Patrick Kelly, rocking a mandolin on Broadway is actually the most natural thing in the world.

Originally, the next big action flick from Sylvester Stallone was going to be Bullet to the Head from director Walter Hill with a slated release next month. However, the film was nixed from the Warner Bros. release schedule last week. Now we know why as Twitch learned over the weekend that Stallone is taking the time to recut the film himself with an eye towards putting the film in theaters around November instead. That doesn't bode well for faith in the action production, especially since if you're not happy with a cut from the director behind 48 Hrs. and Warriors, then how can you possibly be happy with anything? More below! Stallone has always been quite a control freak with his projects though, and knowing that he's been as busy behind the camera for The Expendables franchise as he has in front of it, there's really not much surprising about this...

If you look at Tony Scott’s IMDb page, the first thing you notice is that he has 31 movies listed as being in development. This is a guy who really likes to talk about what he might be doing next, so whenever his name is involved I generally take the news with a grain of salt. Fact is, Scott hasn’t actually sat down and got to work on directing anything since 2010’s Unstoppable, and any talk about him doing Top Gun 2, a Warriors remake, Hell’s Angels, or what ever else, has so far amounted to just that; talk. With that in mind, Deadline North Shields has their eye on a story that they say seems different from the usual Tony Scott big show and no results. They say that things are heating up around a project called Lucky Strike in a very real way, as Emmett/Furla Films is on board to fund the...

But if Tony Scott has anything to do with it, Vaughn may well re-establish his action man credentials for Lucky Strike.Deadline reports that Scott is getting closer to directing the thriller, which would see a DEA agent teaming up with a drug runner to take down a drug cartel. While Henry Bean’s script has sat on the long, long list of projects that Scott is interested in for a while now, it appears he’s increasingly thinking of it as his next potential directing gig. Which will disappoint anyone involved with or interested in Hell’s Angels, the Warriors remake, Top Gun 2, Potsdamer Platz, Nemesis and his still-to-be-named Chippendales drama. Tony Scott hasn't set up a new project for himself since his last film, 2010's Unstoppable, became a pretty big worldwide hit, grossing $160 million overall. The director of Top Gun and Crimson Tide has never been shy about constantly talking up the projects he wants to make next, but even with rumors of everything from a Warriors remake to the 24 movie, nothing seems to have solidified. Until now, that is-- maybe. Deadline reports that Scott could finally be settling on Lucky Strike, which would star Vince Vaughn and be distributed by 20th Century Fox. In a change of pace for the Four Christmases star, but right in Scott's wheelhouse, Lucky Strike would be an action thriller about a DEA agent teaming up with a drug runner to take down a presumably even worse drug cartel. Vaughn also recently seemed ready to reunite with Owen Wilson for the raunchy comedy Interns,...

The movie stars Stallone as a New Orleans hitman who partners with a New York cop (Fast Five's Sung Kang) to bring down the men who killed their respective partners. Christian Slater, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) and Holt McCallany (Lights Out) have all joined Sylvester Stallone in a new untitled action-thriller being directed by Walter Hill (48 Hours, Warriors, Last Man Standing, Red Heat). The film was previously titled Headshot.
The script for the film was written by Alessandro Camon (The Messenger) The story follows Stallone's character, a New Orleans hitman, as he teams with a young NYPD detective, played by Sung Kang, in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge.
According to Variety, Akinnuoye-Agbaje is set to play the main villain in the story, a powerful attorney who's trying to cover up his scam to exploit poor neighborhoods...

Sylvester Stallone is set to hit the big screen again in an action thriller based on the graphic novel Bullet to the Head with producer Joel Silver.
The actor will reteam with Silver who he previously worked with on Demolition Man and Assassins.
Walter Hill is set to direct the film, which will start filming in Louisiana this summer and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
It tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners.
Silver also worked with director Hill on Warriors and HBO's Tales from the Crypt.
So it's a reunion of sorts.

Hill has made some pretty kick-ass films in his day which includes (48 Hours, Warriors, Last Man Standing, Red Heat). Just last week Stallone had a meeting with the director about the movie and it's great to see that it all worked out. Here's what Stallone told HArry from AICN.

Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family") has drawn interest from the Farrelly Brothers to play a vixen who lures the knuckleheaded trio into a potential murder-for-hire scheme in their big-screen version of The Three Stooges, according to Entertainment Weekly. The move would fall right in line with the casting of TV stars Will Sasso ("$#*! My Dad Says") as Curly and Sean Hayes ("Will and Grace") as Larry. We're still waiting for word on the casting of Moe.

We just reported that director Wayne Kramer (Running Scared, The Cooler) has left Sylvester Stallone's "Headshot" film after clashing creatively with Stallone on the direction of the film. Now comes word that Kramer was fired because he wanted to make the film much darker and more violent than Stallone's vision. "Initially, Mr. Kramer was hired to direct a dark comedy; however his vision was much darker and exceptionally more violent than how the project was originally conceived," said Stallone. "It was decided that it would be better for everyone to move on and consequently Mr. Kramer was dismissed by producers earlier this week. There were no volatile clashes, it was simply a professional parting of the ways." He went on to say "Headshot" is still moving forward and the actor has already had serious meetings with Walter Hill (48 Hours, Warriors). "I completely respect Walter's incredible body of work and...

Earlier this week director Wayne Kramer was let go of the new Sylvester Stallone film project Headshot because of creative differences. Stallone said in a statement that,

It was decided that it would be better for everyone to move on and consequently Mr. Kramer was dismissed by producers earlier this week. It looks like Stallone may have found Kramer's replacement in the director's chair. He has been meeting with Walter Hill (48 Hours, Warriors, Last Man Standing, Red Heat) about the possibility of taking on the directorial duties. Stallone seems to be excited about it.
I completely respect Walter's incredible body of work and hopefully this legendary director will become attached to the project.

For every classic theme song, a dozen are seemingly forgotten. Here’s our list of ten movie tunes that deserve to be rediscovered…
It seems like every studio-released movie today comes pre-packaged with a shiny soundtrack (Iron Man 2's AC/DC fest is a riff on 1986's Maximum Overdrive).
Sometimes a big hit emerges from the mix, but most often, songs used to promote the film in another venue, say iTunes, quickly disappear into the ether.
Gone, but not entirely forgotten, most, if not all, of the following songs from movies have found their way to the afterlife of YouTube.
Here are ten top tunes to seek out...
Sweet Talkin' Candy Man (Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls)
Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls features the usual perks of a Russ Meyer flick (including a star turn by Dolly Read), great rapid-fire editing, and boasts a script full of quotable lines by Roger Ebert.

Horror remakes are definitely the hot new trend in Hollywood and I had no idea just how many remakes were being planned until I sat down and drew up a list of as many as I could find. I stopped at 7 pages and needless to say it seems that just about every movie you can imagine is getting a remake-prequel or reboot into 3D.
Here is a pretty complete list of upcoming horror remakes as of today in alphabetical order. Note: There are a few on this list that are only in the early phases of discussion and in some cases I included franchise reboots as well.
13 Tzameti: Starting the list off 13 Tzameti is more thriller then horror but still worthy of making the list. The film which started filming in New York awhile back will star Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham. The original film is a tale of Russian roulette with gruesome outcomes.

Which are the movies that have most influenced the look and feel of videogames? Here are Ryan's suggestions...
Hollywood's angry with its public. Sick of all the illegal downloads and the pesky statistics that repeatedly say videogames are making more money, the moguls of Tinseltown have forced us to wear magical glasses while we watch their films. Ugly, plastic spectacles that make cinema goers look like welders, and force people who already wear spectacles to wear another pair of spectacles over the top of them, pushing the spectacles underneath into the skin around their nose and ears in particularly uncomfortable fashion.
Hollywood executives go on about how 3D movies are the future, and how one day 2D films will be about as fashionable as basket weaving, but I don't believe them.
La-La land is losing its grip on popular culture, and it's not happy. So, in a final, parting shot of defiance,...

That's right folks, director Tony Scott might actually be directing a movie without Denzel Washington as Deadline reports a drama with the messy title Potzdamer Platz might be his next project after finishing Unstoppable, the action flick starring Chris Pine, and, yes, Denzel Washington. Apparently the filmmaker already has the interest of Javier Bardem, Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham for a story about two soldiers in a New Jersey-based crime family who try to expand internationally, however it's unclear if they're all interested in the same part, or three different roles. Apparently this has been in development since 2000. This is one of a couple of passion projects that Scott has brought up occasionally over the years along with a remake of the Walter Hill's Warriors. The original script by Buddy Giovinazzo has been rewritten by Sexy Beast writers David Scinto and Louis Mellis, and it's looking like the title...

Filmmaker Tony Scott was all over the place in his recent interview with ComingSoon. Yesterday, we reported that he’s officially called a “time out” on talk of the rumored “Alien” remake. He also revealed his plans for the coming “re-tooling” of “The Warriors,” along with a bunch of other interesting tidbits.
The bit that really caught my eye was the revelation that Stephen Gaghan, the Oscar-winning writer of “Traffic,” is developing a script for an adaptation of Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s seminal work, “Hell’s Angels.” It’s a wild bit of non-fiction writing culled from a very specific moment in history.
Thompson essentially signed on as a de facto member of the notorious biker gang while conducting his research. The process of earning the gang’s trust to the point that he let them hang around is a story unto itself. Thompson was always an outsider...

Tony Scott has a lot on his plate at the moment, not the least of which are planned reboots and remakes of the “Alien” and “The Warriors” franchises, respectively. (Don’t know the difference? I got you covered.)
Ask Scott about either one of those franchises and he’s likely to give you a lip-full or a stone-wall — just depends on which one he’s talking about.
“I’m going to call a time out on that one,” Scott told Coming Soon of the “Alien” prequel, a film that’s been troubled by conflicting views on who might direct the project. Tony’s brother and producer Ridley Scott apparently wants newcomer Carl Rinsch to helm the movie, but Fox wants Ridley — the original “Alien” helmer — behind the lens.
“I don’t want to get caught in the middle,” Scott insisted. “We’re in process on that, but I don’t...
