The Event Cinema Association has launched a new advisory committee to help raise the profile of event cinema worldwide.
The new Eca Advisory Committee contains nine members and four Eca staff members from the exhibition, distribution, public relations, marketing, cinema services and satellite transmission industries .

The fall festival rush is upon us. Locarno is currently ramping up. Venice has released their line-up and Thom Powers and the Toronto International Film Festival team have dropped a bomb with a previously unannounced new feature from powerhouse docu-provocateur Michael Moore. It is truly a miracle that the production of a film such as Moore’s upcoming Where To Invade Next (see still above) managed to go completely undetected by the filmmaking community until it was literally announced to world premiere at one of the largest film festivals in the world. Paris -- Sun will meet Sundance when Robert Redford heads to Cannes to fete the first anniversary of the Sundance Channel in Europe at the 26th annual Mipcom market among other sophisticated small screen stars, organizers Reed Midem said Tuesday.
Mipcom attendees will be able to get "Up Close and Personal" with the star who will participate in a media Q&A on Oct. 6th and discuss the Sundance Channel's plans to expand across the globe.
Gene Simmons will give marketgoers a French Kiss when he heads to the Croisette to promote his A&E reality show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" alongside former Playmate of the Year Shannon Tweed.
Fox International Channels will launch "The Walking Dead" with the show's exec producer Gale Anne Hurd and cast members Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Wayne Callies will be very much alive as they make their way down the Croisette to promote the new show.

Veteran actresses and fellow Oscar winners Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker are teaming up for a road trip comedy "Cloudburst," which Thom Fitzgerald is writing and directing for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.
The film will start shooting in July in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Although born in New Jersey, Fitzgerald is a long-time resident of Nova Scotia, and he's previously worked with Dukakis on such films as "The Event" and "3 Needles."
Dukakis and Fricker will play a couple, together for 30 years, who break out of a nursing home and head to Canada to get married, picking up a young, male hitchhiker along the way.
Fitzgerald also is producing with Doug Pettigrew. William Jarblum will exec produce.

TORONTO -- Thom Fitzgerald's The Event, which stars Parker Posey and Sarah Polley, has been set to open the 23rd Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Sept. 12, it was announced Wednesday. Fitzgerald's AIDS-themed drama, which also stars Olympia Dukakis and Jane Leeves, originally bowed at Sundance. Closing the festival Sept. 20 will be Denys Arcand's Cannes entry The Barbarian Invasions, which will open the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 4. The Atlantic festival lineup also includes Deepa Mehta's The Republic of Love, Sudz Sutherland's Love Sex and Eating the Bones and Alanis Obomsawin's Our Nationhood. The festival, which runs Sept. 12-20, will also screen 10 French films, among them Dominique Cabrera's A Wonderful Spell, Ben Levine's Reveil and Bernard Emond's 20h17 rue Darling, which bowed in Cannes.

TORONTO -- Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment and ThinkFilm on Wednesday said they had signed a three-picture home entertainment distribution deal for the United States and Canada, beginning with the DVD and home video release of The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, which Jodie Foster stars in and produced. That release will be followed by CTHE handling the video releases of World Traveler, starring Billy Crudup and Julianne Moore, and Merchant-Ivory's Mystic Masseur, starring James Fox and Om Puri. The distribution arrangement was brokered by ThinkFilm president Jeff Sackman and Benedict Carver, vp of acquisition for Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Newly launched ThinkFilm has offices in New York City and Toronto, and has a film release slate that includes Gus Van Sant's Gerry, The Event by Thom Fitzgerald, and Love in the Time of Money, by Peter Mattei.
