Toronto -- Canadian broadcaster Craig Media has announced a 2003-04 TV schedule dominated by U.S. celebrity talk shows by day and homegrown fare and Hollywood movies in primetime. Craig, which spent modestly at the Los Angeles Screenings last month, unveiled to advertisers Tuesday in Toronto a daytime lineup that features two new Warner Bros. talk shows -- one hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and the other by Sharon Osbourne -- and Buena Vista Television's The Wayne Brady Show. The Calgary, Alberta-based broadcaster also picked up King World's daytime series Living It Up! With Ali & Jack and the Warner Bros. reality-based legal series Celebrity Justice and The People's Court.
NEW YORK -- It didn't exactly equal Susan Lucci's record for futility, but ABC's The View had failed to win a Daytime Emmy Award for five straight seasons. That changed Friday at Radio City Music Hall. View and the syndicated The Wayne Brady Show shared the best talk show prize at the 30th annual Daytime Emmys, which for the first time expanded to a three-hour telecast on ABC. Other winners included CBS' As the World Turns for best daytime drama, Susan Flannery of CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful for best drama actress -- her fourth Emmy -- and Maurice Benard of ABC's General Hospital for best drama actor, his first award. Brady hosted the ceremony, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Cedric the Entertainer and Wayne Brady got some good news Thursday in the form of renewals for their respective sketch comedy/variety series. Fox Broadcasting Co. gave a back-nine pickup to its Wednesday 8:30 p.m. comedy Cedric the Entertainer Presents, bringing its total episode order to 22. The show has had a slow start in the Nielsen derby, but Fox entertainment president Gail Berman said the pickup is "an acknowledgment of the belief we have in both the show and Cedric as a television star." Meanwhile, Brady is set to become a sophomore on the TV syndie circuit with a second-season greenlight for his entertainment/talk strip from the ABC owned-and-operated stations. The Wayne Brady Show from syndicator Buena Vista Television -- which is integrated with ABC under the Walt Disney Co. flag -- will now get a full national syndication rollout in January, said Janice Marinelli, president of Buena Vista Television, who announced the renewal Thursday.
