Los Angeles, Feb 12 (Ians) Veteran star Robert De Niro knew Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio was special as soon as they met, and championed him to producers.
The pair first met when DiCaprio auditioned for the 1993 drama ‘This Boy’s Life’, which also starred De Niro.
DiCaprio had not auditioned for the central role of Tobias, De Niro told the producer how impressed he was by the young actor’s audition.
He told People: “I said to Art Linson, the producer, I said, ‘Art, that kid was really, it was interesting.’ I didn’t push it. I just said, ‘That kid had something special,’ and then they turned around and wound up using Leo.”
The 80-year-old star and DiCaprio went on to work with each other on the 1996 drama ‘Marvin’s Room’ and the 2023 western crime drama film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Adding improv to a film is a bit like adding truffle to a recipe: a little goes a long way. And when you're making a movie with a legendary director like Martin Scorsese, the script likely doesn't need any creative seasoning at all. Leonardo DiCaprio found this out on the set of "Killers of the Flower Moon," in which he plays brainless criminal Ernest Burkhart.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal profile, Scorsese recalled that he found himself side-eyeing DiCaprio's attempts to improve upon the great script from himself and co-writer Eric Roth more than once on set. "Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little bit," the filmmaker said, referencing DiCaprio's co-star Robert De Niro. "And we'd tell [DiCaprio], 'You don't need that dialogue.'"

Diane Keaton is one of those special actors who can shift from comedy to drama without missing a beat. She has been nominated for two Oscars in comedy (“Something’s Gotta Give” and winning for “Annie Hall”) and two in drama (“Reds” and “Marvin’s Room”). And she shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to pop up in films and television shows. Let’s take a look back at 15 of her greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Keaton is also a key cast member in one of the seminal film series of all time — Francis Ford Coppola‘s “The Godfather” trilogy. Her heartbreaking turn as Kay Adams Corleone, a woman who sincerely believed that her husband was a good man, will forever be a part of motion picture history.

In 1997, the Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a motion picture was expected to go to a “serious” nominee like The English Patient (which would go on to win the best picture Oscar), Sling Blade or Marvin’s Room (boasting a cast including Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio). But The Birdcage swooped in for a surprise win.
Producer-director Mike Nichols and writer Elaine May had adapted the film from the French stage farce La Cage Aux Folles, moving the story of a gay couple who own a nightclub in Saint-Tropez to Miami, where Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, as Armand and Albert Goldman, become increasingly stressed out when Armand’s son, Val (Dan Futterman), comes to visit with his fiancée (Calista Flockhart) and her ultraconservative parents. The cast is rounded out by Hank Azaria as the Goldmans’ housekeeper, Christine Baranski as Val’s mother and Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest as Republican Sen.

Movie stars are a thing of the past, a relic of an era of Hollywood that simply no longer exists. But there are still a few performers who have the draw and the talent to be considered as such. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of them, and his list of achievements looks to grow yet again following the release of his latest project, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The engrossing film, which is based on David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction book of the same name, details a series of murders during the 1920s after oil was discovered on Osage land. DiCaprio stars as Ernest Burkhart, the permanently frowning nephew of Robert De Niro’s William Hale, a crime lord masquerading as a friend of the Osage who pulls Ernest into his murderous scheme to steal Osage headrights by having him marry Lily Gladstone’s Mollie Kyle.

Last awards season, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won almost everything at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Its four victories were for actress Michelle Yeoh, supporting actress Jamie Lee Curtis, supporting actor Ke Huy Quan and best ensemble cast. While the scope of the sweep surprised many, the film’s triumph in the top category was widely expected.
This year, it doesn’t appear likely that any film will match the unprecedented SAG Awards feat achieved by “Everything.” However, I do think that current Gold Derby frontrunner “Oppenheimer” will maintain its lead, and ultimately will win the guild’s prestigious best ensemble prize. Here are five reasons why.
1. It boasts a cast filled with heavyweights.
In addition to the title role portrayed by Cillian Murphy, “Oppenheimer” features a roster of highly respected industry talent. That includes previous SAG Award champions Robert Downey Jr. (TV’s “Ally McBeal”), Emily Blunt...

After nearly a decade, one of cinema’s most iconic filmmaking duos is back together again. “Killers of the Flower Moon” sees Martin Scorsese return to cinemas for his first film since 2019’s “The Irishman,” along with the two actors whose screen presence has helped define his filmography. The first is Robert De Niro, his longtime muse since his breakout film “Mean Streets” in 1973. The second is the much younger Leonardo DiCaprio, who reunites with the older statesman 10 years after “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
Scorsese is no stranger to building up a production posse of frequent collaborators. And there are many actors who made frequent appearances in his work, including Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel. But De Niro and DiCaprio are his two clear muses, serving as the leads in 15 of his 26 narrative feature films between the two of them. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ relationship timeline has long overlapped with their professional careers. After spending years together on the soap opera All My Children, the celebrity couple teamed up again to co-host Live with Kelly and Mark. The success of the daytime talk show is due in no small part to Ripa and Conseuelos’ chemistry and combined sense of humor.
That sense of humor was on display when Ripa and Conseulos’ relationship history became a topic of discussion. The two shared very different memories of their first kiss.

This year’s Killers of the Flower Moon marks the 10th major collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, it further solidifies the pair as one of the most iconic director/actor teams in cinema history. But that doesn’t mean it comes easy, as sometimes they just aren’t feeling it.
Scorsese and De Niro had an incredible run beginning with 1973’s Mean Streets, with classics like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and more following. But after 1995’s Casino, the collaborations seemed to wear cement shoes. The reason? As Scorsese tells Deadline, sometimes there’s just a general disinterest from one of the parties.
Explaining why it took 24 years between collaborations–Scorsese and De Niro didn’t work together again until 2019’s The Irishman–the director said, “After Casino we stopped for a while and I did Kundun, and Bringing Out the Dead. And then Gangs of New York.

Diane Keaton still doesn’t get why she was cast in “The Godfather”.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress was asked about her past statements about feeling miscast in Francis Ford Coppola’s classic gangster drama.
“Oh, are you kidding? Of course! I was terrified,” Keaton said. “I didn’t understand why me. I mean, I went up to the audition. I didn’t even really — I hadn’t read it. See, this is bad! But I needed a job, so I got up there. I’d been auditioning around for about a year, and then this happened like that. And I kept thinking, ‘Why me? Why would he cast me?’ I didn’t understand it. I still don’t, really.”
In the film, which featured one of her early breakout roles, Keaton played Kay Corleone, the wife of soldier-turned-mafia boss Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino.

Leonardo DiCaprio has solidified his place as an iconic actor of his generation with a career that has spanned four decades.
He started his career as a child in the TV series Romper Room but honed his acting skills in the Growing Pains. His breakout film role came in the biographical coming-of-age drama This Boy’s Life (1993), based on the eponymous memoir by author Tobias Wolff, where he starred opposite Robert De Niro. DiCaprio continued to collaborate with De Niro on other projects, including Marvin’s Room (1996) and Martin Scorsese’s true-life murder mystery adaptation Killers of the Flower Moon (2023.)
DiCaprio would go on to star in Scorsese other feature films including Gangs of New York (2002), Shutter Island (2010) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013.)
His critically acclaimed peformance in The Revenant (2015) earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. He received nominations for Best Supporting Actor in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1994) and...

On Instagram, we are all just doing our best Drake impression. His page is a case study in gnomic posturing, the embodiment of who we become on the app. Just look at this post from sixteen weeks ago. Affixed to a carousel of mostly shirtless photos from Drake’s vacation in the Turks & Caicos Islands reads a caption that only Aubrey Graham could’ve typed. “The reward for hard work is more work…kno dat.” The words still clang around my subconscious like a Patek Philippe tossed into a dryer.

It was an unusual evening at the Oscars, with several fresh faces, a veteran actress receiving her first nomination and one film dominating the ceremony. Billy Crystal hosted for the fifth time on March 24, 1997, and kept the ceremony lively, along with award winners who offered some rather entertaining acceptance speeches.
Best Picture winner “The English Patient” dominated, winning nine out of 12 nominations. Fellow Best Picture nominee “Fargo” was the only other recipient of multiple awards, winning two out of seven bids. The films that rounded out that category were “Shine,” which won one out of seven nominations, and “Jerry Maguire” and “Secrets and Lies,” each with five bids, with the former winning one and the latter leaving empty-handed.
A WWII-era epic romance detailing the tragic love affair of a burn victim and his married lover, “The English Patient” claimed victory for its score, sound, art direction, cinematography, costume design and editing.

One of the most open races at the Screen Actors Guild Awards is the top prize for film ensemble. The wide-ranging category features the casts of “Belfast,” “Coda,” “Don’t Look Up,” “House of Gucci” and “King Richard,” which also happens to be the order from top to bottom in our odds. It’s so up in the air that all five of them have at least one Expert pick to prevail, with “House of Gucci” boasting two. If the high-fashion crime drama pulls it off, it’ll be just the second SAG ensemble winner not to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
Thus far, the only film with this dubious honor is “The Birdcage” (1996), which nabbed the ensemble award in the second year of the category’s existence (it was not awarded at the first SAG Awards ceremony). The Mike Nichols comedy defeated “The English Patient,” “Marvin’s Room,” “Shine” and “Sling Blade.

After all the talk of a potential Lady Gaga-Kristen Stewart Oscar night showdown, could it be much ado about nothing?
Both actresses have a very vocal and passionate fanbase. Leading up to the Screen Actors Guild awards nominations, many predicted that the two would ultimately be the final two standing in the race for the Oscar statuette. However, that was until Stewart was snubbed for her turn as Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s historical fable. Many Gaga stans were elated by Stewart’s miss, seeing it as a clear opening for the performer to carry her “House of Gucci” momentum from a win at the New York Film Critics Circle and to a potential SAG Award, and then eventually the Academy Award.

It’s the best film of the year, according to the National Board of Review. It’s competing in eight different categories at the upcoming Critics Choice Awards. An Oscar nomination for Best Picture is all but assured, and bids for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay (for creator Paul Thomas Anderson) look similarly promising. So why are we dismissing the “Licorice Pizza” cast at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards?
As of this writing, the film looks to be a dark horse in the official Gold Derby odds for an ensemble nomination at the SAG Awards. While I agree it’s a longshot to actually take home the award, I do think that the guild’s nominating committee may well deliver “Licorice Pizza” a Best Film Ensemble bid on January 12. The wild stories emerging from the set of Adam McKay’s cosmic Netflix comedy “Don’t Look Up” continue to bear some tangy delights. Case in point: The film’s star Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays one half of a scientist team opposite Jennifer Lawrence trying to warn society of an impending meteoric apocalypse, took issue with a scene where Meryl Streep’s character is shown nude. While Streep ended up using a body double, according to the director, DiCaprio bristled at the idea of “film royalty” baring it all like that — and with a lower-back tattoo to boot.
According to writer-director McKay in a new interview with The Guardian, the scene in question involves Streep, who plays the unorthodox (and highly skeptical) President Orlean, in a comic moment of undress.
“She is fearless. And yes, that is a body double. But you know who had a problem with it? Leo [DiCaprio],” McKay said.

“The Boys in the Band” stands as one of the biggest casting stories of the year. That is a big boost to the prospects for this Netflix release at the upcoming SAG Awards. The story, by the late Mart Crowley, focuses on a group of gay friends gathered at a birthday party. It’s 1968. One year before the Stonewall Riots cracked open the gay rights movement. When the play premiered Off-Broadway that year, it was the first time audiences saw a genuine depiction of gay life on stage. This legacy was honored in the 2018 Broadway revival which starred only out men. That same group reprised their performances on film.
And that ensemble is big. Nine actors will appear on the SAG ballot: Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Robin de Jesus, Tuc Watkins, Michael Benjamin Washington, Charlie Carver, and Brian Hutchinson. Such large ensembles have reigned supreme with this awards body.

The magnificent Diane Keaton is 75! The Best Actress champion of the 50th Academy Awards has been enchanting movie audiences since the early 70s, making a name for herself as a comedienne before proving she was a versatile performer, as good at having audiences cry for her as she's at making them guffaw. Unlike many great thespians of the silver screen, Keaton's Oscar history is a good representative of her talents. The winning turn in Annie Hall and the runner-up marvel that is Something's Gotta Give represent two wildly different approaches at comedy, one spiky and cerebral, the other warmly commercial. Then we have the romance of Reds and the melodrama of Marvin's Room, a drama played at the scale of an epic and a chamber drama respectively.
Still, one can quibble with the results and wish Keaton had gotten even more love from AMPAS. For instance, when...

As part of our newly updated survey of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, we’re publishing a series of pieces on the making and impact of key records from the list. Drake’s Take Care came in at number 95.
So many artists have borrowed or copied the template of Drake’s Take Care that the boldness of the original is easily forgotten. Today, Take Care is like breathing — something we take for granted.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Blake Lively, Richard Gere and Diane Keaton are attached to star in the romantic comedy “The Making Of,” with Endeavor Content handling sales at the upcoming Toronto Intl. Film Festival.
Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are producing through their Bedford Falls Company banner with production planned for the spring. The duo is also writing the script, which revolves around a pair of married filmmakers (played by Gere and Keaton) casting actors (portrayed by Lively and Miranda) to play the younger versions of themselves — while their own marriage is falling apart.
The Toronto festival will open its 45th edition on Sept. 10 with a mixture of physical events and virtual screenings, and will showcase many movies in drive-ins as a way to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

HBO Max has a lot to offer in August, with titles to look forward to including the premiere of a brand new Seth Rogen movie called “An American Pickle” on Aug. 6, and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film “The Dark Knight” out Aug. 1.
The nascent streaming service also shares content with HBO, with new films coming like “Jojo Rabbit” out Aug. 1, “Birds of Prey” out Aug. 15, “Richard Jewell” out Aug. 8, and “Queen & Slim,” out Aug. 22. The upcoming series “Lovecraft County,” which mixes fact and fantasy and takes place in 1950s Jim Crow America, arrives Aug. 16.
Leaving throughout the month include, tragically, all eight “Harry Potter” films, which will be gone after Aug. 25. Other absolute classics like “Good Will Hunting,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and both “Kill Bill” movies will be gone after Aug. 31, so watch them while you can.

HBO Max is continuing to pull from Warner Bros.’ incredible back catalogue of movies, with August bringing a huge number of new titles to the streaming service. With over 130 new pieces of content, the list of upcoming arrivals encompasses classic films of all kinds, from Oscar winners to comedies, horrors to family pics and, of course, tons of blockbusters.
A highlight for many users will probably be the glut of Batman films coming to HBO Max at the start of the month. Every cinematic outing for the Caped Crusader from 1989’s Batman starring Michael Keaton to 2008’s The Dark Knight with Christian Bale (which just celebrated its 12th anniversary this weekend) are going up on the site. Sticking in Gotham, both seasons of Harley Quinn are also coming to HBO Max, following their original release on DC Universe.

It’s August 2020 and that can only mean one thing: HBO Max is about to enter Lovecraft Country.
Over the years HBO (and by the transitive property its new HBO Max streaming offshoot) has grown accustomed to debuting a buzzworthy new TV show or limited series every couple of months. For August 2020 that will almost certainly be Southern Gothic horror series Lovecraft Country. The J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele-produced thriller arrives on August 14 on HBO and HBO Max.
Other strong HBO Max originals arriving in August include the documentary Class Action Park (release date Tbd), Seth Rogen-starring comedy An American Pickle (Aug. 6), and finales for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Doom Patrol, and Perry Mason.
Of course, HBO Max is designed to house much of WarnerMedia’s content across many mediums. That means some recent movies on note like Jojo Rabbit (Aug. 1), Richard Jewell (Aug. 8), and Birds of Prey (Aug.

Martin Scorsese’s next film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” will be released in Italian cinemas by Rai Cinema’s 01 Distribution unit, the company said Wednesday.
The period murder mystery is based on a real-life incident and will star Leonardo DiCaprio. Robert De Niro is also believed to be on board the project. Shooting is expected to start either in March or April 2020, Del Brocco said.
“As far as I know, we are the only territory where the film will not be going out in theaters through a major studio,” said Rai Cinema CEO Paolo Del Del Brocco. Rai Cinema is the film unit of Italian pubcaster Rai.
Del Brocco noted that Italy’s Leone Film Group and Rai Cinema jointly acquired Italian rights to “Killers of the Flower Moon” from Imperative Entertainment when it was in the early stages of development by Scorsese and DiCaprio together with Imperative co-founders Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas.
