Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly one of the finest filmmakers of our time. But as much as he is a passionate filmmaker, he is also a passionate cinephile: having absorbed the best that contemporary cinema has to offer since childhood, Tarantino bases his work on the most recognizable tropes and directorial styles, creating a refined pop culture mishmash. And as a huge film buff, Tarantino shared a list of the 20 films he 'admires the most' in a conversation with Sky Movies in 2009.
20 Must-Watch Movies According to Tarantino
Before we get to the list itself, it's important to note that it's not in order of importance, but in alphabetical order. Except for the number one, because for Tarantino it is 'favorite movie that has come out in the last 17 years.' Besides, as he pointed out, this is one of the few movies he would personally dream of directing.

The list of movies Quentin Tarantino loves is as long as Uma Thurman’s toes. There are the expected ones, like those from Brian De Palma, Sergio Leone and Martin Scorsese, but then there are ones that might surprise even his most die-hard fans, such as Team America, Woody Allen’s Anything Else and, as it turns out, the 2003 version of Freaky Friday.
In a new oral history of Freaky Friday to commemorate the body-swap remake’s 20th anniversary, director Mark Waters remembers the Oscar winner approaching him and endlessly praising the big finale. “I love the House of Blues sequence just because it was kind of this big thing in my mind, building up to it, this thing I pitched about the Battle of the Bands. It was a lot of people, a lot of moving parts and to have it come together like it did was super cool.

Natalia Almada, who won best director at Sundance this year for her mesmerizing film “Users,” is eager to continue the cinematic journey she began in that work with plans to next explore the boundaries of human endurance and the desire to discover the unknown.
“Users,” which is screening at the Copenhagen Documentary Film Festival (Cph:dox) and Visions du Réel in Switzerland, is a visual essay about technology and progress, their often disastrous impact on the world, the wonders of nature and questions about what the future may hold. It is also a cinematic letter to her children.
Becoming a mother was one of the inspirations behind the film – to examine the changes that it brought to her life and the ways it made her look at the world differently, Almada says.
Having spent much of her childhood growing up on a farm in Sinaloa, Mexico, she never imagined having children in California’s Silicon Valley,...

After being put on the shelf by Amazon, Woody Allen’s “A Rainy Day in New York” is to be released in Italy in the fall via distributor Lucky Red, with other European territories also believed to have closed local distribution deals, a source familiar with the situation told Variety.
Following Amazon’s decision to halt the film’s release and cut ties with Allen, the romantic comedy starring Timothee Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Jude Law is now being sold by Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment, the source said, adding that other European deals had also been closed.

Compare the movies that have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards to those that have taken home Best Original Screenplay and you’ll find that, as often as not, the latter is the more impressive list. Sometimes they overlap, but when they don’t — “Pulp Fiction” and “Forrest Gump,” “Talk to Her” and “Chicago,” “Melvin and Howard” and “Ordinary People” — it almost feels like a tacit admission that the Academy is throwing a bone to the film that’ll be more fondly remembered than the ultimate winner.
It only makes sense, then, that any number of great filmmakers have been honored in this category without ever winning Best Director or Picture: Quentin Tarantino, Sofia Coppola, Spike Jonze. These wordsmiths are worth celebrating, and these are the best — and worst — of them since 2000.
17. “Crash” (2005)

Donald Trump did not prepare for a White House transition—or draft any kind of Election-Night speech—because the hyper-superstitious businessman was too afraid of “bad juju,” two of his former top aides reveal in a new book.
“Donald Trump is one of the most superstitious men that most people have ever met,” write former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and his former deputy, David Bossie, in Let Trump Be Trump: The Inside Story of His Rise to the Presidency.
So, come Nov. 8, 2016, Trump was unprepared to take over the presidency—on purpose, the authors maintain.

When asked about the representation of the Holocaust in Schindler’s List, Stanley Kubrick responded: “Think that’s about the Holocaust? That was about success, wasn’t it? The Holocaust is about 6 million people who get killed. Schindler’s List is about 600 who don’t. Anything else?” Similarly, the story of the Pentagon Papers concerns the United States government lying, for decades, to the world about the Vietnam War, at the cost of millions of lives. The Post is about the brave journalists who brought these lies to public light.
That focus-shift is significant, though whether it will even bother a viewer depends heavily on how their worldview aligns with that of director Steven Spielberg. People Explains: Who Is Alabama Senate Candidate Roy Moore — and Does He Still Have a Chance to Win?
Almost nothing about Roy Moore’s candidacy for Senate has been without controversy.
First, he challenged incumbent Luther Strange, who had been appointed to replace Jeff Sessions when he was tapped by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. Attorney General. During the primary, he waved a gun at an election eve campaign rally, lacked support from the Republican establishment and has called Islam a “false religion.”
But none of that scared off Alabama voters on Sept. 26, who supported Moore in the Republican primary runoff for Sessions’ vacated Senate seat.

It might seem like typecasting but some actors really need to stick to their strengths because otherwise it seems like they get a bit lost in the translation of a film. Anything else and he seems to crumble a bit or just try way too hard. He’s one of the funniest comedians alive and has created an entire list of movies that are enough to make people’s jaws ache from

(Aotn) From the moment one enters the loading bay at San Antonio Memorial Hospital’s emergency room it is clear that “The Night Shift” provides a pulse-racing, realistic medical drama, with a great deal of heart and soul.
For the past four seasons, the Night Shift’s team of doctors and nurses has been anything but ordinary, as they take great risks to save lives, often straddling the line between heroic and impulsive, but it’s always worth the effort.

We got our first major details for Captain Marvel at Comic-Con last month. We know the story will be set in the 90s and that Nick Fury will be involved with the story. It was also revealed that the Kree and Skrull war would tie into the story that is going to be told. Thanks to McU Exchange, we have some additional details on what else we might see in the film. These are just rumors at the moment, but it would be cool if they turned out to be true.
With Captain Marvel being absent from Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been wondering where this powerful character is when the Galaxy needs her the most. Since her big McU debut will be set in the 90s, it means that she would have been a superhero for about 20 years. You'd think she'd show up at some point! Apparently, her absence...

Carlo Di Palma and Woody AllenThe only thing more consistent than the quality of Carlo Di Palma’s cinematography is the routine variance of his work. Though his most prominent titles were primarily those done in collaboration with two key directors—Michelangelo Antonioni and Woody Allen—what he demonstrated over the course of his career, in these films and dozens more, revealed a remarkable exhibition of visual range. His decades-spanning career produced a gallery of fluctuating colors, lighting techniques, temperatures, movements, and tones. And more often than not, what he refined in this richly varying field proved to be a directly corresponding realization of profound psychological consequence.Born April 17, 1925 in Rome, the son of a camera repair man, Di Palma’s cinematic commencement went from focus operator on Neo-Realist essentials like Rome, Open City (1945) and Bicycle Thieves (1948) to serving various capacities on largely subpar Italian fare. A turning point came...

Comics creator Thom Zahler is known for his entertaining and insightful romantic and relationship comics, particularly Love and Capes, a superhero romance that starts with Superman-adjacent hero The Crusader deciding to tell his non-superpowered girlfriend the truth about his dual identities; and Long Distance, a tale about a couple who meet in an airport and have to figure out how to successfully have, you guessed it, a long distance relationship. Both books contain a healthy serving of shrewd commentary on human interactions and romance, but don’t sacrifice the fun of humor or pop culture references to the need for drama.
I appreciate these stories not only in themselves, but also because sometimes the medium of comics as a whole seems to be overshadowed by the all-encompassing, never-ending, and dramatically violent superhero stories of the Big Two, Marvel and DC. Don’t get me wrong – I love me some...

Its best episodes featured some of that stuff combined with unknowable David Lynch horror and oddness.
Fire Walk With Me immersed itself completely in the Lynchian side of Twin Peaks. I enjoy that film a great deal,...

Though Doug Liman has built much of his blockbuster filmography on memorable action set-pieces, from The Bourne Identity all the way through Edge of Tomorrow, his earlier work (Swingers, Go) speaks to a more efficient, character-driven filmmaker. His new picture The Wall feels like a little bit of both. We got a chance to chat with the director about the film, the intricate design of the titular wall and how he deals with his short attention span while making movies.
You’ve worked on a decent amount of action thrillers. What jumped out to you when you read this script?
The reason why I’m drawn to making action movies is because I love pinning characters down in impossible situations and then seeing how they survive. And, you know, I’ve created some pretty outrageous situations; spies with amnesia or aliens and time travel in Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.

By the time Sunday’s episode of The Leftovers was finished, the apocalypse couldn’t come soon enough for Kevin, Nora and anyone not enamored of a-ha. He chased a ghost, she chased, in a way, a couple of her own, “Take On Me” lodged itself in our heads anew, and, in the end, there was a sudden departure of the lowercase S and D variety that I don’t think any of us saw coming. Who split? Read on.

For many years, director Ben Wheatley has been one of Britain’s top genre exports from his early supernatural crime-thriller Kill List to the dark comedy Sightseers and the trippy war movie, A Field in England. Last year, he even took on the difficult task of adapting J.B. Ballard’s High-Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston, a crazy movie that also paid homage to another great British filmmaker, Stanley Kubrick. (All of these movies were either written, co-written and/or edited by Wheatley’s long-time silent partner, Amy Jump.)
Wheatley’s new movie Free Fire features an amazing ensemble cast that includes Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, Michael Smiley and more, as it sets up a gun deal that goes wrong and turns into a violent shoot out inside an abandoned warehouse.
The movie shows the amazing skills of Wheatley and Jump with terrific dialogue and some of the most insane action scenes,...

There's so much DC superhero stuff hidden in the new Justice League movie trailer that we broke it all down for you.
Well, it sure took them long enough, didn't it? We've been waiting since last July for an 'official' trailer for Zack Snyder's Justice League movie. At San Diego Comic Con 2016, Warner Bros. unveiled a reel of footage, but it wasn't what they were officially calling a trailer. But this one is something different, and it reveals lots more about what's actually happening in the movie than that initial footage.
So the first thing you should do before I start overanalyzing every piece of this thing, is you should watch the trailer yourself if you haven't seen it yet.
Here it is...
The biggest thing to note here is that they're still aggressively pushing a very different tone (if not look) from Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Aspen Comics would be launching a new crossover series titled No World by Scott Lobdell and drawn by Jordan Gunderson.
