[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Law & Order Season 23 Episode 7 “Balance of Power.”] With Sam Waterston‘s exit and Jack McCoy resigning from the Da’s office in his last Law & Order episode, someone needs to fill that role. Enter Tony Goldwyn, making his debut as Da Nicholas Baxter in “Balance of Power”—and he does so immediately! In fact, Baxter surprises Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) and Riley (Reid Scott) by showing up at their crime scene (a Wall Street investor was murdered in his home). “Excuse me. Who the hell are you?” Shaw asks and, after Baxter introduces himself, tells him it’s their crime scene. “I understand. I was just walking up town and saw the swirling lights and I got excited. I thought I’d pop my head inside. I haven’t been to a crime scene in over 30 years. Couldn’t help myself,” he explains. But before Baxter leaves, he adds, “There...

Tony Goldwyn is a true-blue network guy.
Taking over the prosecutor’s office for “Law & Order” in Season 23, the steely actor is set to debut District Attorney Nicholas Baxter on the revived legal drama Thursday, March 14 at 8 p.m. Et. The character introduction comes just two weeks after Sam Waterston stepped down as the legendary Jack McCoy. For his final appearance at NBC in Episode 4 “The Last Dance,” the iconic Da sacrificed his reelection campaign to fight corruption in the mayor’s office. Leaving his post after 30 years, McCoy assured his colleagues that the next Da would be an even stronger legal mind.
Replacing Waterston won’t be easy. The 83-year-old’s retirement from the series created a major vacancy in TV’s most famous police procedural. And that’s a genre already difficult to keep compelling in an increasingly divided America. “Law & Order” is still doing well in the ratings,...

Andrew takes a nerdy dive into the pop culture real and fictional that's made its way into the world of Red Dwarf...
Creating culture within science-fiction can be tricky. It’s potentially alienating, with the audience required to understand allusions without a reference point. Then again, if you throw in too many contemporary references, the future starts to look dated pretty quickly. Red Dwarf has walked that fine line, building its own stars and entertainment but chucking in the familiar, just to keep the world grounded. We take a look at humanity’s future culture as seen through the eyes of Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten and Holly.

Film focuses in on the life of a marginalised worker in contemporary Brazil.
Aráby is the brainchild of Brazailian writer-directors Affonso Uchoa and Joao Dumans. It’s the first directing project for Dumans and the second for Uchoa, who helmed 2016 effort The Hidden Tiger.
The story is set in an old aluminium factory in Ouro Preto, and revolves around a young man who finds the diary of a worker who died in an accident and visualises what he reads. We spoke to the directors ahead of the film’s screening at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
What was your inspiration for making Araby?
Uchoa and Dumans: Since the beginning, we wanted to say something about our own reality, about the lives and the stories of the young people and workers from our country. But we wanted to do it in a literary way. We wanted to tell these stories as an epic narrative… or maybe as...

All hope seemed lost for the Ball Smashers after Jason won the PoV competition, "Balance of Power," on Big Brother: Over the Top. This comp was aptly named because there has been a huge shift of power in the house. Now the Late Night Jamboree is holding a full house while the Bs crew doesn't even have a pair -- or they won't after this week's eviction.
But the drama didn't stop there. Danielle and Jason decided to pull the ultimate Big Brother: Over the Top prank and form a fake alliance with Shelby, Morgan and Alex, telling them they wanted to seal a final five deal. Jason promised to put Justin up on the block and vote him out on eviction night. If this sounds too good to be true, that's because it was. Danielle, Jason and the Lnj were just setting the girls up for a big fall.

Some of you may not remember the first live-action Mortal Kombat television show that aired in the late 90s, but that's okay! Because for the first time ever, WB is finally bringing the complete series to DVD! Come inside for all the details.
I'm not going to sit here and say that Mortal Kombat: Conquest was a good show (it only lasted one season), but I will tell you that I watched the crap out of this show every week when I was younger and they first came out. For some reason, the campy little show has stuck with me, but sadly they've never made it into any home entertainment format before (at least not in the Us). Thankfully that's all going to change as Warner Bros. is finally releasing the show on DVD (I was hoping for blu-ray, but I'll take what I can get) on March 31, 2015.

Alex pays a fond return revisit to 1960s classic TV series, The Avengers...
Stylish crime fighting, despicable evil masterminds, a bowler-hatted old Etonian gentleman spy and a series of beautiful leather cat-suited, kinky-booted, no-nonsense heroines. The Avengers had all this and more. What began as a monochrome tape series in January 1961 ran the whole of the Sixties, becoming a colourful slice of period hokum, full of flair, wit and sophistication, yet with its tongue firmly in its cheek.
Always the perfect gentleman, John Steed was played by Patrick Macnee. Originally billed second to the late Ian Hendry, Macnee was still playing Steed over 15 years later when he was teamed with the youthful duo of Joanna Lumley and Gareth Hunt for The New Avengers in 1976. In the 1998 film, the role of Steed was given to Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman played Emma Peel. I will say no more about the film.

It was recently announced that the first movie to be exclusive screened on Netflix will be the upcoming "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Tiger" sequel. And now comes word that the company signed a deal to be the exclusive home of four new Adam Sandler movies. "People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again," said Netflix. "His appeal spans across viewers of all ages -- everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line -- not just in the Us but all over the world." Sandler added: "When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only... Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks. Let the streaming begin!!!!" It's not clear how much the deal is worth or when the first movie will be available for streaming. Stay tuned.

I do not know if this what you would call the final nail in the coffin but the last major chain in North America, AMC, has decided that they will not screen the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Tiger on their IMAX screens either. In a report from Deadline they said, "We license just the technology from IMAX," AMC says. "Only AMC and [its parent company] Wanda decide what programming plays in our respective theatres. No one has approached us to license this made-for-video sequel in the U.S. or China, so one must assume the screens IMAX committed are in science centers and aquariums."Ha. Science centers and aquariums. Indeed. Elsewhere in the World our sole cinematic overlords here in Canada, Cineplex Entertainment, and Cineworld, the top European...
