Adam Sandler-starring comedies are seemingly not critics’ favorites, as they often fell victim to their strict judgment. All of us can recall such hilarious genre’s staples as Big Daddy (1999), Click (2006) and Grown Ups (2010), but it may come as a surprise that their critical score is less than 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie that is now holding the fifth place in HBO’s global top is no exception, as it was panned by critics, but liked by the actor’s fans, just like the mentioned titles.
Its plot focuses on a pizzeria owner who lives his calm life in a small town. However, it’s about to change, as he is the only heir of his deceased uncle who leaves him a fortune of $40 billion. He embarks on a journey into the big city’s world of luxuries, large businesses and, moreover, tabloid reporters, who urge to know his success story.

"Vanishing Point" isn't exactly a mainstream classic, but for a portion of moviegoers who like to see cars go fast and people do drugs, it's pretty much unmissable. Based on that description alone, it makes sense that the cult film's audience grew when it was directly referenced in Quentin Tarantino's 2007 road slasher film "Death Proof." Other directors who are major fans of the film include Edgar Wright and Steven Spielberg, who once told Entertainment Weekly it was one of his favorite movies.
The 1971 film didn't feature many stars, but did include a handful of actors who would become famous for other projects in the years following the film. Cleavon Little, who played radio DJ Super Soul in the film, went on to star in Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" three years later, while actress Charlotte Rampling, who was Oscar nominated for her work in "45 Years" in 2016, apparently appeared as...

The final boss met his match(es) on Friday night’s edition of Jeopardy! Masters. James Holzhauer, for the first time in the competition so far, walked away empty-handed from the fourth night of competition after facing the two frontrunners of Season 2 together in what can only be described as a very competitive Game 8. Here’s a look at the major highlights of this two-game episode of Jeopardy! Masters. Game Seven This match-up put the three lowest-scoring contestants coming into the evening together: Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach, each of whom had just one match point to show for the previous three nights of competition. In the first round, Schneider took a healthy lead, thanks in part to getting the first Daily Double correct (Cuba was the right answer to the “Coming to America”-categoried clue of, “From 1960 to 1962 a covert program called Operation Pedro Pan brought thousands of children to the U.

When Kevin Daniels got a call from his agent’s mom that she’d pitched him for the lead role in a film she was producing, it didn’t take much for him to say “yes.”
“We had a zoom meeting and we kind of laughed and told some jokes and they were like, ‘Hey, you want to come down to Savannah?’ and I was like, ‘I like Savannah. That sounds nice,’” Daniels tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The film was Not Another Church Movie, a spoof comedy of Tyler Perry’s Madea series, written, directed and produced by Johnny Mack (Real Husbands of Hollywood), which is set to hit theaters on May 10. In it, Daniels, stars as the hardworking Taylor Pherry, a man given a mission directly from God (Jamie Foxx) to write a story about his dysfunctional family to save billionaire talk show host Hoprah Windfall’s plummeting TV ratings.

Nearly 300 film professionals from across Europe and the world have thrown their support behind a group calling for strike action to disrupt the upcoming Cannes film festival.

The Lion King has been a classic in Disney’s record. It was a spectacle for audiences, following the story of the nobility of the animal kingdom. Fans have a very emotional connection with the movie, and it has also become an important part of the entertainment company’s history. When a piece of art becomes timeless and iconic, it is only inevitable that there will be remakes.

A prequel story to 2019’s Disney live-action movie, The Lion King, is upon us. The movie tells us the story of Mufasa, Simba’s father, and his journey to become the king of the jungle. Mufasa: The Lion King will be helmed by director Barry Jenkins of Moonlight fame, unlike Jon Favreau, who directed the 2019 feature, with Donald Glover and Beyoncé returning to voice Simba and Nala, respectively.

For the Oscar winner, this Walt Disney production was quite different from the kind of movies he usually makes. And if not for Jeff Nathanson’s script, which had him hooked from the beginning, Jenkins could have almost said no to the project.

Intro: The heat is back on for a third time in this episode of Revisited, but after huge success with the first two installments, can lightning strike a third time in the massively popular Beverly Hills Cop series? Of course it can. I mean, the formulas there, the main star of the franchise is back and the poster has a kick-ass rollercoaster on it, which is pretty edgy…If you’re a ten year old. So, naturally, nothing could go wrong.
Well, look, the franchise has legs, with part four in post production at the time of writing this episode, and Netflix looking at a summer release for the movie. It’s a popular modern trend in Tinseltown, where legacy characters, or franchises, are being resurrected for final outings, or a continuation of the mythology to keep modern audiences interested in a known and historically lucrative IP. Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts was feeling the love on the Valentine’s Day episode of the ABC program.
She’s been known to joke, tease, and banter with her GMA colleagues, including her fired-up interaction with one anchor about the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce relationship.
However, things nearly became awkward as she put her co-anchors on the hot seat during a live TV segment on Wednesday.
Roberts was joined by Michael Strahan, who returned to GMA after a week away, and George Stephanopoulos, who continues to appear regularly on ABC’s show.
During one part of GMA, Roberts told her co-anchors she had an important question to ask them.
Strahan and Stephanopoulos wisely navigated being put on the hot seat, though.

Production design Oscar nominees “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” “Napoleon” all competed for the 28th Art Directors Guild Awards February 10 at Ovation Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. “Poor Things” prevailed over “Barbie” for fantasy, and is now in the driver’s seat to win the Oscar. Throughout the season, it has been a race between these two big feminist films constructed around rebirth and unconventional world-building.
Meanwhile, “Oppenheimer” took period honors over “Asteroid City,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Napoleon.” Contemporary winner “Saltburn,” though, is not in the Oscar running. The animated feature winner was “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
The TV winners for one-hour period, fantasy, and contemporary were “The Great,” “The Last of Us,” and “Succession.” Movie or limited series went to “Beef,” and the half-hour series winner was “Reservation Dogs.”

As Hollywood neared the midpoint of the 1980s, the industry had abandoned the risk-taking ethos of the 1970s and unabashedly embraced formula filmmaking. Stars still mattered, but the pitch was king. Studio executives keen on becoming their generation's Jack Warner, Daryl Zanuck and Louis B. Mayer were through humoring unpredictable auteurs like Martin Scorsese and Hal Ashby. They wanted can't-miss high-concept projects powered by high-wattage stars that could play for months on end in theaters because, despite the skyrocketing value of home video and pay cable channels, theatrical was still king.
"Beverly Hills Cop" traversed a rocky path from inception to production, but producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer doggedly developed and re-developed the project until they paired a 23-year-old comedy superstar with a once-hot director who'd two years prior gotten himself fired off "WarGames." The particulars of the fish-out-of-water plot shifted many times over the years (it was nearly...

Sometimes, you gotta play the hits. And at a certain point in an actor’s career, perhaps it’s time to revisit and play all those hits once again. Harrison Ford’s done it all recently, and comedian Eddie Murphy is arguably headed on a similar path. After returning to the “Coming To America” franchise in 2021, Murphy is now revisiting arguably his most iconic role: that of Axel Foley in the crime comedy franchise, “Beverly Hills Cop.” The latest and fourth film in the franchise, the modestly titled, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley,” arrives in the summer of 2024 via Netflix.

Candy Cane Lane, Prime Video’s latest Christmas movie with a zany twist, comes just the day after Netflix’s Family Switch, which also happens to be a Christmas comedy with a zany twist. That’s quite alright, though, given that it’s that time of year when we are bound to get a lot of these kinds of movies, all aiming to bring us holiday cheer. With Eddie Murphy heading Candy Cane Lane, the movie is destined to receive more attention than its peers. Although Murphy’s last two releases, the romantic comedy titled You People that came earlier this year and Coming 2 America (2021), a sequel to Murphy’s own hit Coming to America (1988), were pretty much duds, we all know what Murphy can do. The 2019 biographical comedy Dolomite is My Name is a shining example of that. Naturally, Candy Cane Lane, despite being another Christmas movie, comes with a lot of expectations.

With the launch of Pepsi Max’s “Uncle Drew” campaign in 2012, there was a touch of Eddie Murphy in Coming to America and a dash of Jackass, with a covert Kyrie Irving under piles of Hollywood makeup, pairing surprising improv comedy chops with his incredible hoop skills. Arriving a whopping 26 years after 1997’s cult-favorite Nickelodeon comedy, “Good Burger 2” fits the streaming-era trend in which audiences seek a nostalgia bump reconnecting with old favorites, like “Coming to America” or “Hocus Pocus” — not exactly classics so much as modest pleasures from more innocent times. In this obnoxiously unfunny followup from Paramount+, stars Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson return as hapless fast food employees. To update the story to 2023, director Phil Traill and screenwriters Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert add a few new characters and a tiresome AI plot, winding up with a Thanksgiving diversion that functions just fine playing in the background as families gather for their holiday meals.

Updated with latest: The two-year-old lawsuit between Bohemian Rhapsody writer Anthony McCarten and the producers of the Oscar-winning film is over.
On Halloween, lawyers for the two-time Oscar-nominated scribe filed “request for dismissal” paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court. The document asks that McCarten’s November 2021 profits action against the Graham King-run Gk Films LLC and production company Wagw Inc. over the blockbuster biopic be dismissed “with prejudice.”
This ends for good the lawsuit in which McCarten sought to be paid the 5% of Gk’s profits he says he was promised for writing the Freddie Mercury film. No information on any settlement or other details were made public in the October 31 filing.
As Queen themselves once sang: “Easy come, easy go, little high, little low.”

Eddie Murphy has spent much of the last 27 years making kid-friendly flicks like “Imagine That” and “Daddy Daycare.” As such, it’s a little surprising that “Candy Cane Lane” represents his first Christmas/holiday flick. That’s the hook for this latest Amazon Prime original feature.
This brief teaser doesn’t so much explain the premise as lays out the protagonist, showing Murphy as a loving husband and father who nonetheless takes the concept of Christmas decorations a bit too far. He essentially sells his soul to a magical elf played by Jillian Bell for a holiday-related wish. Alas, much to his family’s chagrin, that wish is not world peace or a new album from Drake.

Murphy’s wish causes a spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life, unleashing PG-rated chaos on the town. One can surmise that all parties learn that Christmas is not about winning...

For the last few years, Netflix seemed to have sprung a leak. Once the one-stop shop for movies and TV, the world’s most popular streamer took a beating as rival services emerged. Disney+ and Max clawed back movies for their own streamers, and it seemed no one wanted to share libraries under any circumstances.
But times have changed.
Desperate to add revenue, rival streamers have once again opened their vaults to Netflix. The result is the best library Netflix has had in several years.
It’s Not TV, It’s Not HBO, It’s Netflix
One major pivot is how Max is allowing some of its HBO crown jewels to drift to Netflix. It began with the groundbreaking “Insecure,” cited by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Best Sitcoms of All Time. Starting today, Netflix users will also be able to binge the highly acclaimed “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.

Start gathering your gold coins because a pop-up bar modeled after the world of John Wick, chiefly the upcoming miniseries The Continental, is coming to New York City later this month to promote the highly anticipated expansion of the franchise. Even cooler is that it will be inside of the Beaver Hotel, which was used for The Continental’s exterior.
As per the official website for The Continental, “Step back in time to the 1970s to the world’s most chic, sophisticated, and dangerously elite hotel in NYC. Venture into the hotel’s cryptic underworld for an unforgettable evening of decadent cocktails and live, interactive storylines – all with a killer twist.” They do, however, kindly ask that patrons not engage in “bloodshed” and “hostile business.” Fair enough.

"A Royale with Cheese." Who wants one? Or two? McDonald's is going all out with a new promotion. Even though we usually despise any shameless marketing, especially when it's for extremely unhealthy fast food, this is is just too good to ignore. McDonald's has debuted a 60-second trailer along with their poster for a new "As Featured In Meal" deal. So what are they offering? "A collection of fan-favorite menu items that have made iconic appearances throughout film, television and music." Huh, okay. The trailer features some of the most iconic appearances - including The Fifth Element, Reality Bites, "The Office", Fallen Angels, The Longest Yard, and of course the "Royale with Cheese" in From Paris with Love. I have to give them props for fully embracing the hilariousness of finding every single McDonald's reference in any film from any country, including ones that kind of make them look bad,...

August is always a weird time for movie fans, but the current strike-related ambiguity that has brought Hollywood to a screeching halt makes this month’s entertainment landscape even harder to navigate. Normally, August is the bridge between the peak of the summer blockbuster season and the beginning of the fall festival circuit. Sure, there are always a few big studio projects rolling out in theaters, but many cinephiles begin to look ahead to the slate of awards contenders debuting in Venice, Toronto, and Telluride.
This August’s theatrical lineup follows a predictable pattern — while nobody is comparing “Strays” and “Blue Beetle” to “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” there are still major studio releases to be found. But the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has thrown the entire fall release schedule into limbo. With actors unable to promote their projects, many of autumn’s biggest scheduled releases could end up being delayed. While nothing is certain,...

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

Spoiler alert: This article breaks down the plot and characters in “They Cloned Tyrone.”
John Boyega got his first opportunity to play multiple roles in one project with “They Cloned Tyrone,” a moment the British actor says had him in his “Eddie Murphy bag.”
“They Cloned Tyrone,” co-written by Juel Taylor and his writing partner Tony Rettenmaier, was the first time Taylor got to sit in the director’s chair for a feature film. The movie also provided Boyega with a career first of his own: the opportunity to play different characters in a sole project.
“It was fun, [I ] obviously approached all of them as individuals, and just made sure you’re consistently speaking to your director, so you don’t get them twisted,” Boyega said, whose character in film, Fontaine, has been cloned several times by the government.
“Yeah, I do good improvisations at home, in front of the family,...

The second season of ABC‘s Claim To Fame has already delivered plenty of jaw-dropping moments, but Monday’s (July 17) elimination might have been the most shocking yet. In a brutal elimination, Shayne was booted out of the competition by her closest friend on the show, Cole, who correctly guessed her celebrity relative as Eddie Murphy. The reality competition series sees 12 contestants, each with a famous relative, living together while trying to deduce which celebrities each other is related to. Each episode ends with a nominated “guesser” picking another contestant and announcing which celeb they think that person is related to. If the guesser is correct, the other contestant is eliminated. That’s what happened to Shayne on Monday’s episode after the clues (an actor who played Buckwheat and starred in Coming to America) led to Cole figuring out that Eddie Murphy was her father. Shayne knew her time...

The current state and future of Hollywood, according to director John Landis? Not so great. IndieWire reports (via Deadline) that Landis had some choice about the “pathetic state” of the industry. In short, the “Animal House” and “Coming To America” director thinks Hollywood is “in chaos” thanks to the current WGA writers’ strike and the long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on movie theaters.

Eddie Murphy is going pink.
The actor is in negotiations to star in Pink Panther, the MGM comedy based on the classic property. He would star as Inspector Clouseau.
Sonic the Hedgehog filmmaker Jeff Fowler is directing from a script by Chris Bremner, with Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin) producing via their Rideback banner. Larry Mirisch and Julie Andrews are also producing.
The Pink Panther films told the adventures of bumbling Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), with the first film involving a jewel called the Pink Panther. A cartoon panther appeared in the opening credits, and became popular in his own right, starring in cartoons over the decades.
According to sources, the new feature project would be a live-action/CG hybrid and would combine both traditions. The premise takes a buddy cop movie tone to the proceedings with the Inspector and Panther teaming up for the first time ever on the big-screen.
