Undergoing midlife crises, three middle-aged city slickers -- yuppies Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal), Phil Berquist (Daniel Stern), and Ed Furillo (Bruno Kirby) -- decide to vacation together at a cattle ranch, where they will participate in a two-week long cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado, that is, if they can survive the wrath of their crusty trail boss Curly (Jack Palance).
The film's screenplay was written by American screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. A sequel, City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold (1994), was released in 1994.
The DVD Version features an additional conversation between Mitch (Billy Crystal), Phil (Daniel Stern) and Ed (Bruno Kirby). Therefore the DVD runs approx. 4 minutes longer than the old Theatrical Version.
