Dexter: Original Sin has cast four new series regulars to join previously announced Patrick Gibson, who is taking over the titular serial killer role (in his younger years) made famous by Michael C. Hall in Showtime’s Dexter.
As production kicks off today in Miami with Clyde Phillips at the helm, James Martinez, Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love) and Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist) have joined the series portraying younger versions of Og characters.
Martinez plays Angel Batista (originally portrayed by David Zayas), an up-and-coming homicide detective who leads with his heart; Milian plays Maria Laguerta (Luna Lauren Velez), Miami Metro’s first female homicide detective; and Shimizu plays Vince Masuka (C.S. Lee), a forensic analyst who eagerly shares his expertise while relishing the chance to boss around his new intern, Dexter Morgan.

Many people have dreams of being an actor, sometimes in film and sometimes in television roles.
Some actors fall into the opportunity through lots of auditions, training, and from knowing the right people. But others get their start by becoming a famous name first.
Athletes are often in the public eye, gaining a following for being good at their chosen sport. Once they retire from their profession, some continue to grow their popularity through other ventures.
Many athletes turn to acting, whether through television advertisements and commercials like Coach Prime, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, and Kevin Durant.
Other athletes like Travis Kelce, Pat McAfee, Deion Sanders (Prime), and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. do podcasts to attract a following.

The road to movie stardom for Dwayne Johnson is one of the unlikeliest in recent memory. A third-generation professional wrestler known the world over as “The Rock,” Johnson nabbed a supporting role in 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and made such an impression that he starred in a successful stand-alone film, “The Scorpion King,” the very next year.
As his film career progressed, it became evident that, despite his success in action films, Johnson had a distinct flair for comedy, which he began to show off in such films as “Be Cool” (2005), “Central Intelligence” (2016), “Moana” (2016) and in his biggest-grossing film, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (2017). One of the most recent was “Jungle Cruise” (2021) for Disney.
But it’s in high-concept action cinema that Johnson has found his greatest success, especially after hopping aboard the highly lucrative “Fast and Furious” franchise. He even got his own spin-off adventure, “Hobbs & Shaw” (2019), which...

There’s no doubt that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is an A-list star. The professional wrestler turned actor started making waves thanks to The Mummy Returns as the Scorpion King. Terrible effects aside, that skyrocketed him into different roles, and slowly, but surely, Johnson was one of the most well-known names in the mainstream. Johnson was very experimental early in his career; bouncing between comedy (Be Cool), drama (Gridiron Gang), horror (Doom), family (The Game Plan), and Thriller (Southland Tales). We got to see Johnson in sentimental affairs that proved his dramatic chops thanks to films like The Gridiron Gang. His...

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.
The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”
The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”

This Summer, A few hours before the release of her second album, Surrender, Maggie Rogers paused for a moment onstage at New York’s Webster Hall. She’d just performed the album’s loudest, angriest track, “Shatter,” when she proclaimed: “I need a shot.” She’s so real for that. The half-joke worked, as a plastic cup of tequila made its way from the venue’s back bar through a crowd of people dressed in white to Rogers, who downed it, seeming bemused yet grateful.

The early Noughties were a verdant time for chart pop. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera couldn’t put a musical foot wrong, and it seemed easier than ever to launch a young woman with a catchy song into the stratosphere. One of those hopefuls was Christina Milian, bursting into the charts and our collective cultural memory with bubblegum-adjacent hits like “Am to Pm” and the sultry “Dip It Low”. Twenty years later with the days of low-rise jeans and whale tail thongs a distant dream, she’s hoping for a different kind of success in Lionsgate+’s dance-school drama Step Up.
Pop hadn’t reached the point of sincere critical evaluation when Milian released her first record in 2001, but it held a power over the masses that seems to have ebbed a little in the years since. As the decade wore on, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Destiny’s Child defined...

Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.

The original Viper Room is fading to black.
In its place will be a 12-story mixed-use high rise at the corner of Sunset and Larrabee in West Hollywood. The development, which was announced today, will include a re-designed music venue, recording studio space, eateries, cafes, retail space, housing units and a hotel. According to the project’s web site, memorabilia from the original Viper Room will be featured throughout the venue.
“8850 Sunset makes possible the rebirth of this iconic music venue, preserving it for generations to come,” notes the web site, which bills the development as, at once, a “Global destination” and “local landmark.”
Construction is expected to begin next year on the high-density project named after its address at 8850 Sunset, according to Los Angeles-based Silver Creek Development, which bought the property about four years ago.

Look, not every month is gonna be full of bangers. Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for March 2022 is extremely light but still has a couple of good options for streaming obsessives.
The biggest title this month is undoubtedly The Boys Presents: Diabolical on March 4. This series presents eight different stories set in The Boys‘ universe, all offered up by different writers. Since each of the eight mini-episodes are animated, it’s probably fair to say this is The Boys‘ Animatrix. Call it the “Anivought”.

Also arriving on March 4 is season 2 of the high concept comedy Upload. Set in a digital afterlife, this series created by The Office‘s Greg Daniels asks some big questions about where technology is taking us.

‘Last Looks’ Review: It’s Weird Beard Time for Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson in Shaggy L.A. Whodunit
It takes some nerve casting a scandal-embattled star like Mel Gibson as a colorful TV celebrity suspected of killing his wife. Those who’ve stood by Gibson despite multiple attempts by the actor to sabotage his own career will likely admire the chutzpah of “Last Looks,” even if his flamboyantly named (and mustachioed) Alastair Pinch — a borderline-blotto, Colonel Sanders-looking Southern judge on a show called “Johnnie’s Bench” — is just a side character (the main suspect) in an overcrowded Hollywood detective story that’s got gimmicks to burn.
The ringmaster of this three-ring circus is one Charlie Waldo, a disgraced former LAPD golden boy with even wilder facial hair than Pinch. It’s like a pandemic beard, minus the pandemic.
A few years earlier, Waldo went off the grid after realizing he couldn’t undo the wrongful conviction that launched his career. Where’s Waldo now? Living in self-imposed exile — or “extraction,...

When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.
Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

The answer to this question really depends on who a person asks since some would say that yes, height does matter in a big way, no pun intended, while others might say that no, of course, it doesn’t matter since talent is what directors really look for, not who’s taller and who’s shorter. The most confounding answer is that they’re all right since size does and doesn’t matter in Hollywood as it’s kind of a conditional thing. One memory springs to mind when talking about size, and that’s from the movie Be Cool with Danny DeVito and John Travolta, among

If you want to view paradise, just look around… and imagine Dwayne Johnson in a top hat. Indeed, somewhere out there in the multiverse, moviegoers got exactly that when Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opened in 2005. For while frequent Burton collaborator Johnny Depp eventually won the role in that movie, Johnson has now revealed he was considered for the part back in the days when he was better known as the Rock.
“Some cool history – back in the early 2000’s, iconic director, Tim Burton had considered me to play Willy Wonka [in] his remake, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Johnson said on Instagram. In the post, Johnson was revealing how much his children love the 1971 classic film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is getting into the spirit with a number of horror or Halloween-themed offerings on its October line-up.
Along with Hulu originals like the horror anthology “Into the Dark” and the second season of Stephen King’s “Castle Rock,” the streamer is also offering films from the “Saw,” “Blade” and “Hellraiser” franchises beginning next month. For the more faint of heart, Hulu is also offering three seasons of Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” and the surely adorable “Kids Halloween Baking Championship.”
Not specifically Halloween-themed, but potentially haunting: All six seasons of the original run of “The Hills” will be available to stream on Oct. 1 for those looking to revisit the halcyon days of reality television and questionable late-aughts fashion.

Amazon is out with its list of new additions coming to Prime Video next month, and you’ll want to mark your calendar for the epic musical finale of “Transparent,” coming Sept. 27.
“Chris Tall Presents…” — the first unscripted German Amazon Original which features six episodes of the comedian performing stand-up and introducing his friends as guests — will premiere at a date still to be determined. The same is the case for “Family Man,” a new Amazon Original series which, according to the streaming giant, tells the story of a middle-class man who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency.
Other Prime Originals include the first seasons of “El Corazón de Sergio Ramos,” about the Spanish soccer player, and the animated series “Undone.” “Rango,” “Legally Blonde” and “Saturday Night Fever” are among some of the already released movies that will now be available on Prime.

Looking at a body of work that includes everything from a classic comedy (“Friday”) to hostage thrillers (“The Negotiator”) to high-octane franchise tentpoles (“The Fate of the Furious”), the subject matter of F. Gary Gray’s movies seems to share little in common from one to the next. But the invisible throughline that connects them all is Gray’s remarkable aptitude for finding the least likely actor imaginable and plugging them into an unforgettable role.
From gangsta rapper Ice Cube as a genial straight man in “Friday” to Dwayne Johnson as a gay bodyguard-turned-wannabe actor in “Be Cool” to Charlize Theron as a ruthless cyberterrorist in “Fate of the Furious,” Gray has repeatedly given actors opportunities they’ve never had before, not just challenging them to expand their repertoire, but also changing the way audiences see them on screen.

Claire Denis and André Benjamin might not be the most obvious of collaborators, but the French auteur has wanted to make a movie with the Outkast performer for some time now — so much so, in fact, that she was willing to fly to Atlanta to make it happen. She explained as much during a screening of “High Life,” her evocative new sci-fi film co-starring the musician and actor: “I always liked André 3000,” she said. “I always liked OutKast, and I had this idea, if one day I do a film in English and I can cast American people I would like to meet André Benjamin and ask him.”
There was only one problem: His people weren’t into the idea. “His agent said, ‘No no no. Only if you come to meet him in Atlanta.’” Denis did that, presumably while listening to “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” on repeat, determined to make it work.

It’s kind of difficult to really pick out the best films of Dwayne Johnson’s career since he does have a few, but there are those that obviously won’t make this list like The Scorpion King, Snitch, or even Be Cool. He’s a likable character in just about any movie he’s in whether he’s a friendly guy or not, but Dwayne Johnson is by and large one of the most swiftly rising superstars in Hollywood and has kind of become the same caliber of actor that Arnold Schwarzenegger once was before he gained a career in politics. Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that several of its original series will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in August, including the first season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.” John Krasinski, who is red-hot following the success of his winter hit “A Quiet Place,” takes on the role of the CIA spy that has been played on the big screen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.
Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first appearances on Amazon Prime Video including the action comedy “Gringo,” which stars David Oyelowo as a businessman who unwittingly becomes involved with a Mexican drug cartel.
Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month. We’ve done some digging and unearthed a few titles that will be exiting Amazon Prime Video in the first week of August. News...

However, Johnson is fully back in action hero-mode in his 2018 movie, “Rampage,” where he plays a primatologist whose beloved albino gorilla is being used in an experiment that turns him into a raging beast...

From college football to the WWE to A-list movie stardom, Dwayne Johnson has had quite the career.
After several years gaining fame as the Rock in professional wrestling, Johnson landed his first leading film role in 2002’s historical fantasy “The Scorpion King,” following parts in “The Mummy Returns” and “Longshot.” More roles soon followed, including box office failure but cult favorite “The Rundown,” “Be Cool,” and “Doom.”
One of his most famous roles, however, came in 2011, appearing for the first time as Luke Hobbs in “Fast Five.” He would continue to appear in all the “Fast & Furious” films that followed, including the most recent, “The Fate of the Furious.” His character is such a fan favorite that Universal is currently developing a spinoff focusing on Hobbs and Jason Statham’s character.
In recent years, Johnson has found even more success with high-profile blockbusters. In 2015, he fronted the big-budget disaster film “San Andreas,...

Good movies tend to have solid taglines. Bad movies almost always have questionable taglines. Coincidence?
Taglines may not be the most important component of a film’s advertising, but having a good one can be beneficial. A good tagline should be something that is memorable, catchy, informative of the films’ plot or tone, and unique. Consider the tagline from Alien, “In space no one will hear you scream,” or Jurassic Park, “An adventure 65 million years in the making.” At other times, movie taglines have been famous quotes from the film. Examples are “One ring to rule them all,” from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, or “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy,” from The Shining. Simply put, having a solid movie tagline is worth the effort.
This is a look at a few films where the effort was clearly lacking or misplaced. Sometimes they are trying too hard.
