Edward Herrmann ("Herman Munster") was a classic film and TV car enthusiast, reported to have been "thrilled" to drive the famous Munster Koach, which was designed by George Barris for the original 1964 series and had not been seen on screen since "The Munsters Today" four years earlier in 1991.
Members of the original "Munsters" TV show cast make a cameo in the restaurant scene.
Christine Taylor had the distinction of playing two classic TV characters in 1995 remakes: Marilyn Munster in this film, and Marcia Brady in "The Brady Bunch Movie".
The debut Halloween broadcast on Fox was hosted by The Cryptkeeper (voiced by John Kassir, host of HBO's
"Tales from the Crypt (1989)").
The movie was intended for theatrical distribution, but following a string of unsuccessful films based on TV shows ('Addams Family Values,' 'The Beverly Hillbillies,' 'Car 54, Where Are You?,' etc.), Universal got cold feet and instead released it as a TV movie of the week.
