If there’s anyone who knows about the dog days of summer, it’s gotta be Snoopy, right? The nighttime fireworks, the ice-cream hangs, PigPen testing the chlorinated cleansing power of the public pool. It’s almost enough to help ya forget that the temps are somewhere between 90 and “Everything Burns” degrees outside in most places. Apple TV+ Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, including vacation, and while some parents are surely counting the hours until they can have a little peace and quiet, there’s way more kids dreading the loss of these final days of freedom to that monstrous entity known as “Back-to-school ads.” And as you can see in the exclusive first-look clip from the cartoon above, it’s hard to blame them! Thankfully, there is Lucy’s School, a brand-new animated special celebrating not just the power for friendships forged amid all of the lockers,...

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. The world's gone mad. Fortunately for FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), he's been able to sit out most of the real-life insanity of the last 25 years. Unfortunately—as surely known by those viewers familiar with Mark Frost and David Lynch's singular television series Twin Peaks, which returned Sunday, May 21st for a limited, 18-episode run on Showtime—that's because he's been trapped in the unearthly purgatory known as the Black Lodge, all while his devilish doppelgänger, a mortal manifestation of the murderous spirit known as Killer Bob, runs amok among mankind.Already it feels like I'm speaking in tongues. But if Twin Peaks and Lynch (who directed, co-wrote, co-edited, and designed the sound for all of these new episodes) have taught us anything,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen Sunday's two-hour Twin Peaks premiere.
Twin Peaks returned to TV on Sunday after 27 years and it was every bit as scary, twisted and confusing as the original -- though we expected nothing less from David Lynch.
In the two-hour premiere, there were two distinct threads happening: one with the show's original characters and one featuring new faces and new mysteries. They eventually intersected, but for much of the first hour it was a lot of introducing seemingly unrelated things, most of which were happening outside the titular small Washington town.

It's happening again.
It's the first time we've see the Twin Peaks logo and heard the opening notes of Angelo Badalamenti's unforgettable theme song in 25 years. When it happens, we're looking right at the face of Laura Palmer. Sure, Kara Danvers might be able to cook meat with her eyes, punch through the roof of a car without blinking and freeze anything in her path just by breathing on it — but she’s still just your average feminist.

People were generally divided into two schools of thought on HBO’s solemn, mysterious drama The Leftovers. Either you appreciated it as a thoughtful examination of grief and loss, or you dismissed it as an overwrought exercise in misery porn. And though its ratings weren’t anything to write home about, HBO did renew the show for a second season, so showrunners Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta will have another chance to engage viewers. Intriguingly, they’ll be changing things up quite a bit in order to do so.
According to Deadline, The Leftovers will be leaving the town of Mapleton behind to an as-of-yet unknown new setting. Part and parcel with that, multiple characters who played a role in the first season won’t be returning. Out of the 14 stars of the first season, only the leads are set to reprise their roles. Talk about a defining moment.
On last night's episode of HBO's The Leftovers, we got to see what life was like in Mapleton before Oct. 14 – that life-changing day when millions disappeared. Turns out things weren't all that bad, but they were headed there fast.
Kevin (not yet Chief) Garvey
He wasn't in charge yet, but Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) had a lot more going for him. That included a gorgeous home with his lovely psychiatrist wife Laurie (Amy Brenneman) and their happy-go-lucky tween daughter Jill (she actually used to sing and skip around!).
Even stepson Tom (Chris Zylka) comes around.

The penultimate first season episode of The Leftovers takes us back in time three years, to the days leading up to the Sudden Departure. And, although the hour shows us exactly what its title promises — “The Garveys at Their Best” — it also reveals the cracks in the foundation of the family that probably would’ve broken it up even if the world hadn’t been turned upside-down. Shall we rewind?

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I listen to a little Hall & Oates... "But there can't be any doubt, Laurie. Because doubt is fire. And fire is gonna burn you up, until you are but ash." -Patti Episode 3 of "The Leftovers" was the one most critics cited as the moment where they went all-in with the show, and the reaction from many of you suggested the same. Doing a single-pov story every week — especially one with as narrow a focus as "Two Boats and a Helicopter" — isn't an easy thing to pull off, nor does it seem like what Lindelof and Perrotta want to do, given the size and scope of the broken world they're depicting. But "Gladys" does a very effective job of splitting the difference between the tunnel vision of episode 3 and the broader ensemble pieces we've gotten in the other installments.

Back in October, MTV ordered two new comedy pilots: the pseudo-lesbian high school series Faking It, which earned a second season renewal in June, and Happyland, a soapy teen dramedy that dives into the not-so-glamorous behind-the-scenes reality of a popular theme park.
Set to premiere on September 30, Happyland stars Bianca Santos (of The Fosters) as Lucy, a cynical employee and daughter to the park’s perfect princess Elena (Camille Guaty). Desperate to escape the park’s brand of manufactured happiness, Lucy rethinks her desire to flee after the arrival of a new staff member—the son (Awkward’s Shane Harper...

HBO is hard at work on The Leftovers, an adaptation of the Tom Perrotta novel of the same name. The drama pilot will star Justin Theroux as a small town chief of police and father of two who is trying to maintain the status quo after the Biblical Rapture takes place. Today we can announce that Desperate Housewives twins Charlie and Max Carver have also joined the cast.
As previously announced, Carrie Coon will play Nora Durst, a woman whose husband and kids have vanished with the Rapture, leaving her behind to cope with the new world alone. Former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston will play Matt Jamison, a former reverend who know writes a self-published tabloid. Did he see any of this coming? It’s CastingPalooza over at Damon Lindelof‘s drama pilot The Leftovers for HBO. We told you earlier today about casting for another pilot, that one to be run by Lindelof’s former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse, but still, we’re always hesitant to talk too much about pilots. We’ve had our hearts broken too many times in the past by pilots that are never turned into series *cough* Locke & Key *cough* Mockingbird Lane *cough*.
Still, things are looking good for Cuse’s pilot, and with all the casting news lately, they’re looking similarly good for Lindelof. Joining the throng of actors who’ve signed up to be a Leftover are former elf Liv Tyler (the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. Yes, a Doctor for the Lindelof pilot, just as another Doctor has signed up for the Cuse pilot. Weird, right?

HBO is preparing to film a new drama pilot adapted from the Tom Perrotta novel, The Leftovers. In today’s news four actors sign on to the pilot, to be directed by Peter Berg, the man who also directed The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights and Battleship.
Writer and producer Damon Lindelof is behind The Leftovers. He was a co-creator, writer and co-executive producer for the cult series, Lost. He also served as a writer form Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness. Do we have your attention yet?
Deadline made the announcement this week about the deals closing for actors Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Christopher Eccleston and Amanda Warren. These four will appear in the pilot with star Justin Theroux.
The Leftovers promises to be an unusual take on the Rapture. It tells the story of the people who are left behind when the Rapture doesn’t go off the way most would suppose.

Co-written by Lindelof and Tom Perrotta based on Perrotta’s 2011 book, the project takes place after the Rapture happens but not quite like it’s supposed to. It is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut… and a world that will never be the same. Coon will play Nora Durst, a wife and mother who is suddenly neither. Sources said that Ed Friendly, producer of the 1970s Little House on the Prairie TV series who has long shepherded the film and TV rights to the Wilder books, is executive producing the ambitious project. Feature scribe Katie Ford, whose recent credits include Miss Congeniality and CBS' Lucille Ball biopic Lucy, is on board to pen the script; David Cunningham will direct, sources said. ABC declined to comment on the project Friday. It's understood that the mini will air under the Wonderful World of Disney telefilm banner, probably as a sweeps-month event.
