Jon Bon Jovi is a rare hairband frontman who has been able to extend his hit music career beyond the 80s metal rock era. He crossed over as a solo artist, but his band, Bon Jovi, remains one of the most beloved in the rock genre with hits such as “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name” (which was played all over the trailer to Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s ode to stuntmen in David Leitch‘s The Fall Guy). Hulu has now released the trailer for the upcoming documentary for the story of the band told from their own personal perspectives. The Hulu doc, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story teases their famous frontman preparing audiences by saying, “I’ve got a story to tell.”
In the official release from Hulu, the synopsis reads,

One of the hardest things to do in Hollywood is to make a highly anticipated movie sequel that lives up to the original, much less surpasses it. But if you had a loaded six-shooter pressed to your temple and had to answer as quickly and honestly as possible, what would you say the all-time best movie Western sequel happens to be? Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy certainly comes to mind as the most sterling example. Yet, in terms of a Western that uses historical events to tell a compelling biographical tale, it’s hard to eclipse the blistering entertainment value of Young Guns II – a movie that continues the saga of William H. Bonney, aka, Billy the Kid, and his gunslinging compatriots, The Regulators, following their valiant efforts fighting in the Lincoln County War. Released two years after the original, Young Guns II became nearly as successful as the original...

Howdy pardners! Today, we’re galloping back to 1988, when Christopher Cain and a band of rootin’ tootin’ outlaws shot up the silver screen for the American Western action film Young Guns. Presented as a retelling of the adventures of Billy the Kid during the Lincoln Couty War, Young Gun features a murderers’ row of talent, including Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, Casey Siemaszko, Terence Stamp, Jack Palance, and Terry O’Quinn.
Cain directs from a script by John Fusco. Young Guns revolves around a group of young gunmen, led by Billy the Kid, who become deputies to avenge the murder of the rancher who became their benefactor. However, when Billy takes their authority too far, they become the hunted.
Historian Paul Hutton once called Young Guns the most historically accurate of all films focusing on the dirty deeds of Billy the Kid as of its year of release.

Succession star Alan Ruck reveals in an exclusive with uInterview his thoughts on the show’s finale.
While he did enjoy acting on the show he noted that, “[creator] Jesse [Armstrong]’s right to end it now. I think we’ll go out on a real high. I think it’s the best season we’ve done, really, and then we’ve done some pretty good stuff, you know. But I think it’s our best season. I think he’s smart to end it now, we’ll go out on a high note. I’ll miss everybody but that’s how it goes.”
Ruck has played Connor Roy since the show started in 2018. His character is the eldest son of Logan Roy and Logan’s first wife, whom he divorced. Throughout the show, he and his siblings, Roman, Kendall and Shiv, fight for control of their father’s company, Waystar Royco.

In the era of "everything old is new again" that Hollywood has been going through for some time, why not "Young Guns 3"? That's what Emilio Estevez believes anyhow, as the actor is very much ready to reprise his role as Billy the Kid in a new film in the franchise more than 30 years after the release of "Young Guns 2." What's more, Estevez actually believes there's a lot of gas in the tank for this franchise — four or five movies worth.
Estevez recently spoke with Uproxx about the prospect of "Young Guns 3," which first surfaced as a real possibility a couple of years back. Not only did Estevez say he's "ready to go" but he said, seemingly in earnest, "I think, not only just one more film in the franchise, but I think you could do three, four, and five." What's holding these grand plans up? Legal red tape.

Young Guns II made the west wilder, but Emilio Estevez is ready to get even wilder and wilder and wilder, saying he envisions the future of Young Guns possibly expanding into three more movies–once disputes over the rights and intellectual property are cleared.
Speaking with Uproxx, Emilio Estevez said his spurs are all shined up should everything align. “It all comes down to the legal minds that work out IP. Listen, I’m ready to go. We have a terrific draft and if we can figure out the copyrights on all of this, and if Morgan Creek can sort of untangle from some of the issues that they’ve got in terms of continuing the franchise, we’re ready to go. So it’s just a question of when.” He added, “Of course, I’m not getting any younger, so I think we’ll drop the ‘young’ from the title,...

Lou Diamond Phillips, who played real-life Wild West Regulator Jose Chavez y Chavez in both Young Guns and Young Guns II, has hinted that Young Guns 3 could still very well hop back on the saddle at some point.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Phillips said Young Guns 3 isn’t entirely off the table, although talk has certainly slowed down. “It’s in limbo right now…It was chugging along there for a minute, but then I think they got into a rights situation…It’s not dead, but it’s not happening right now.” While the movies certainly have a following, that more than 30 years has passed since Young Guns II might be an indication that fan interest may have aged out. Bueller…Bueller…oh, and Cameron, too! Ferris Bueller’s Day Off stars Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck recently sat down for a one-on-one conversation to discuss a variety of topics, most importantly John Hughes’ 1986 comedy. But its status as a teen movie classic may not have happened without the pair’s work in the theater.
After some banter about plague masks, Ruck told Broderick, “I’m not blowing smoke up your ass, but I owe you a lot,” causing confusion. Clarifying, Ruck said, “If there was no Matthew Broderick, there probably wouldn’t have been a Biloxi Blues, and that was a major springboard for me,” referring to the stage production of Neil Simon’s play, which Broderick would later star in the movie adaptation of. “If it wasn’t for Biloxi Blues, Ferris Bueller wouldn’t have happened for me. Legend has it that Billy the Kid shot and killed 21 men; one for each year of his life. The legendary outlaw's own life was taken sometime after midnight on July 14, 1881, by the reformed lawman Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. There is still speculation that Garrett, a longtime acquaintance of Billy's (whose birth name was Henry McCarty) never actually shot down his old friend and allowed him to escape in the dark of night.
Garrett was also accused of ambushing McCarty, which led to him hiring a ghost writer named Marshall Upton who detailed Garrett's version in "The Authentic Life of Billy, the Kid." The book has become a great historical reference, but at the time of its release in 1882, it failed to change the popular opinion that Garrett may have acted ungentlemanly the night Billy the Kid was slain.

The 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" from the "Young Guns II" soundtrack is impossible to resist. I feel pretty confident in saying that, when you read the title of that song, it began playing in your head. In fact, you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, and if anyone else is around, they'll join in with the harmony. Maybe you, like a young version of me, watched the video repeatedly, admiring ... the music. I didn't mean the exceedingly good-looking Jon Bon Jovi himself. Okay, that's a lie, but the song really is pretty great. There is a reason it's performed at every karaoke bar, including the fictional one in the afterlife in "The Good Place."
What you might not have realized about the song you cannot stop singing now that I've mentioned it, is that it was written over dinner with two stars of the 1990 sequel to 1988's "Young Guns.

As spooky season comes to a close, HBO Max is ditching scary favorites like “Friday the 13th,” “Poltergeist” and the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchises this November in preparation for the holidays.
Emerald Fennell’s Oscar-winning hit, “Promising Young Woman,” led by Carey Mulligan, will exit the streaming service alongside the Kristen Wiig-led comedy “Girl Most Likely” at the end of the month.
Film fans should also take advantage of watching classics like “Anna Karenina,” “Fatal Attraction,” “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “The Truman Show,” “Godzilla” and the Judy Garland and James Mason version of “A Star Is Born” before they leave.
Other noteworthy titles leaving HBO Max this month include “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Dunkirk.”

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

This year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has once again nominated heavy-metal pioneers Judas Priest for induction. The fact that the group has been eligible for 22 years now and isn’t yet in the Hall after three times on the ballot doesn’t sit well with Kerry King, the former Slayer guitarist, who has been a massive Priest fan since high school.
“Some years, you hear who got in the Rock Hall and you’re like, ‘Well, how did they get in above these other bands?'” he says.

Toilet breaks, vampires, presidents and country albums: what do you want to ask the actor and musician about?
There’s plenty to ask the man who Donald Sutherland calls “son”. He’s British for starters – born in 1966 in St Mary’s hospital in Paddington. If anyone else’s brain hasn’t seized up trying to think of how this could possibly happen then it might have already happened, I’ve gone crazy enough to slip into a parallel dimension where a Young Guns 3 could have any possibility of happening. Even more than that, this is building off of the idea that Jose Chavez y Chavez is still alive, and so is Billy the Kid. Is Billy the Kid coming back? According to the writer of Young Guns and Young Guns II, the answer may be yes! John Fusco just made a not-so-cryptic Tweet mentioning another incarnation of the character with original star, Emilio Estevez, being involved. Here's the Tweet: Emilio Estevez and I are excited to be collaborating on this continuation of the Billy the Kid saga - and you’re…...

Can we agree that among the eight Oscar nominations granted “A Star Is Born,” its likeliest win will be Best Song for “Shallow”? That soaring ballad sold the music-packed showbiz saga’s first trailer like nobody’s business as Lady Gaga‘s Ally started to roar before a mic. The pop chanteuse herself would receive the honor alongside her co-writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. The song has already won a Golden Globe and is up for four Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Judging by the combined odds chart based on rankings by Experts, Editors and Users, “Shallow’s” support is quite deep, with more than 2,200 predicting it will win.
Songs that bring home the Academy Award usually benefit from actually being performed onscreen and not just heard, and Gaga and Bradley Cooper do a mesmerizing job of selling this tune. But...

Iconic New Zealand film maker, Geoff Murphy, known for “The Quiet Earth” and work on “Dante’s Peak,” has died. He was 80.
Murphy’s death on Monday was confirmed by the New Zealand Film Commission. The organization called him “one of the leading figures in New Zealand cinema’s renaissance of the late 1970s and 1980s.”
A writer, director and producer, Murphy directed three films in that period – “Goodbye Pork Pie,” “Utu,” and “The Quiet Earth” – that were timely and locally-rooted. They are now considered as Kiwi classics.
Murphy’s creative career kicked off as a founding member of musical, theatrical troupe Blerta. His first film, “Wild Man” was largely developed and improvised by Blerta regulars. Murphy’s road movie “Never Say Die,” gave Temuera Morrison his first starring role.

“Remember Me” from “Coco” is the favorite to win the Best Original Song Oscar, but it needs to watch out for “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman” — not just because it’s a huge hit and NBC is using it as its Winter Olympics soundtrack, but because it’s the Golden Globe champ. Before you scream “The Globes and Oscars never pick the same song winner!”, know that they have agreed the past three years and their split choices are a relatively new phenomenon.
The Globes gave out its first song award to the title track from “Town Without Pity” (1961) — the Oscars went with “Moon River” from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” — but didn’t start handing out the prize annually until three years later. The Globes and Oscars matched only once that decade, for “The Windmills of Your Mind” from “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968).

Once a blockbuster staple, the power ballad was the ultimate movie accompaniment. We look back at some of the classics...
For a glorious period from the mid-80s throughout the 90s, the biggest summer blockbusters were only worth their salt if they had an equally gargantuan song at the head their soundtrack. Often the success of one was inexorably linked to the other, with the likes of Four Weddings And A Funeral's feats matched and even exceeded by Wet Wet Wet's accompanying Love Is All Around.
The greatest and most successful songs belong to the power ballad genre, and are as emotionally charged and forceful as the gods of epic balladry such as Journey, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. As the 90s became the 00s and the charts became increasingly irrelevant, the movie ballad became almost defunct, with even the song-dominant film soundtrack being...

The Western is truly back, and with it comes the return of a former young gun, Kiefer Sutherland, now playing an old gun retired from a life of violence. In Forsaken, he's also acting opposite his own dad, Donald Sutherland, the first time they've appeared as father and son in a movie (not counting a 1987 documentary focused on the elder) and really the first major time they've shared the screen. They have been in the same movies before, just not together in the same scenes, in both Max Dugan Returns and A Time to Kill. And neither is stranger to the genre, with Kiefer one of the stars of Young Guns and Young Guns II and Donald being in 1974's Alien Thunder and 2012's Dawn Rider. This one easily looks to be of better quality than the...

1985 was the year of Back To The Future, Rocky IV and Rambo II. But what about these 20 movies, that also deserve a fair share of love?
Thirty years ago, Marty McFly was riding high with the smash hit Back To The Future, while Sylvester Stallone enjoyed his most successful year yet with the one-two punch of Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rocky IV. It was an era of family sci-fi and teen comedies and bullet-spraying action, where The Breakfast Club and Teen Wolf rubbed shoulders with Death Wish 3 and Commando. Then there were low-key dramas like Out Of Africa and The Color Purple, which were both awards magnets at the Oscars.
Away from all those big hits, 1985 saw the release of a wealth of less successful movies, some of which found a second life on the then-huge home video circuit. Here's our pick of 20 underappreciated films from the year of Rambo,...

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

We've a soft spot for Under Siege 2, but the 1995 follow-up, directed by Geoff Murphy (Fortress 2, Young Guns II) did not ignite in the same way as the first.
