New leaks hint at Dragon’s Dogma 2 not being the only open-world game from Capcom for a while. After a recent info dump by industry insider Dusk Golem, Capcom’s upcoming projects seem to be following a pattern of innovation and evolution.
Known for its iconic franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, the company seems to be delving into new territories while retaining the essence of these beloved series.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Might’ve Set a Precedent for Resident Evil 9
RE9 might follow the open-world formula of Dragon’s Dogma 2
Dusk Golem explains that Capcom tends to greenlight new initiatives in threes, often in close succession. This pattern has been observed in the past with games like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry 5, which were all greenlit closely together to use the full extent of the (at the time) new Re Engine.
(1/2) So here's a little tidbit I'll share,...

David Carson's 1994 film "Star Trek: Generations" has a farfetched premise, even by Trek's own outlandish standards. It seems there is a mysterious energy ribbon called the Nexus that periodically floats through the galaxy. The Nexus destroys any starships it encounters but also sweeps living beings into its own mysterious pocket dimension. The Nexus' pocket dimension is essentially Heaven, where its victims live out their happiest memories. Time also stands still in the Nexus, allowing its inhabitants to remain there eternally.
The physical existence of Heaven, one might think, would be a heady concept for a humanist franchise like "Star Trek." How would the universe react if Heaven was in a physical location one could visit? One might think there would be a mad dash to get there as soon as possible, rapidly depleting the galaxy's population.
Sadly, "Generations" sidesteps any interesting ideas in favor of a useless "pass the...

A winner was officially crowned on The Challenge: Battle For a New Champion as the second part of the final wrapped up.
Viewers saw which of the remaining finalists would become a champion for the first time in their Challenge career. Those still competing included Emanuel Neagu, Moriah Jadea, Nurys Mateo, Corey Lay, Berna Canbeldek, and Colleen Schneider.
However, there was a matter to be handled at the start of the episode, as the Chaos elimination arrived to get rid of another competitor.
Host Tj Lavin shared that Emanuel was the clear winner of the Chaos phase, which meant he got to choose someone to send into elimination.
He said he would choose Nurys since he hadn’t worked with her during the season.
With that, Tj brought everyone to The Draw, where Nurys had to choose one of six poles in the sand. Four poles had castmates’ names, and two were Chaos poles,...

The Challenge: Battle For a New Champion entered its final phase as Chaos ended, and Conquest began eliminating more competitors before the final.
The Chaos phase featured the arrival of the ten former Challenge champions to The Arena, including Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, Jordan Wiseley, and Chris “Ct” Tamburello.
Several champs ousted Season 39 cast members from the game, while others were defeated.
When host Tj Lavin revealed Conquest, he indicated it would be an individual game now and that whoever came in last place in the daily challenge would be sent home via a purge.
The winner also received safety from elimination, starting a chain reaction of votes that ultimately determined who would fight to stay in the game.
When all was said and done, two competitors got sent home from Season 39 with no more chance at winning that hefty grand prize.

In Sudabeh Mortezai’s provocative fifth feature, “Europa,” the Vienna-based director follows ambitious executive Beate from Europa, a mysterious corporation looking to expand into the Balkans by seemingly promoting philanthropy and investment in underdeveloped areas. What Europa actually needs is to buy land from the locals in a remote Albanian valley. The film plays in Competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Mortezai can’t exactly pinpoint the genesis of “Europa” to a specific idea or moment, but says it’s rather an amalgamation of observations she’s made over time and her own interest in the general state of our world. “I’ve been observing or experiencing a disconnect between the ideals we have. And Europe is not just a continent. It’s a promise of human rights, of specific values,” she says. “And when you see a disconnect between that and many aspects like income, social inequality, economic inequality,...

Sir Ben Kingsley has added the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dalí to his list of iconic film roles, thanks to “Dalíland,” which closed out the 2022 Toronto Film Festival. Kingsley visited TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto International Film Festival for a discussion about the filmmaking process.
“I love his work and also I love the opportunity — I welcome the opportunity to stretch my comprehension and intelligence,” he told Senior Film Reporter Brian Welk. “It’s exhausting and exhilarating at the same time, and I felt that having an opportunity to portray Dalí, and I say ‘portray’ because in a sense, I’m a portrait artist, but I don’t have any paints, so I don’t work with stone or clay. I work with my voice, my imagination and my body. That’s all I have.”

It's no secret that Alfred Hitchcock was a controlling director. Not only did he famously call actors cattle, Hitchcock also had no qualms about misleading studio executives in order to make "North by Northwest," a passion project. Simply put, Hitchcock was cunning and skilled enough to get his way — and made it known when he didn't.
But despite the director's track record, there was one thing he couldn't control: cats. While the animals likely would've made a great addition to Hitchcock's pictures — after all, they're stereotypically sly animals and would feel right at home in a suspenseful Hitchcock thriller — he was simply unable to master the art of cat-whispering.
In an interview with fellow director François Truffaut, Hitchcock revealed that he had initially planned to have around a hundred cats lounging around a gang hideout in "Number Seventeen," a comedy thriller that was made relatively early in the so-called master of suspense's career.

Reality dating is getting a classic twist this fall with the premiere of “The Real Love Boat,” which aims to bring nostalgia, fun and romance to CBS.
Premiering Wednesday, Oct. 5, “The Real Love Boat” takes inspiration from the classic late-1970s and 1980s-spanning show that combined comedy, drama and romance, as it brings together 10 singles – five women and five men (with additions coming on at various ports) – for an unforgettable Mediterranean cruise and a shot at love.
“It’s super, super fun and it brings back the feels as we always like to say as we’re watching it,” executive producer Jay Bienstock told TheWrap when we spoke to him about the new reality series for our Fall TV Preview.
Real life couple Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn, who are featured in the key art, which TheWrap can exclusively reveal below, serve as hosts of the show, and via their own romance,...

With its seventh edition coming to an end, Venice’s Book Adaptation Rights Market (Barm) is already eyeing the future. The three-day event – taking place during the Italian fest – is now recognized as the third most important annual rendezvous by the publishers, states Pascal Diot, head of industry sidebar Venice Production Bridge.
“It’s starting to be ‘the’ event for the publishers to attend,” agrees Vpb’s Chiara Marin.
“Before, I would go to all these book fairs and when I would mention Venice Film Festival, people would go: ‘What are you doing here?,’ ” she laughs.
As the demand for adapted stories increases, even more publishers and literary agencies were invited this year, including Taipei’s Dala Publishing, Emily Books Agency and The Grayhawk Agency. Due to popular demand, the event also decided to focus on comics and graphic novels, with the likes of Casterman, Glénat, Nathan, Tunué, Astiberri Ediciones,...

There’s a new giant in town, or at least at Locarno’s Match Me!, one of the festival’s biggest industry initiatives.
For years, by a large head, France has had more titles at the Locarno Festival’s two biggest sections, the Piazza Grande showcase and main International Competition than any other country in the world. 2022 is no exception.
Unifrance also hosts the Festival’s biggest industry bash, a first Friday night sit-down dinner or party which used to take place at Locarno’s hillside Belvedere Hotel and has now moved to the near Maggiore Lake-side Blu Restaurant.
Now, however, Unifrance, Europe’s biggest national film-tv promotion board, has put its weight behind Match Me!, a networking initiative this year bringing together 32 emerging producers from over the world.
“It’s a perfect fit,” said Locarno Pro head Markus Duffner. Unifrance’s first-time presence at Match Me! also says much...

A lopsided diptych that welds an intimate travelogue through Italian cinema and history to a rather shaky bit of literary adaptation, Paolo Taviani’s “Leonora Addio” is, in theory, a valentine to Sicilian poet and dramaturge Luigi Pirandello, and in practice an extended homage to the filmmaker’s brother, Vittorio. But then, given the brothers’ seven-decade partnership, which brought them a Palme d’Or, a Golden Bear, and a lifetime achievement Lion in Venice (among several other glories), and only came to a close upon Vittorio’s death in 2018, how can the 90-year-old Paolo Taviani’s first solo effort be anything else?
And so, well after his opening dedication “To my brother Vittorio,” Taviani never stops finding new ways to evoke his loss, just as the film proper never stops reinventing itself. A travelogue not only across land but also through moods and styles and diverse film forms,

It’s no spoiler to say that Luigi Pirandello dies nine minutes into “Leonora addio.” This alternately playful and lugubrious work of reflection isn’t really about the controversial Italian writer’s life at all, but rather his legacy, and in a less literal yet ineluctable sense, that of film directors Paolo and Vittorio Taviani.
Over the course of half a century, the two cinematic siblings made movies together — including 1985’s “Kaos,” an omnibus-style collection of five Pirandello stories — bookending their career together by winning top prizes at the Cannes and Berlin film festivals. And then, in 2018, Vittorio died.
“Leonora addio” marks Paolo’s first solo feature. There’s almost no way not to read the film as a farewell by one sibling to another, or an even larger-aperture reflection on what becomes of an artist and his art after his passing — more relevant now than ever, with monuments being...

Four years after the death of his brother Vittorio, with whom he shared a celebrated career, Paolo Taviani is back in the Berlin competition solo, with “Leonora Addio.”
The brothers won the Golden Bear in 2012 with “Caesar Must Die,” about high-security inmates performing Shakespeare.
The free-form film he made –– screening on Feb. 15 –– takes its cue from a story titled “Il Chiodo” (“The Nail”) by Italian playwright and author Luigi Pirandello, written shortly before he died in 1936. That aspect of the pic is a long-gestating project that Paolo, who is 91, says he and Vittorio had long intended to film together.
The Taviani brothers previously drew from Pirandello, most notably for their 1984 drama “Kaos.”
“We even wrote it,” said Taviani, referring to “Il Chiodo.” “Then, when I started working on it alone, as always happens, I modified it. But that’s the origin [of “Leonora Addio”].”

Exclusive: Amazon has beaten out a number of bidders for the small-screen rights to fantasy novel The Atlas Six, which went viral on TikTok earlier this year.
The streamer is now developing the project as a series with author Alexene Farol Follmuth, otherwise known as Olivie Blake, and Brightstar, the London-based production company founded by The Crown producer Tanya Seghatchian and Cold War producer John Woodward.
The book begins when six of the uniquely talented magicians are selected to earn a place in The Alexandrian Society, the eternally powerful secret society in the world.
The chosen – only six are chosen each decade – will secure a life of power and prestige beyond their wildest dreams. But at what cost? Each of the six newest recruits has their reasons for accepting the Society’s elusive invitation. Even if it means growing closer than they could have imagined to their most dangerous enemies...

Netflix Commissions Five UK Series: Rapman Superhero Show; ‘One Day’ Adaptation; Abi Morgan Thriller
Netflix has announced five new scripted series that it has commissioned out of the UK, all of which will shoot in the country in 2022.
On the list is Supacell, a superhero drama following a group of seemingly ordinary people from South London who unexpectedly develop super powers, with no connection between them aside from them all being Black. Mouktar Mohammed and Henrietta Lee of New Wave are executive producer and associate producer respectively.
The streamer has also commissioned an adaptation of David Nicholls’s romance novel One Day. It will follow protagonists Em and Dex as they meet up on one particular day year after year. The show is a Drama Republic Production with Universal International Studios and Focus Features. One Day was previously made into a feature starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

HBO and Sky are teaming on the co-production “The Baby.”
The eight-episode series is described as a darkly comic horror series co-created by Siân Robins-Grace and Lucy Gaymer. When 38-year-old Natasha is unexpectedly landed with a baby, her life of doing what she wants, when she wants, dramatically implodes. Controlling, manipulative and with violent powers, the baby twists Natasha’s life into a horror show. Where does it come from? What does it want? And what lengths will Natasha have to go to in order to get her life back?
“With ‘The Baby,’ we want to explore the powerful anxiety around the question of whether or not to have children,” said Robins-Grace and Gaymer. “The ambivalence of not knowing, the bafflement at everyone else’s certainty and the suspicion that the whole thing is one millennia-long scam.

We're going to have to wait a little longer for some of the buzziest new shows planned for the next year or two, including Kaos on Netflix. The quirky fantasy series based on mythology has intrigued us since it was announced, but now due to the current shutdowns, it could be a year or more before it finally arrives on Netflix. So why are we talking about it? Because quietly and without any fanfare, a details page for the show has turned up on Netflix.
According to a Deadline report from when Kaos was officially picked up back in 2018, the show is "a darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld." The mind behind it is one that should be familiar to Netflix fans: Charlie Covell, who also created The End of The F***ing World. No further information about the show had been announced,...

We live in a society that will be able to buy and own the Joker movie.
Todd Phillips was a pretty odd choice to direct Joker for Warner Bros. Despite having a background planted largely in broad comedies like The Hangover Trilogy, his standalone DC movie wasn't exactly expected to be packed with laughs, but his Clown Prince of Crime, Joaquin Phoenix, was coming in off the back of a string of excellent dramatic performances. What could Phillips and Phoenix do with a problematic character that had already been so deftly played by the late Heath Ledger just a decade and change ago?
Quite a lot, objectively. The film found its fan base straight away. Critics raved and rolled their eyes in equal measure, and the internet's pre-release rage against the movie ended up doing a lot of its marketing for it. Joker ended up taking away...

It’s amazing the difference a few months can make. Fans of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” video game are over the moon with excitement at the latest trailer for the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie. This time, it seems, the visual effects team finally got the character’s look right.
Reactions to the original trailer last spring ranged from perplexed to horrified as the internet sent an avalanche of memes to gawk at the blue hedgehog’s fur, eyes and most notably his human-looking teeth. The new trailer released Tuesday morning gave Sonic a slicker look and bigger eyes that more closely resemble the “mono-eye” sported by the video game character. And side by side shots of the same scene in both trailers show those teeth have been noticeably trimmed down.
“Sonic’s nightmare fuel teeth have truly been cancelled,” former Deadspin writer Drew Magary posted on Twitter.
“All is forgiven Paramount,...

Nickelodeon is taking you to a pineapple under the sea — and Broadway — this December with a live TV special version of “The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!” set to air this holiday season, the kids’ cable channel said Thursday.
Director Tina Landau and members of the Broadway show’s original award-winning company will reunite to film the musical in front of a live theater audience with a production that “will capture all-new depths of theatrical innovation where the power of optimism really can save the world.”
Here’s the description for the musical: “Stakes are higher than ever before as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage.”

It’s been over a twenty years since Scream reinvented the slasher genre, heralding a new age of post-modern, self-referential horror. In the two decades since, the genre has found its way back to its more horrific, and in a lot of cases cliched, ways – with modern filmmakers, many of whom grew up in the 80s at the height of the slashers popularity, rediscovering what made the much-maligned genre so great. However, given that film, like life, is cyclical, it means its probably about time for yet another “reinvention.”
And to that end comes Ruin Me….
Every Halloween, more extreme haunted attractions open for business, each promising even more thrills. Some have taken this to a whole new level.
