After the fake skirmish goes wrong, resulting in Mother's death, the GIs go back to the chateau where they are debriefed by Griffin. They then spend the night at the chateau and are all chased away the next morning by the advancing German Army (taking Mother's dead body). They spend that night in the woods hiding from the Germans, and the next day decide to bury all of their equipment and make their way as best as they can back to their own lines (again, taking Mother's dead body with them). BUT when they turn Mother's body over on his litter, they are able to force blood up through his mouth and into a cup (so that they could make red crosses on their ponchos and helmet and appear to be medics). They are able to do this even though Mother's body has been in subfreezing temperature for some 48 hours. Surely anywhere outside of a Hollywood set Mother's body would have been frozen solid by then (including his blood) rendering this feat impossible.

BUT as they re-position Mother's body on his litter, they are able to easily bend and unbend his arms even though Mother's body has been in subfreezing temperatures for some 48 hours. Surely anywhere outside of a Hollywood set Mother's body would have frozen solid by then, making his arms ridged and hardly bendable.
Throughout the movie, the forest is predominantly made up by white birch. This species is native only to North America and does not grow in the Ardennes Forest where the events take place.
