Tony Ganios, best known for playing Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello in Porky’s, is dead at the age of 64. According to the actor’s fiancée Amanda, Tony was admitted to a hospital in New York on Saturday with a severe spinal cord infection but passed away of heart failure following surgery on Sunday.
“The last words we said to each other were, ‘I love you,’” Amanda wrote on X. “Love is an understatement. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul and my best friend.“
He made his feature-film debut in Philip Kaufman’s coming-of-age comedy-drama The Wanderers, which followed a group of Italian-American teenagers and their power struggles against rival gangs in the Bronx in 1963. The film was a success upon release, but its popularity grew over the decades as it developed a passionate following, even leading Warner Bros. to re-release the movie in 1996.

Tony Ganios, the actor who made his film debut in Philip Kaufman’s 1979 coming-of-age comedy-drama The Wanderers and played audience favorite Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello in the 1980s Porky’s sex comedy franchise, died Sunday following surgery at a hospital in New York. He was 64.
His death was announced on social media by his fiancée, Amanda Serrano-Ganios, who said that the actor fell ill last week, was hospitalized Saturday with a spinal cord infection, and passed away Sunday of heart failure.
Cast as one of the Bronx Italian-American street toughs in the 1963-set The Wanderers, based on the novel by Richard Price, Ganios became, for much of the ’80s, a go-to actor for directors looking for a touch of East Coast flavor. Ganios re-teamed with his Wanderers co-star Ken Wahl for a recurring role as a mob lawyer on Wahl’s 1987-90 crime series Wiseguy.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Before Harrison Ford dusts off his fedora and rethreads his trusty bullwhip for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, we’re looking back at the film that launched one of the most iconic action adventure franchises in Hollywood history, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The brainchild of George Lucas and his close friend, Steven Spielberg. Their collective vision for Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr. evolved from their love of old adventure serials. They saw Indy as an American equivalent of James Bond, an explorer who uncovers artifacts and punches Nazis instead of fighting for his queen and country and sleeping with the enemy.

Guys, don't freak out, but a grizzly bear nearly attacked your boyfriend Zac Efron. Obviously, and thankfully, he survived and he—and the work of Italian art that is his shirtless bod—emerged unscathed. The actor recalled the terrifying incident in a recent interview with People that was posted on Friday night. He said it took place on his and younger brother Dylan's recent trip to Montana to climb to the top of the Continental Divide. The two had visited Glacier National Park for a Columbia Sportswear ad campaign. "Out of nowhere, [we were like] 'Okay, that's a bear. Everybody stop.' And we all stood still," Efron...

The Efrons are back from an epic adventure.
In a new video in partnership with Columbia Sportswear, Zac Efron and his younger brother Dylan share memories from their latest trip to Glacier National Park in Montana as the brand’s newest gear testers.
Hitting the road in a van packed to the brim, the Efron brothers reminisce on their childhood.
“I grew up in a small town surrounded by wilderness, so for me the clearest way to reconnect with myself to find myself is through the wilderness,” says Zac. “We both get kinda cooped up in our lives.”

Few movies can boast a real-world impact, but "Gorillas in the Mist," the biopic of slain primatologist Dian Fossey, is one of them. Released 25 years ago (on September 23, 1988), the film alerted the world to the plight of the endangered Rwandan gorillas that she'd spent 20 years studying, prompting charitable efforts that have helped preserve the primates and conserve their habitat.
But as familiar as Fossey's story is (thanks to the movie), there's still much that remains shrouded in mystery, from the identity of Fossey's killer to how Sigourney Weaver was able to ingratiate herself with Fossey's own gorillas during the filming. Here's the details behind the film, including the hardships involved in making it, which gorillas were fake, and what became of the poacher-threatened primates after the movie crew left.
1. Producer Arne Glimcher and Universal had acquired the movie rights to "Gorillas in the Mist," Fossey's 1983 best-selling memoir. Glimcher traveled to...

Exclusive: Universal‘s Ted will have a slow international rollout. But studios sources tell me that during just three days of previews in Australia its Seth MacFarlane-Mark Wahlberg comedy grossed an estimated $4.485 million at 199 locations (with only 2 day and 2 evening sessions at best). “This is off the charts and the biggest preview business Australia has ever seen,” the exec says. For context, Fox‘s Ice Age 4: Continental Divide is estimated to have grossed $4.85 in Australia for four days in official release at 280 locations. (Fox passed on Ted even though MacFarlane is Bmoc at 20th TV and Fbc.) Ted opens next weekend in Australia officially and Taiwan. After thirty years, three terrible prequels and acres of spin-off material, the "Star Wars" brand has been somewhat tarnished. The fans are still legion, but it's become harder and harder to get excited about the series, and the highlights drift further and further from memory. That being said, we'll always a place for the original trilogy in our hearts, and much of that comes down to the second (or fifth) installment, 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" Despite the success of the original, creator George Lucas seemed to have taken some of the criticism to heart, a took a back seat for the follow-up, handing over the directorial reins to his old film school professor Irvin Kershner ("The Eyes of Laura Mars," "The Flim-Flam Man") and hiring veteran screenwriter Leigh Brackett and bright young thing Lawrence Kasdan, who'd come to fame thanks to his as-yet-unmade scripts for "The Bodyguard" and "Continental Divide.

Director Todd Phillips ("The Hangover") is developing a biopic about the late John Belushi.s life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights from Belushi's estate. Steven Conrad ("The Pursuit of Happyness") will write the script and Phillips will produce, although he has not committed to directing the film. Alexandra Milchan and Bonnie Timmerman are producing along with Phillips. Belushi was an original "Saturday Night Live" cast member from 1975 to 1979 and film star who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at age 33. His film credits include "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978), "1941" (1979), "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Continental Divide" (1981) and "Neighbors" (1981).His life was infamously detailed in Bob Woodward's 1985 biography, "Wired:...

The Hangover director/producer Todd Phillips is producing a biopic about the extrovert comedian John Belushi, who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at the age of 33. He'll be joined in the project by The Pursuit Of Happyness screenwriter Steven Conrad, who'll be penning the story of Belushi's dramatic life.
Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights from Belushi's estate after his widow, Judith, published a biography entitled Belushi in 2005. She will be an executive producer on the film, as Judith Belushi Pisano (she's since remarried).
Belushi was a member of the Second City comedy troupe before becoming a regular performer on Saturday Night Live in the mid to late 70s alongside colleagues Dan Aykroyd, Lorne Michaels and Chevy Chase. He then went on to pursue a film career, with his highlights including National Lampoon's Animal House, 1941, The Blues Brothers, Continental Divide and Neighbors.

John Belushi may be getting a (second) second life on the big screen.
"The Pursuit of Happyness" screenwriter Steven Conrad and "The Hangover" director-producer Todd Phillips are developing a biographical film about the late comedian's life. Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights from Belushi's estate.
Conrad will script the project and Phillips will produce, though he has not yet committed to directing it. Alexandra Milchan and Bonnie Timmerman are also producing.
In a typically difficult process that saw the rights deal come together, then fall apart, then come back together again, the project would be the latest attempt at a full-scale biopic about the "Saturday Night Live" cast member and film star who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at age 33.
Belushi's life was famously detailed in Bob Woodward's 1985 biography, "Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi." That book is not part of the rights deal,...

Even if you’ve never set foot in Yellowstone National Park, you know its iconic natural splendors: Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, and the like. What you may not know -- even if you’ve been there -- is that Yellowstone is the largest essentially untouched ecosystem in the lower 48 states. And while its status as a national park means its "protected," that doesn’t mean its 2.2 million acres are safe.
Far from it, in fact.
Think about it. Perched astride the Continental Divide in the northern Rockies that stretch into parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park, established in 1872. The year it opened, 300 curious visitors traversed the trails within its wilderness. Now, Yellowstone plays host to between 2 and 3 million people annually. Even those dubious of climate change can’t deny the impact of those crowds hiking and camping, to say nothing of all their minivans and RVs.

A Single Man
On the posters and advertisements, it might seem like a dramatic romance between Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, but A Single Man is actually the story of a college professor struggling through life after the death of his partner (Matthew Goode). In his review, Eugene Novikov pointed out the high and low points of the film: "despite the shaky start, Ford finds an elegant, striking way of bringing this material to the screen. Much of A Single Man is an elegiac tone poem, rendered haunting by Ford's beautifully composed images, and propelled by a gorgeous, somewhat Philip Glass-like musical score by little-known Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski." Rent it on DVD or Blu-ray.

Brooklyn's Finest
Antoine Fuqua whips up a drama that digs into what happens when three New York City cops (Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle) are involved in a huge drug operation.

Blair Brown has had an illustrious career from the outset, working steadily on stage, screen, and television. She won a Tony Award in 2000 for her multilayered performance as the wife of physicist Niels Bohr in Copenhagen and has been featured in 78 films and TV series. But she is most widely known as John Belushi's love interest in Continental Divide and the quirky title character in The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, a dramedy that enjoyed a cult following from 1987 to 1991. Now tackling Nina Sharp—an ambivalent figure in Fox's Fringe -- a sci-fi thriller along the lines of The X-Files -- Brown is clearly enjoying herself. "She has the possibility of being anything," Brown says cryptically, not willing to discuss whether her onscreen alter ego, the executive director of Massive Dynamic, is good, evil, or both. "The challenge is that the writing is so dense and so good.

HBO has teamed with filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Raoul Peck and novelist Russell Banks to tell the story of 19th century militant abolitionist John Brown, one of the most famous radicals in American history. Based on Banks' novel of the same name, Cloudsplitter centers on Brown's quest for political change and social justice that culminated in his ill-fated raid on Harpers Ferry. Peck, who gained critical acclaim for his 2000 feature Lumumba, is set to direct the telefilm and will executive produce with Scorsese and Banks. Peck is repped by WMA, manager Jonathan Brandstein and attorney Nina Shaw. Banks, whose writing credits also include the novels Affliction and Continental Drift, is repped by Endeavor. Scorsese is repped by the Firm.
