When the very first Mad Max movie was released in 1979, no one could have predicted the heights to which the franchise would climb. Since then, there have been six feature-length films, and the franchise has also branched out into other forms of media, such as comics and video games.
With the release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, George Miller has been asked a lot about the movie and the future of the franchise. One question asked was whether he ever envisioned another video game for the franchise, and Miller said it could only be done by a very specific person.
Mad Max Director George Miller Trusts Hideo Kojima Implicitly Mad Max 2015 did not sit well with Miller.
The release of Mad Max: Fury Road led to the launch of the Mad Max game. You would not have been faulted for dismissing the title as just another movie spin-off, as those games are rarely good.

Historical preservation has never been much of a priority in the gaming biz, with this commercially-driven industry preferring to chase after what’s trendy and in vogue, oftentimes at the expense of its own heritage.
After all, there’s little profit to be squeezed from varnishing creaky retro titles that are well past their prime (and of interest to only a select few hobbyists), when contemporary blockbusters can instead be lightening wallets the world over through their lucrative microtransactions, exorbitantly-priced deluxe editions, and in-game ads. Everyone knows that’s where the real bank is to be made!
Aaa publishers — who care far more about their quarterly earnings reports than they do about leaving behind any kind of artistic legacy — are hardly incentivised to look after the classics in their libraries then. Which is sad, because it leads to plenty of oldies-but-goodies getting neglected or, worse, lost to time.

The third installment based on Konami’s horror survival game, Silent Hill, is expected to release this year. The preview of Return to Silent Hill screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the new Christophe Gans-directed film will be adapted from the game Silent Hill 2. The preview also gave a first look into the villain of the film, and fans are excited to see that the terrifying monster Pyramid Head closely resembled its video game version.

The first two films, Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Revelation, were critical failures. However, gamers were completely blown away by the gameplay of Silent Hill 2, which raises the expectations of the current film. The game took inspiration from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

After a series of Covid-related delays, production finally got underway on the long-gestating Silent Hill "requel" last year in Germany, and a first official image from the movie has been released ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The still (via Fandango) gives us a first look at a redesigned take on the big bad of the survival horror video game series, Pyramid Head.
Pyramid Head, also known as "Red Pyramid", "Red Pyramid Thing" and "Triangle Head," was introduced in the second game, and his distinctive visage has gone on to become arguably the most iconic piece of imagery from the franchise.
This new version of the character doesn't look a million miles away from the video game take, but the pyramid-shaped helmet appears to be winder and longer.
Check out the still at the link below.

As the Silent Hill franchise continues to crawl its way back to resurgence, fans of the series now look forward to how Konami brings the seminal Silent Hill 2 back into the limelight with an upcoming film and a remake. It’s a humongous task, given how much the game means to the fan base.
Now, with the first look at Silent Hill 2’s adaptation, Return to Silent Hill, reactions range from being positive about the franchise’s future to outright skepticism.

Sometimes it’s tough to classify a movie in terms of the genres, as it may blend a number of various elements and stylistics. The 90s obscure movie that has recently been recalled by Redditors is a perfect example of a multi-genre gem.
Even though this film is attributed to the genre of horrors, it’s also much of a mystery thriller and, what’s most interesting, of a war drama about post-traumatic stress disorder. It’ll be of great interest for the most curious cinephiles and horror lovers.
Its plot revolves around Jacob Singer, a Vietnam veteran, who returns home and tries to continue his usual life, as if the war has never happened. However, he gets plagued by terrifying hallucinations, fragmentary visions and flashbacks from Vietnam.
Jacob’s world starts to gradually fall apart, with people and objects of the real world around him morphing with hallucinatory glimpses...

Stellar Blade is a recent PlayStation 5 exclusive developed by ShiftUp, which got a lot of hype from gamers but was also surrounded by controversy for its art style. To pinpoint, the protagonist’s outfit caused the most raised eyebrows, if social media posts are any indication.
A similar controversy also surrounded GTA 5 after its announcement and even when the game was released, resulting in record-breaking sales numbers for its mature themes and elements related to crime. But some games rile up people just the same, if not more, due to their elements.

With the 20th anniversary of Silent Hill 4: The Room right around the corner, you’d hope that someone would give some love to this divisive entry to the series. Director Nick Merola has done just that. Much like Leigh Thorne and Ruben Abreu’s fan film Silent Hill: Road of Guilt, Merola has created a short film of his own, this time based on Silent Hill 4: The Room. On top of that, Merola has a more ambitious plan: persuading Konami to develop a television series adaptation.
Silent Hill: The Room recreates the unsettling and iconic intro scene of Silent Hill 4: The Room, where Henry Townshend (played by Brian Dole) wakes up to find himself mysteriously locked in his own apartment. Filmed in just a single day in Merola’s own apartment, the crew included extensive attention to detail. Things ranging from the chained door of room 302, to...

To call Sfb Games’s Crow Country pleasant would seem to clash with its horror setting, which is played reasonably straight. The game’s setting is an abandoned amusement park, whose ransacked corridors are now home to a horde of rotting mutants. But Crow Country nonetheless exudes a rather cozy atmosphere, with its lo-fi style bathing this house of horrors in a warm glow of nostalgia. The colors pop beneath a hazy PS1-esque filter, and the textures are smooth and shiny, reminiscent of early 3D’s plasticene aesthetics.
Blood pools beneath monsters in a perfect, shimmering circle, and characters like the game’s protagonist, Mara Forest, are squat and cartoonish, more of a piece with the 3D polygonal models from the original Final Fantasy VII than the more realistic character models from the horror touchstones of the PS1 era like Resident Evil or Silent Hill. From the overhead camera perspective,...

I’m always amazed that during the original PlayStation era, we were graced with a pair of survival horror games that would be two very different tonal blueprints for the genre going forward. Resident Evil became the model for the more B-movie route, with gory thrills and eerie mysteries, while Silent Hill would show us something a bit more in the vein of David Lynch, featuring more surrealism and introspection. We’ve had some really excellent Silent Hill-esque ones in the last few years, with standouts like Signalis and Homebody, but I personally haven’t been as grabbed by the ones that try to do Resident Evil.
Crow Country, from the small team at Sfb Games, changed that for me.
Crow Country is set in 1990 and casts you as Mara Forest, a young woman investigating the titular amusement park, which mysteriously closed two years prior. Obviously, something sinister is afoot,...

2023 was a feast for gamers who love the horror genre. With RE4, Dead Space, Dead Island 2, and the anticipated Alan Wake sequel, we’ve had our fill-off “Why are you running?” meme-worthy moments. This year, though, things have seemed a little too quiet on the spooky front. But it looks like we’ll be quivering soon enough with releases like Hellblade 2 and Little Nightmares 3.
Alan Wake 2 was a mind-boggling hit with its twisted and intricate story.
There is another, set for a June release, that seems to have players on the edge of their seats- Still Wakes the Deep. Labeled a disaster story, the game takes place in a contained space on an oil rig. Metal Gear Solid, Kojima’s successful game series, is now considered one of the biggest and most important video game series of all time. So, what makes this series famous and enables it to sell millions of units around the world? Definitely the stealth mechanics and cinematic cutscenes that draw the player in.

It’s no surprise that after 35 years, people are still playing Nintendo’s classic grey brick in the Game Boy. What is surprising is that fans are developing and releasing games for the system. Thanks to programs like Gb Studio, you too can develop your own Game Boy games, and that of course includes horror games. And there are plenty of ’em. So rather than listing off the usual suspects that includes Castlevania, Contra, and the like for the Game Boy’s anniversary, here’s a selection of more recent handheld horrors that you (if you have the right equipment) can play in all their spinach-coloured glory.

Video games are more than just merely sources of entertainment. Players have been emotionally attached to video games in ways one could have rarely imagined. And it’s fair enough given the content, elements, characters, lores as well as the experiences that the games offer. This ensures players not only invest their time but also an emotional as well as mental part of themselves.

EA recently announced that developer Motive Studio will be assisting in the development of the Battlefield franchise while continuing their work on an upcoming Iron Man game. Fans of that studio quickly realized that many of the people involved with Motive’s critically acclaimed 2023 Dead Space remake are now seemingly working on at least one of those two other projects. Yet, EA made no mention of the Dead Space 2 remake that Motive was reportedly supposed to be working on. That notable lack of information caused Dead Space fans to fear the worst.
Now, Jeff Grubb is reporting that Motive has essentially shelved their previously planned Dead Space 2 remake for a reason that has long haunted the Dead Space franchise like so many Necromorphs: disappointing sales.
“They were working on Dead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it,” said Grubb during a recent podcast regarding Motive’s upcoming projects.

As Easter Sunday approaches this weekend, we thought we’d “die” your eggs a little a differently. That is, we’re on the great hidden treasure hunt for some of the most colorful and delicious horror movie Easter eggs found in some of our favorite titles. But here’s the thing. We aren’t talking about obscure cameos from people that are hard to miss, or even secretive foreshadowing within a single movie, a la the entire Final Destination franchise. Nor are we talking about mere verbal references to other horror movies. Rather, we’re interested in visual crossover clues found one horror movie that pay homage to another, found tucked away in the background or even hidden in plain sight. You see the distinction. Good. Hopefully you haven’t already seen what’s to follow. Happy holiday y’all, here’s our Top 10 Favorite Crossover Horror Movie Easter Eggs!

Survival horror games have finally made a comeback in a huge manner. First was The Callisto Protocol, which launched in 2022 to mixed reviews. It was followed by the Dead Space remake, which launched to critical acclaim. Then fans got a game called Resident Evil 4 Remake, and finally, Alan Wake 2 was launched by Remedy Entertainment.
Most of these games were incredibly successful; they were no doubt serving a market that had been overlooked for a while. The above-mentioned games also gave the fans of survival horror games hope that they can now see more such games released in the near future. But some of these games also took a bunch of inspiration from games that were before them, like Alan Wake 2, which was heavily inspired by a classic horror franchise.

There are few television shows where one moment, you can see wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper fully freaked over a poltergeist and the next, catch The Partridge Family‘s Shirley Jones in an ascot mildly put out by a haunted house. Such is the joy of Celebrity Ghost Stories.
One of the show’s many notable qualities is that the celebrities within one episode are strangely matched, like someone tore out pages from a bunch of People magazines from the 1970s and beyond, threw them in the air like confetti, and then picked 3 or 4 celebs at random to group together per episode. This isn’t a criticism — what would the alternative even be, weird theme nights? — but it’s amusingly whiplash-inducing all the same.

Bloody FM‘s Scp Archives is proud to present their new episode inspired by classic survival game Alone in the Dark, in honor of the game’s reboot launching today!
In Pieces Interactive and Thq Nordic’s highly anticipated re-imagining of the classic survival game, Emily Hartwood (Jodie Comer) and Edward Carnby (David Harbor) venture to Derceto Manor, a mental institution, to investigate the disappearance of Emily’s uncle, Jeremy Hartwood. Alone in the Dark is an extremely important franchise within the sub-genre of survival horror. The first game in the series is considered by many to be the first true survival horror video game ever released. Thus, without this franchise, other iconic survival horror titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alan Wake may never have come to pass.
This is one reason that this reimagining of the original Alone in the Dark was my most anticipated 2024 release, the other reason is because survival horror remakes have been knocking it out of the park lately. Last year alone saw Capcom expertly remaster the iconic Resident Evil 4, after the year opened with EA releasing a masterful remake of the original Dead Space.
All of this combined with the star power of David Harbour and Jodie Comer in the lead roles meant that Pieces Interactive’s 2024 reimagining of Alone in the Dark...

Epic Games’ Fortnite is one of the most popular titles, and it owes its popularity to its amazing gameplay and freedom of customization, not to mention that it’s free to play. The developer also brings in collaborations from time to time that have now become a big part of Fortnite.
While the crossovers have helped the game garner more players, they have also overshadowed the main gameplay that first appealed to players. A survey from developers has now been sent to players, asking them about new crossovers they would want in the game.

Look, it’s simply true: even the silliest little goose you know could be hiding murderous tendencies. And if television is meant to reflect aspects of our real lives, why wouldn’t psychos slip under the radar in some of our favorite comedies?
On this week’s episode of Guide to the Unknown, Kristen and Will explore the crimes and theories of The Scranton Strangler of The Office and Dennis Reynolds of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, two welcome sources of darkness griming up otherwise goofy shows.

The internet sure was riled up by those first images of Bill Skarsgård (It) as Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s remake of The Crow a couple weeks back, with even the original movie’s director (Alex Proyas) chiming in and taking a jab at Draven’s “bad hair day.” But it’s not fair to judge movies based solely on a couple of random images. Unlike most genre enthusiasts, horror fans face a unique challenge when trying to share their favorite media with friends and family. While almost anyone can handle watching a rom-com or a space opera (even if they don’t necessarily enjoy the experience), you can get into serious trouble by recommending Martyrs or Cannibal Holocaust to someone who isn’t yet versed in horror.
This is even more challenging when it comes to video games, with the added level of interactivity making scares more intense and raising the odds of alienating a loved one with an excessively disturbing recommendation. With this in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six gateway horror games that you can share with friends, co-workers and even children without risking life-long trauma!
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own non-m-rated horror favorites if you think we missed a particularly fun one.

For more than two decades, Silent Hill 2 has been considered one of the scariest games of all time. The game was first released for PlayStation 2, then Xbox and PC, and in 2012, a remastered version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game’s psychological horror story often makes it hard for one to play it alone and in order to tackle this problem, a gamer has been looking for a companion.

Going through the list can be a daunting task, so here’s six highlights that I’ve tried out and would highly recommend.

After running into difficulties with the original publisher, DreadXP has stepped in to fill the publishing void for the survival horror game, which pays tribute to the low-fidelity look and feel of 90s genre classics Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Dino Crisis.
Aiming for a 2025 release on PC via Steam, Heartworm is described as “a nostalgia-wrapped nightmare” about one girl’s battle with grief and the otherworldly manifestations that may hold the key to the afterlife. Players assume the role of Sam, who driven by her obsession the deaths of those closest to her, spends her days crawling the internet looking for something to alleviate her pain. Sam’s morbid research takes her deep into the dark web, where she stumbles upon an internet message board that talks about a mysterious house in the...

With Chasing Static developer Headware Games releasing their psychological Survival Horror game Hollowbody later this year, it only makes sense to give prospective fans a taste of what’s on offer, right? Case in point: Headware Games has released a “playable teaser” for Hollowbody, which is available on the game’s Steam page.
The short 20-30 minute teaser for Hollowbody shows off the game’s world and core systems, allowing players to mess around in a curated section of the game. “I’ve been working super hard to get this to a standard where I am happy to release it publicly,” says Nath of Headware Games, who’s also doing the music for Hollowbody.
Described by Nath as a “dystopian alt-future take on Silent Hill“, Hollowbody follows Mica, an unlicensed Shipper working for a ring of black market freelancers. Mica finds herself stranded in a long abandoned British city in the exclusion zone,...

After a couple of delays, Thq’s belated remake of Alone in the Dark is almost upon us and we couldn’t be more hyped. After all, the title is poised to breathe fresh life into what was once recognized as the granddaddy of survival horror (even though it predates that label by a good few years).
You see, despite its far-reaching influence — which can be felt in everything from classic Resident Evil to mainline Silent Hill entries— this IP has been languishing since the turn of the millennium. Owing to a string of increasingly dodgy sequels, very few gamers under the age of thirty are likely to hold the series in high esteem, while its protagonist, Edward Carnby, is hardly as iconic as his nearest counterparts in Leon S. Kennedy or James Sunderland.
Mikael Hedberg, however, is still very fond of Alone in the Dark, believing it to be...

The first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake was unveiled at the Playstation State Of Play event.
Blooper Team showcased the first trailer for their upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake during last night’s State of Play. It’s the first sign of life for the game since it was announced in 2022 and since the developers confirmed no major changes were being made to the narrative in early 2023.
Take a look at the Silent Hill 2 trailer below.
Disappointingly, there’s no release date attached to the trailer. Sony did previously promise that the game would arrive in 2024, but that remains to be seen.
The game will follow in the footsteps of the 2001 original. You will play as James Sunderland, who travels to Silent Hill, looking for his deceased wife Mary after receiving a letter that she is alive.

Disclaimer: Crunchyroll is an independently operated joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex. Today saw another PlayStation State of Play stream debut, bringing with it around 45 minutes of new and updated game info. Hideo Kojima was on hand for a double whammy—including more on Death Stranding 2 , which now sports the On The Beach subtitle, and a new espionage game called Physint . There's also a new Silent Hill game available to download for free. That's just scratching the surface, so let's take a look at some of the highlights from today's State of Play. Death Stranding 2 On The Beach is due out in 2025, and as usual you should expect more questions than answers in the extensive nine-minute cinematic trailer. If that's not enough Kojima for you, the Metal Gear Solid mastermind is returning to the action-espionage genre with Physint . In two years they'll be...
