When you see Jeff talking to his mother in front of the video store, video cassette boxes of films directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who produced this film uncredited, are shown. The videos include Rumble Fish (1983) and The Outsiders (1983), as well as Over the Edge (1979), which starred Matt Dillon in his debut role and others featured in the cast. A video advertisement for Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), which made its video debut in the fall of 1984 (while this film was made), can also be briefly seen.
Seven Minutes in Heaven (1986) was filmed in locations in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., under the working title of "Surprises" in the fall of 1984.
