The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Horror in the High Desert
One of the most fruitful uses of found footage in recent memory, Horror in the High Desert is a pseudo-documentary chronicling the bizarre events that stem from the 2017 disappearance of a hiker in the Nevada wilderness.
Writer-director Dutch Marich achieves verisimilitude with smart direction and authentic performances. In classic true crime doc fashion, information is strategically unveiled to maximize impact. The methodical pacing pays off with an incredibly unnerving final 15 minutes of found footage. You’ll immediately want to follow it up with the equally effective sequel, Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva, also on Screambox.

Quick plays a 70-year-old writer who takes a new treatment that could enable her to have a child. She is emotionally transparent and intellectually engaged, unlike the film
Diana Quick makes a return to the big screen – after a six-year break – with a first-rate performance in a second-rate (perhaps third-rate) film. Forever Young is a ploddingly drab British sci-fi drama that really doesn’t have what it takes to keep up with Quick; she stars as a 70-year-old writer taking an unlicensed drug to reverse the ageing process. It’s impossible to take your eyes off her: intellectually engaged and emotionally transparent. It’s a pity then that the script is unserious and uninteresting, with nothing to say either about the existential leap in the dark of eternal youth or the ethics of the anti-ageing industry.
Quick is Robyn, a bestselling author who’s been happily married to Oscar (Bernard Hill) for donkey’s years.

To many, he will always be Frodo Baggins, the brave little furry-footed hobbit who volunteers to bear the burden of carrying the dreaded One Ring as he leaves his bucolic existence behind while sacrificing himself to save Middle-earth in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
But Elijah Wood has had quite a varied career beyond the Shire ever since he made his film debut at 8-years-old with a small part as Video Game Boy #2 in 1989’s “Back to the Future Part II.” He would go on to land the coveted central role in the epic fantasy franchise based on J.R.R. Music Box Films has dropped the trailer for “The Crime Is Mine,” François Ozon’s screwball comedy set in 1930s Paris starring Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Rebecca Marder and Isabelle Huppert.
A showbiz caper with a feminist edge in the vein of Ozon’s “8 Women” and “Potiche,” “The Crime Is Mine” will open in New York on Dec. 25, followed by Los Angeles and a national expansion.
Tereszkiewicz, who won a César award for best newcomer for her performance in “Forever Young,” stars as a struggling actress, Madeleine, who lives with her best friend, Pauline (Marder), an unemployed lawyer, in a cramped flat. Opportunity knocks after a lascivious theatrical producer who made an inappropriate advance toward Madeleine turns up dead. Madeleine admits to the crime and is acquitted on the grounds of self-defense — and in result becomes a star, as well as a feminist icon.

The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering Overlord was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The channel covers so much from the ’80s and ’90s but the truth is, there’s more horror floating around now than ever before. With the rise of horror studios like Blumhouse or prestige studios like A24 realizing that horror can not only be profitable but award worthy, the theaters have no shortage of scary. That’s not even including streaming services like Tubi, Shudder, and even the big 4 going all in on either producing or showcasing horror on their platforms. A lot of these end up being successful but some of them flounder a bit, even when they deserve to soar. Today’s movie has good names in front of and behind the camera,...

Following a number of disappointing blockbusters in May, there are a few promising ones this month (as glimpsed in our honorable mentions below), but it feels like we’ll have to wait until July for a trio of heavy hitters. In the meantime, June brings an eclectic mix of sturdy debuts, auteur-driven offerings, and accomplished documentaries.
15. Shadow Kingdom (Alma Har’el; June 6)
Technically released in limited capacity a couple years ago, the Bob Dylan concert film Shadow Kingdom is now getting proper distribution. As Nick Newman said in our summer movie preview, “Your local Bob Dylan obsessive has surely mentioned Shadow Kingdom, the 2021 concert film that saw him rework an assortment of earlier songs––some established, some deeper in the back catalogue. One case (‘To Be Alone with You’) marked an almost-total rewrite, and courtesy the end credits (which we now know is called ‘Sierra’s Theme’) an entirely new track.

For fully half of Bob Dylan’s career, his primary focus has been the road. Since the late Eighties, he’s done plus-or-minus a hundred shows a year, pandemic excepted. Along the way, he’s been remaking his catalog, twisting the classics into drastic new shapes. He’d always done that, of course, from turning his folk songs into electric rock in the mid-Sixties, on down to his infamous speed-snarl through “Masters of War” at the Grammy Awards in 1991. That sense of constant evolution also seems to have played a...

HBO Max is dead. Long live Max.
The new combined streaming service launched on Tuesday, and in addition to housing all of HBO Max and Discovery+’s content in one place, Max also plays host to a robust library of movies and TV shows streaming in 4K Uhd. Right now, you can stream all the “Harry Potter” movies, the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” trilogies, the “Dark Knight” trilogy, the “Matrix” films, “Dune,” “Joker” and even “The Wizard of Oz” and “Goodfellas” in 4K. Every time Blackpink has performed on stage at Coachella, it has been a history-making event. Their debut appearance there, on the Sahara stage back in 2019, marked the first time that a K-pop girl group performed on any of the festival’s stages. Fast forward four years, and the four-piece supergroup took the main stage for two weekends in a row to become the first K-pop group to be named headliners in Coachella’s 24-year history. Now that the event has wrapped for the year, Blackpink are finally taking it all in.

Blackpink captivated the 2023 Coachella crowd Saturday, becoming the first Korean act to perform at the California festival.
In true Blackpink fashion, the performance was a sight to behold. With special solo breakouts, awe-inspiring group numbers, and a healthy amount of fireworks, Blackpink gave fans everything they were hoping for.
For starters, the two acts leading up to Blackpink set the tone perfectly — Charli Xcx brought heaps of energy and some outstanding choreography, and Rosalía rode scooters around the stage while treating fans to some excellent songs off Motomami.
And though Blackpink’s set ended up being delayed a bit longer than expected, their arrival was monumental. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa immediately broke out into their 2022 track “Pink Venom” and continued on with “Kill This Love” and “How You Like That” back to back. Blackpink just made history at Coachella. The K-pop heavyweights — Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé — performed an almost two-hour-long set of their greatest hits as they closed at a jam-packed second night of Coachella on Saturday.
The performance actually started 30 minutes later than planned, but fans didn’t seem to mind the wait. A group of dancers kicked things off with dramatic choreography, building up the anticipation for the girls. Then, Blackpink appeared behind clouds of smoke and immediately burst into a high-voltage rendition of “Pink Venom” that elicited wild screams and cheers from the crowd.

Bob Dylan has announced that he will be releasing an album version of his celebrated 2021 concert film, Shadow Kingdom. The record will be out June 2nd via Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings.
The film version of Shadow Kingdom first premiered in July 2021 and featured a riveting setlist of songs from the first three decades of Dylan’s discography. Reimagined in a smoky, noir-esque bar (the fictional “Bon Bon Club”) and crooned by a then-80-year-old Dylan, the songs took on a nostalgic warmth while still illuminating the modern context they were recorded in, with a mask-wearing band and all. Unexpected, enchanting, and a musical delight, it was Dylan doing what he does best.
Joined by a stripped-back ensamble — including upright bass, accordion, and Big Thief’s Buck Meek on guitar — Dylan revisited songs like “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” “It’s All Over Now,...

Your local Bob Dylan obsessive has surely mentioned Shadow Kingdom, the 2021 concert film that saw him rework an assortment of earlier songs––some established, some deeper in the back catalogue. One case (“To Be Alone with You”) marked an almost-total rewrite, and courtesy the end credits (which we now know is called “Sierra’s Theme”) an entirely new track. A smorgasbord for Dylanologists, enough to write home for, but greater still that the film component (directed by Alma Har’el and shot by Lol Crawley) is a smoky, dark––yes, shadowy––achievement all its own.
It also sat on some weird service for the short duration paying customers could even access it, seemingly left to be a fun memory from a strange summer. Last month, the 48th César Awards ceremony took place and alongside trophies given to recent releases, David Fincher was bestowed the Honorary César. It looks like the director––who is in post-production on his Michael Fassbender-led crime thriller The Killer ahead of a November release––took the honor seriously as he watched all the Best Film nominees: Pacifiction, Forever Young, Rise, The Innocent, the evening’s winner The Night of the 12th.
Across the viewings, the only one he appreciated was reportedly Albert Serra’s Pacifiction. Star of the film and César Best Actor winner Benoît Magimel told Allocine that he went to a dinner featuring Fincher and Brad Pitt, who relayed the kind words about the film. Magimel said, “[Brad Pitt told me]: ‘David Fincher is pretty tough. In twenty years, I must have seen him about five times happy to see a film. Meaning, he doesn’t like anything.’ He said to me,...

In the 1960s, Bob Dylan said that the only product that could make him sell out was “ladies’ undergarments.” Several decades later, he proved this was true when he appeared in an ad for Victoria’s Secret. Dylan has “sold out” several other times over the years, though. He does not seem like a celebrity who would appear in commercials, but he has, surprising his fans each time.

The César Awards are characterized as France’s answer to the Oscars. And just like their awards show cousin halfway across the world, the Césars are embroiled in controversy after failing to nominate any women directors.
This year’s Academy Awards were slammed by advocacy groups after ignoring the likes of Gina Prince-Bythewood (“The Woman King”) and Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”) in favor of an all-male contingent of auteurs. The Césars have followed suit with an all-male group of directing nominees, despite a banner year for French female filmmakers. It’s one that saw directors from Alice Diop (“Saint Omer”) to Claire Denis (“Stars at Noon”) dominating the festival circuit and scoring prizes, only to come up short when the Césars unveiled their contenders on Jan. 25. The omission has sparked a debate about gender equity and sexism in the French film business, as well as social media protests emblazoned with the hashtag #CesarsSoMale,...
