Bigfoots or Sasquatches, these creatures that straddle the line between man and beast are a captivating blend of mystery and fascination. Picture cavemen of colossal stature, untouched by the need to shave their skin. That’s your typical bigfoot. These enigmatic beings have also found their way into the spotlight of cinema, becoming iconic movie stars in their own right.
While they may have fewer film representations than their arctic counterparts, the yeti, Bigfoot has left an indelible mark on Hollywood. Whether these creatures were scene stealers or the main attraction, the Sasquatch has carved a unique place in cinema history. Each character brings a distinct perspective to the mythos, from the terrifying and elusive family of beasts in the newly released Sasquatch Sunset to the misunderstood and gentle Mr. Link. They know how to bust a move, look for their own, and fly! Yes, fly.

Jack Black recently told the news outlet Joe, while making the press rounds for “Kung Fu Panda 4,” that he is more than ready to make a sequel to “School of Rock,” the 2003 comedy classic that was directed by Richard Linklater and written by Mike White. Black has stayed close with his younger co-stars over the years, but a movie sequel has never gotten off the ground. “School of Rock” was adapted into a hit Broadway musical, but perhaps it’s time to get the band back together on the big screen.
“I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo,'” Black said, referencing the 1984 sequel to the dance musical “Breakin’.” The comedian added: “I’m ready.”
“You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius,” Black continued. “And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he...

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released from Shout! Factory on February 13th, 2024.
Jack Black is among my favorite comedic leading men. The first film I ever reviewed was School of Rock for my high school newspaper. His physical delivery is unmatched, and he’s able to make nearly every character, no matter how absurd, feel relatable and approachable. Despite my adoration for the man, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny had evaded me for eighteen long years. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Shout! Factory, that’s all changed.

I was twenty-years-old when Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released to theaters. That’s seemingly the perfect age for an R-rated comedy comprised of utter silliness and rock-and-roll.

Jack Black has been in his fair share of hit movies over the years, from "School of Rock" to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and everything in between. The man has been a bonafide movie star for decades. But even the biggest stars have to suffer a misfire every once in a while and, for Black, one of his biggest misfires was also a very personal endeavor. 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" brought the rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass to the big screen with initially disastrous results. Yet, time has been kind to the film as it has become a true cult favorite.
Black recently spoke about the film's legacy in the latest issue of Total Film magazine. The actor described "Pick of Destiny" as his baby. Not only because it's the only movie he wrote personally, but because it was based on an emotional truth,...

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Jack Black confirmed in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that he’s planning to reunite with his younger “School of Rock” co-stars later this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the comedy’s release. Various cast members have reunited over the years, but it sounds like Black is plotting an epic reunion to celebrate 20 years of “School of Rock.”
“All those kids — dig this — they were 10 years old when we made that movie and now they’re all, like, 30,” Black said. “We’re gonna get together and have a 20-year anniversary. We like to jam. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the grownups from ‘School of Rock.'”
Black added that he will “100 percent” use social media to upload photos and videos from the upcoming reunion. “School Rock,” directed by Richard Linklater and written by “The White Lotus” creator Mike White, starred Black as Dewey Finn,...

In true Jack Black fashion, the veteran comedic actor somersaulted his way onstage in a panda suit — seemingly in a tribute to his iconic “Kung Fu Panda” character Po — to accept the MTV Movie & TV Awards’ Comedic Genius Award.
“I don’t deserve this but I will take it,” Black said. “Thank you, MTV. This is for all the ‘School of Rock-ers’ out there, and for all the ‘Tenacious D-sciples’ and, most of all, my amazing wife Tanya [Haden] and our two incredible boys, I love you.”
The “Nacho Libre” star began his short and sweet speech joking about all of the films he’s been in: “Are you kidding? For what? ‘School of Rock,’ ‘Jumanji,’ ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ ‘Goosebumps,’ ‘Nacho Libre,’ ‘Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny,’ my sweet dance moves on TikTok? What are we talking about? It’s ridiculous!” he said, which prompted huge cheers from the audience.

In music’s metal subculture, the late singer Ronnie James Dio may still count as the genre’s most widely beloved figure, which makes him ripe for a documentary. He was almost completely uncontroversial, which doesn’t necessarily bode as well for such a treatment. The dude who popularized the so-called “devil horns” hand gesture was no demon. He just played one on MTV, or at least enjoyed dragging out the sinister imagery, even if in in real life he came off as a friendly upstate New York guy who’d made it big with a penchant for vaguely mystic imagery and a mountain-king-sized voice that could fill the biggest halls.
“Dio: Dreamers Never Die,” the latest in a series of effective, mostly unpretentious rock docs produced by BMG, doesn’t present its subject as a particularly tortured or even complicated guy. It may be the most drugless documentary ever...

Like many brilliant women throughout cinema history who toil in obscurity before eventually being recognized for their greatness, it took some of us a while to notice Amy Adams. After all, Adams wasn’t always enjoying the kinds of starry, awards-friendly roles she is now more or less synonymous with. For some time, Adams was competing for screentime with male co-stars who happened to be comedy icons (“Talladega Nights”) and getting cast in such illustrious parts like “Gorgeous Woman” in mid-tier farces (“Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny”).

Longtime producer Stuart Cornfeld, 67, died June 26 of cancer, but left a mark on Hollywood with collaborations with iconic directors and a run of hit movies dating back to 1980.
As a film student at the AFI Conservatory in the 1970s he worked with Anne Bancroft, who went on to introduce him to Mel Brooks. Cornfeld was an assistant on Brooks’ 1977 comedy “High Anxiety,” and the two men teamed as executive producers on David Lynch’s 1980 “The Elephant Man.”
Cornfeld went on to produce David Cronenberg’s “The Fly,” which put the Canadian body-horror master on the map. Cornfeld also produced Steven Soderbergh’s “Kafka,” the young filmmaker’s first movie after the 1989 indie sensation “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Mimic,” and the Vince Gilligan-scripted “Wilder Napalm.”

We look at the eclectic career of one of Hollywood's most beloved character actors, John C. Reilly.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
As an actor, John C. Reilly is exceptionally difficult to pin down. The Academy Award-nominated actor has worked with filmmakers ranging from Paul Thomas Anderson to Judd Apatow. Currently in awards contention again for his turn as Oliver Hardy in Stan & Ollie, he’s always been brilliant at both comedic and dramatic roles.
Going at least as far back as Will Ferrell and Jack Black’s "A Comedian At The Oscars" number at the 2007 Academy Awards, Reilly’s formidable range has long been celebrated. How do we know that real actors can do both comedy and drama? John C. Reilly, that’s how. After all, he “chose to be in both Boogie and Talladega Nights!”

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, the first and so far only film adventure of Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ rock band, is an underrated movie and a heartfelt tribute to rock 'n' roll that fulfills its purpose of making you laugh, while also delivering a very memorable soundtrack that has some of the band’s best songs. That initial sequence told through the song "Kickapoo", about the childhood of the rocker black sheep of a religious family, is perfect to exemplify the worth of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny as a comical "rock opera", even with cameos by Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio himself. Almost 12 years after the premiere of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,...

Jack Black and Kyle Gass' 2006 movie Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny was a fun and ridiculous movie that seemed like a one and done kind of thing. It was a product of its time when the actual band Tenacious D was at their peak of popularity. Also, the movie completely bombed at the box office and only made $13.9 million on a budget of $20 million. You'd think that fact alone would guarantee that a sequel would never be made.
But, according to Jack Black, there's a sequel in development and it will be coming out in October. The news comes from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Black told them:
“I don’t know where you’ll be able to see it, but we have decided that it’s happening and it’s coming out.”
There are absolutely no other details on the film project or any info on the story,...

Meat Loaf has come a long way since his acting debut in the 1975 classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He’s appeared in countless films and television shows including “The 51st State,” “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,” “Monk,” “Glee,” and “House, M.D,” among others. He’s also a Grammy Award winner and has sold more than 80 million records worldwide – but don’t call him a musician (more on that later).
Speaking with The A.V. Club, Meat Loaf revealed that “Fight Club” was one of his favorite movies that he’s been a part of because David Fincher let him take part in the directing process.
The actor portrayed Robert “Bob” Paulson, a former body builder who due to his excessive use of steroids got testicular cancer, and at times helped the director pick key takes.

Never fear, Jack Black is still rocking on. The actor's band Tenacious D revealed on social media, Sunday, that their Twitter account had been hacked and a message had been sent out saying that Black had died. "We had our Twitter account hacked," Tenacious D wrote on Facebook. "We can assure you that Jack is Alive and Well and that this was a sick 'prank.' " The tweets in question have been deleted, but screengrabs from Diffuser.fm show that in the early morning hours someone wrote, "I'm sad to officially annouce[sic] the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother,...

Ben Stiller's professional onscreen career is officially turning 30 this year — that's roughly 412 in comedian years. In a business where funny people tend to quickly exhaust their limited charm and sink from telling jokes to becoming a punchline, the restless and versatile Stiller has managed to sustain one of the most consistent comic careers this side of Bob Hope. From his days as a bit player to his later emergence as a force of nature in front of the camera and behind the scenes (you have his production company Red...

Having commissioned the pilot episode of The Brink – a half-hour dark political comedy – last year, HBO has now ordered the show to series, with Tim Robbins and Jack Black heading the cast.
The show centres around the main players caught in a geo-political crisis. Tim Robbins plays the Us Secretary of State, Walter Hollander, who has little patience for war-mongers, while Jack Black plays Alex Coppins – a Foreign Service Officer dealing with the crisis in the field. A third main role – that of a Navy fighter pilot – has yet to be cast, although the wider cast list includes Aasif Mandvi and Meera Syal. The pilot was written by brothers Roberto and Kim Benabib – Roberto having previously worked on Ally McBeal and Weeds. Both will also serve as executive producers, alongside stars Black and Robbins, Jerry Weintraub (Behind The Candelabra) and Jay Roach (The Austin Powers franchise, The Campaign), who also directed the pilot.

James is off to never never-land, as he considers Metallica: Through The Never and the band's appearances in the movies...
A Metallica movie? Oh yeah? Say f*ck yeah, James! I'm there and I'm throwing up heavy metal horns and headbanging like a maniac. Unfortunately, trying to watch a film and simultaneously make moshpit movements is a tricky feat to pull off.
It raises a distressing dilemma: "to rock out or not to rock out?" It's a little like those moments where you're enjoying a musical and can't resist singing along, except with the Headbanger Hamlet question, there's little chance of you being able to follow what's happening on screen.
You can't properly appreciate, say, the cinematography and nuanced depth of the acting performances with blurred vision and flailing hair in your eyes. Also, as unfortunate possible side effects, you can end up...

Drugs are bad. Everybody knows that. They ruin lives, strike at the very heart of society and, worst of all, give rise to that most tedious of movie genres, the stoner comedy. But c’mon, who doesn’t love a good, old fashioned freak out?
Not only does it often provide a film’s funniest, finest or most frightening moment, but, rather like a dream sequence, a freak out gives the director the perfect excuse to throw in all kinds of crazy stuff that would otherwise look out of place. It also guarantees repeat viewing from, shall we say, an appreciative cult audience.
Listed below, for your sweet delectation, are twelve of the most surreal drug scenes ever captured on screen. And remember, they’re getting tweaked off their gourd so that you don’t have to.

There’s been quite a bit of news about Amazon’s Zombieland series over the past few weeks. Columbus and Little Rock were cast first, then came the ever-sassy Wichita. Now, finally, they have a gruff, Twinkie-loving leader.
Kirk Ward, who has worked in movies as varied as The Island, Forrest Gump, and Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, will star as Tallahassee, Deadline reports.
“Original Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the pilot and executive produce with the movie’s producer, Gavin Polone. I hear Reese and Wernick, who conceived Zombieland as a TV show, originally had Ward in mind for Tallahassee after meeting the actor while shooting the William Shatner-starring Spike TV limited series Invasion Iowa,” Deadline said.

[This week's "Retro Active" pick is inspired by the hair metal-loving '80s-era musical Rock of Ages.]
"When The Pick of Destiny was released, it was a bomb / And all the critics said that The D was done," croons Jack Black at the outset of his and partner Kyle Gass' new Tenacious D album Rize of the Fenix—a jokey admission of failure that's at once accurate (the film tanked at the box office) and yet sells the D's sole cinematic offering more than a bit short. Hitting theaters in 2006 thanks largely to Black's emergence as a big-screen star, Liam Lynch's musical odyssey neither fully satisfied the faithful nor roped in new loyalists, in part due to a script (by Black, Gass and Lynch) that was light on memorable one-liners and an original soundtrack that wasn't as consistently catchy as the group's superior self-titled 2001 debut album. In hindsight, however, the fate of this adaptation of Black and Gass' short-lived HBO comedy series...

Jack Black, for the all the success he's had in films like "The School Of Rock" or the "Kung Fu Panda" movies, is no stranger to flops. "Year One" anybody? How about "Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny"? But it seems one much more recent movie is an effort that the actor views as one of the lowest points of his career on stage or in front of the camera.
Teaming with his Tenacious D buddy Kyle Gass to speak with Canada's Exclaim for their monthly questionnaire, Black was candid when he was asked about his career low point. "God, there's been a few lately. What's the lowest of the low? I guess my career nadir was probably that bird watching movie ['The Big Year'] that came out a couple months ago," he said. "I know it was good but, career-wise, when no one goes to see a movie that you're in...

Though fans of rock will know Dave Grohl as the frontman for Foo Fighters and the drummer for Nirvana, the musician has also had a couple big screen roles in the form of Satan in Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny and as Animool, the knock-off Animal from The Moopets in last year's The Muppets. Well, now the musician is going behind the camera for a new documentary taking a look at Sound City, the iconic recording studio in Van Nuys, California where talents like Rage Against the Machine, Fleetwood Mac, Tomy Petty, Neil Young, Nirvana and more recorded some of their most revered music there. Here's just a taste of the documentary Sound City from Dave Grohl: Grohl's history with the studio goes back to the 1991 recording of Nirvana's album Nevermind (you know, the one with the swimming, naked baby) and he told Variety, "Sound City...

Now that everyone has seen (and loved) the star-studded Tenacious D comeback video "To Be the Best," it's time to listen to the first single from their new album, the title track for "Rize of the Fenix." The album from is set to be released on May 15.
The rock comedy duo's first movie, 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny," is now considered a cult classic by many, but it's largely viewed as a bomb -- it made a total of only $8.2 million, even at the height of D frontman Jack Black's box office power. But the band is embracing the theme of resurrection on their new album, and the title track is entirely devoted to earning back the good name of the band, who first earned fame with an HBO series and Dust Brothers-produced rock album.

It's been six long years since the last Tenacious D album, but Jack Black and Kyle Gass are back, hoping to put Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny behind them. The rebelliously-phonetic Rize of the Fenix is set for May 15, as the thunder gods put in their earplugs. In a new promotional video for Fenix entitled "To Be the Best," the D catch us up on their recent past, under the guise of an Extra piece hosted by Maria Menounos. We learn that Black has gone Hollywood, while his old partner Gass obsesses over him in an institution. And we see the pivotal role that that ol' huckleberry Val Kilmer plays in the duo's reunion. And that's not all. An epic, war-ending, seventeen-day hug leads to a Rocky III-esque training montage and flying on a giant eagle, in true D fashion. The boys [...]...

It's official. After watching Tenacious D's new short film/music video "To Be The Best," even skeptics who were let down by "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" will agree that The D is back.

But until then, they made this short for audiences to catch up on Kg and Jb since the relative failure of "The Pick of Destiny." And it isn't pretty. There's nothin' better than seeing a head explode on the big screen. Head explosions are always a dementedly fun little movie shock. YouTube user iiAFX has created a video montage showing off 61 head explosions from 61 different films. It's safe to say that this video is Nsfw and if you have kids I would suggest not watching it in front of them because exploding heads are considered extremely bloody and violent. This video is just ridiculous, but if exploding heads is your thing then you're sure to enjoy it! Check it out and tell us what you think!

Here's one from the annals of amusing anecdotes: It's difficult to underscore what a huge Elvis Costello fan I am. To own everything that Elvis Costello has recorded is to possess your own miniature music library. An iPhone cannot even hold it all. His music has also played central to many of those momentous occasions in my life, and when I began this very site, I worked under a pseudonym briefly, Will Declan (the last name borrowed from Elvis Costello's real first name). Those that know me also know that I've attached his name to my, er, legacy in an even more significant way.
In June 2005, while I was on my honeymoon on Florence, Italy, I had the fortunate misfortune of meeting Elvis Costello briefly. My wife and I were sitting in an outdoor cafe when who but Mr. Costello would stumble upon that very cafe and sit behind...

Doctor Who and Psychoville end, Mock The Week returns, and the marvellous Role Models is on the telly. Here's our UK TV week preview...
Saturday brings Doctor Who fans both great anticipation and a bit of reluctance for its arrival, as it means possible resolutions of some of our most fierce speculations about the show, at the same time as it leaves us for the entirety of the summer, returning in the autumn.
The mid-series finale, A Good Man Goes To War, airs at 6:40pm, Saturday, June 4th on BBC1. We've had video and images hinting at its contents, but nothing concrete has been revealed, leaving possibilities of Tardis interior proportions.
We'll have our review up as fast as fingers can make it happen, and we'll be anxious to read the comments of those, like us, who've followed this sixth series closely and are still mystified at what will happen Saturday.

Date of Assessment: May 25, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Frat pack, voice work
Negative Buzzwords: Limited range, annoying
The Case: Not too terribly long ago, Dustin predicted that, between Year One and Gulliver's Travels, Jack Black's career would almost certainly soon be over. One can only hope this is the case, for any actor who has appeared in such classics as Bongwater, Johnny Skidmarks, and some straight-to-video movie called Laser Fart shouldn't have achieved the mainstream Hollywood success that Jack Black has somehow enjoyed until recently.
And yet...
About ten years ago, Jack Black had already been puttering around Hollywood for a good decade or so, but it was High Fidelity that really brought him mainstream attention. And although High Fidelity is a film beloved by many (and has spawned many mixtapes), it inadvertently kick started Black's ascent into quasi-superstardom. Soon after, he was...

Okay, when we first read John C. Reily might be in The Hunger Games, we couldn’t imagine it. The man played Sasquatch in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny! Then again, Reilly also has an Oscar-nomination for Chicago, so maybe we can average the two and come out with the perfect lumbering, bear-like role for him to play. According to New York Mag, the Cyrus star is in talks to portray Haymitch Abernathy, the gruff, usually inebriated mentor to Jennifer Laurence’s Katniss and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta, as well as the only living Hunger Games winner from District 12. We just hope people will get past Reilly’s comic persona from movies like Step Brothers, and remember the pitiful oafs he played in The Hours, Year of the Dog, and…well, basically every other film he’s ever been in. Actually, now that we think of it, Haymitch...

[1] You may think you've never heard of Matt Walsh, but odds are, you've seen his work before. Walsh is probably best known as one of the founders of the Upright Citizens Brigade, and he's also appeared in supporting roles in tons of films (Elf, Bad Santa, Role Models, Mystery Team, Cyrus, every comedy Todd Phillips has ever done) and television shows (Childrens Hospital, Outsourced, Party Down, Human Giant, Reno 911!, The Daily Show). In short, while he's not quite as famous as some of his colleagues, it's safe to say he has a pretty solid comedy resume. Now Walsh is taking on a slightly different kind of role: director. His first feature is High Road, a stoner comedy featuring a bevy of well-known comedians. Watch the red band trailer after the jump. High Road revolves around a drug dealer/musician with a pregnant girlfriend who's forced to run when one of his deals goes bad.

With the release of M. Night Shayamalan’s Devil on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday, Owf was challenged with chronicling the ten greatest performances by an actor/actress as the lord of the underworld!
Shayamalan’s horror/thriller – which sees a group of people trapped in an elevator begin to realise that the Devil is amongst them… – is one of the haphazard director’s better offerings of late and engages an interesting narrative.
However, the Devil, Lucifer, Satan, Mephistopheles (or whatever you want to call the epitome of evil!) have featured in film from as early as 1896 and a variety of talent has portrayed the character. Whether it has been for comedic effect or to generate fear in an audience, there have been some fantastic performances within the role. Below are, in my opinion, the ten best. Of course, as there have been no less than 725 known productions featuring the Prince of Darkness,...
