ABC is adding to its midseason roster.
The Disney-backed broadcaster has handed out a series order to Will Trent, the Ramon Rodriguez-led drama based on Karin Slaughter’s book series.

But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the Gbi.

With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.
The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.
Premiering on May 15, is The Time Traveler’s Wife. This series adaptation of the 2003 novel (which in turn became a a 2009 movie) keeps up with two star-crossed lovers who can never quite make the timing work…...

Sometime before his death, Tupac Shakur reportedly auditioned to play Jedi Master Mace Windu in the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Rick Clifford, who worked as an engineer at Death Row Records, said in a recent interview for the website 2Pac-Forum that Shakur told him he had gone for a reading with George Lucas but that the part went to Samuel L. Jackson. (Incidentally, Jackson appeared in the 1992 movie Juice alongside the rapper.)

Just like it recently did with NCIS and its star Mark Harmon, CBS has signed a new contract extension with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation leading man Ted Danson and simultaneously renewed the veteran crime drama for the 2013-14 season. I hear Danson, whose original two-year deal for the show was up this season, has signed another two-year pact. His salary has been well over $200,000 an episode. Also set to return next season are co-lead Elisabeth Shue and original cast members George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Paul Guilfoyle and Robert David Hall, along with Wallace Langham, Elisabeth Harnois, David Berman and Jon Wellner. The renewal will extend CSI‘s run to 14 seasons. With CSI: Miami ending last May and CSI: NY expected to follow it this year, the mothership series is expected to be the only CSI on the air next season. On NBC, first spinoff Law & Order: Svu actually...

Exclusive: NBC comedy pilot Girlfriend In A Coma will be recasting its lead following the departure of Christina Ricci. I hear Ricci left the project after the table read. She was the first major cast member to board the pilot, which has been a favorite of NBC brass. As part of Ricci’s casting, the pilot was slated to film in New York where she is based. It is unclear whether production will now stay in New York or move to Los Angeles. Written by Liz Brixius based on Douglas Coupland’s book, Girlfriend In A Coma centers on Karen, a woman who was in a coma for many years and unexpectedly wakes up to find she has a 17-year-old daughter, Evie (Miranda Cosgrove). Daniel Stern and Ann Cusack play Karen’s parents, who have been raising Evie. Recastings are an unfortunate but unavoidable part of pilot season when 100 pilots...

Director David Dobkin is best known for helming raunchy, broad comedies like the smash hit Wedding Crashers and the underrated switcheroo pic The Change-Up. But for his next venture, he's diving into drama.well dramedy anyway.with Warner Bros' The Judge. Penned by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino) and revised by Bill Dubuque, the film will star Robert Downey Jr. as a successful lawyer who returns home following the unexpected death of his mother. Downey had campaigned for Jack Nicholson to play his father in this flick. But once Nicholson said no, producers wrangled another storied heavy hitter in Robert Duvall. THR reports the latest to join this already impressive cast is Law & Order: Criminal Intent star Vincent D'Onofrio, who has been steadily scoring film roles since...

Gang Related is noteworthy for having a title that somehow has yet to be claimed by any crime procedural in history, no matter how much anyone's instinct says otherwise. (A film starring Jim Belushi and Tupac, though? Well, sure.) The pilot is also worth keeping tabs on because RZA, that Wu-Tang mastermind, The Man With the Iron Fists director, and Funny People scene-stealer, has been cast in his first series regular role. The show is The Departed in San Francisco, with a gang member secretly rising through the ranks of the police force, etc. RZA will play Cassius, a member of the Gang Task Force fighting for "justice in a world that seems to have stopped caring." RZA won't have much time to work on those two directing gigs he's booked if the show gets picked up, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
