Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

It is never easy to say goodbye to a show that you have watched for many years. Even though all the characters got their endings (or new beginnings), it can still feel like the show could have been so much more if it hadn't been cut short.
Unfortunately, there's nothing fans can do to bring the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, Station 19, back to ABC after it airs its final episode on May 30. What you can do, however, is honor the show by looking back at some of the highest-rated episodes of all time, as rated from great to excellent by IMDb.
10. Trouble Man (S7E4) – 8.4/10
Directed by none other than the star of both Grey's Anatomy and Station 19, Stefania Spampinato, this episode remains one of the most creatively impressive and emotional episodes of the show. With the 24-hour shift, the team went through all the ups and downs, while...

Sam’s next assignment is to take out his legendarily ruthless predecessor, Charles Managold (Dolph Lundgren), who has fallen for his beautiful exotic mark and is now on the run with her. Nineteen had an incredibly harrowing day.
And we have an incredibly opinionated round table regarding Station 19 Season 7 Episode 4.
Maybe you'll love or loathe it, but no one holds back!
Join Ellie Mv, Heather M., and TV Fanatics Sara Trimble and Hailey Whitmire White as they discuss the episode in full!
What was your impression of this highly intense episode high on emotions?
Ellie: I'm going to sound heartless for saying that, but the episode has made me feel nothing on emotions. Why? Because the writers, the synopsis, and the trailers have the gift to make the episodes sound intense when it's not the case after watching it. And that's what happened with this episode.
Sara: I agree with Ellie: nothing, nada, zip. I see where they thought they were going with the emotional triggers. But I'm disassociated with the entire station.
I can't connect with anything or anyone this season.

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!
Knight and Day began, as with so many Hollywood screenplays, as a spec script, or a work that is uncommissioned but written in hopes of selling it to a studio (think...

The Alchemist has returned with Flying High, an eight-song EP featuring Earl Sweatshirt, billy woods, Boldy James, and more. Listen to the EP and check out the music video for the opening track “Rip Tracy” below.
With soulful samples galore, Flying High shows off The Alchemist’s ability to craft velvety, lyric-centric hip-hop. “Rip Tracy,” which features Earl and woods, places the rappers’ calculated flows in the spotlight, while tracks like “Bless” boast melodic, jazzy arrangements. T.F, Mike, Sideshow, Larry June, and Jay Worthy all appear on the EP as well.
Like previous Alchemist releases — such as Lunch Meat, Bread, and This Thing of Ours 2 — Flying High begins with four tracks featuring lyrics, followed by instrumental versions of the same four tracks. Splitting it up this way, it makes it all the more easy to appreciate the balance between lyricism and sheer musical prowess that The Alchemist has perfected.

Exclusive: The final season of Empire debuts tonight on Fox, but co-creator Lee Daniels is planning for the post-Lyons future with a new version of a seminal satire and thriller for FX.
Having optioned Sam Greenlee’s spy novel The Spook Who Sat By The Door in the summer of 2018 for a potential TV series, Lee Daniel’s production company has now named Leigh Dana Jackson to adopt the CIA tale for the small screen, I’ve learned. The 24: Legacy producer and Raising Dion co-ep will executive producer the intended series, as well as write it.
This new Tswsbtd is currently in development at the now Disney-owned John Landgraf-run cabler.
Having been born in 1969 as an acclaimed novel of the first African-American brought on board by the Agency and the tokenism and discrimination at the heart of that hire, the often scathing and provocative Tswsbtd was also made into a controversial 1973 film.

The son of the legendary Isaac Hayes is upset that there are no original Hayes tracks in the new “Shaft” movie, calling its soundtrack album “a cultural disaster.”
New Line Cinema, which made the movie — starring Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Roundtree and Jessie T. Usher as three generations of the Shaft family — insists that there is Hayes music all over the movie and soundtrack, even if no original tracks were licensed from the Hayes estate.
Isaac Hayes won a Best Song Oscar for his “Shaft” theme, written in 1971 for the original movie with Roundtree as a Harlem private eye. His score was also nominated, won two Grammys and launched an entire genre of blaxploitation movie soundtracks including Curtis Mayfield’s “Super Fly” and Marvin Gaye’s “Trouble Man.”
Hayes contributed a song to the 1972 sequel, “Shaft’s Big Score,” and re-recorded his original theme for director John Singleton’s 2000 reboot of the series with Jackson.

Nathaniel Taylor, the actor who played Rollo Lawson on the 1970s sitcom “Sanford and Son,” died Feb. 27 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. He was 80.
As part of the recurring cast on “Sanford and Son,” Taylor appeared in 32 episodes from 1972 through 1977. Taylor’s character, Rollo Lawson, was Lamont Sanford’s best friend and often a target of Fred Sanford’s ire, who believed Rollo was a criminal since he had spent time in jail. Fresh off their announcement of the GLAAD Media Awards at Sundance, GLAAD revealed today during the Park City fest that they have partnered with The Black List for the inaugural GLAAD List, a catalog of the most promising unmade Lgbtq-inclusive film scripts in Hollywood that have been hosted on blcklst.com or were included on the 2018 year-end annual Black List.
The curated list includes scripts about trans youth, HIV and AIDS, and Lgbtq icon Bayard Rustin. The scripts on The GLAAD List represent the type of stories that GLAAD would like to see studios producing.
“There is no more reputable source for discovering quality scripts in Hollywood than The Black List,” said Jeremy Blacklow, GLAAD’s Director of Entertainment Media. “The Black List’s commitment to elevating marginalized voices in the film industry is unparalleled and GLAAD is excited to lock arms with them in helping bring diverse Lgbtq stories to Hollywood’s attention.

Actor Ivan Dixon was a favorite of Rod Serling's, who cast him in The Twilight Zone twice. Dixon was black, and Serling fought to get minorities on TV in roles that weren't defined only by race. Dixon went on to become a prolific TV director himself, and made two features. Trouble Man (1972) is a not-particularly-ambitious blacksploitation pic that does everything it sets out to do with efficiency. The following year's The Spook Who Sat by the Door aims much, much higher, telling an epic, politically-charged story spanning years and leaping from Langley to Chicago. "Spook": racist epithet for an African American. Slang term for a spy. The set-up: a beleaguered politician decides to divert criticism by accusing the CIA of racism: they have no Black agents. So a recruitment drive is started, but many within the organization don't intend to allow any of the applicants to succeed. Most...

What goes around comes around, or something like that. The forever developing Marvin Gaye biopic "Sexual Healing" has once again switched out its lead, but this time has gone back the man who was originally tapped for the gig. Deadline reports that Jesse L. Martin (probably best known for stint on "Law & Order," but also a very accomplished Broadway vet) has replaced the recently cast Lenny Kravitz in the lead role. Back in 2008, the film was set to co-star Martin with James Gandolfini as Belgian promoter Freddy Cousaert, in the film that would chronicle Gaye's 1981 stint in Ostend, Belgium, where he recorded his biggest-selling album, Midnight Love. The relatively unknown Lauren Goodman was wrote the script (loosely based on the book "Trouble Man") and was going to direct, but was replaced somewhere along the way by the more experienced Julien Temple ("Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten," just one of...

Last night on Late Night, T.I. performed "Ball" off of Trouble Man with spasmodic fervor, though unfortunately sans Lil Wayne and his spasmodic fervor. Plus: Arnold Schwarzenegger doled out many a humorous diss — Jay Leno's "an idiot;" Chris Christie is not overweight, he's just water-retentive; and the state legislature comprises Johnny Knoxville-types and their jackass kin. Also, David Letterman called Don Rickles (out of the blue?) only to hang up on the poor guy as Regis Philbin sat stunned. Watch our compilation to see what you missed.

Maybe it hasn’t hurt Taylor Swift that the name of her album is one of the colors of Christmas: “Red” continues its lead on the Billboard 200 album sales chart for a sixth non-consecutive week. The set sold 276,000 copies, up 32% in sales over the previous week. That set beats out T.I.’s fresh set “Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head,” bowing at No. 2 with 179,000. Traffic: Mr. Fantasy Aka Heaven Is in Your Mind (Island)
Shortly after Steve Winwood quit the Spencer Davis Group (of which he was the lead singer and organist), he formed Traffic with some guys he'd jammed with at a club in Birmingham: guitarist/vocalist Dave Mason, saxophonist/flutist Chris Wood, and drummer/lyricist Jim Capaldi. After a couple of hit singles, they convened at a country cottage and put together the debut album by Traffic, titled Mr. Fantasy in their native country. By the time it was released, Mason had already quit.

Most stars crumble amid turmoil, and then are those who rise in spite of, impervious to fame's casualties.

So inspired by the trouble that's become the protagonist in his rap narrative, the Bankhead superstar named his forthcoming album "Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head."

After all the debates, controversies, and stereotype accusations have cleared, looking back on Blaxploitation cinema today it’s easy to see healthy portions of the crime and action genres. Using these genres and the struggles of the black community, these films were created for those that wanted to see African American characters on the big screen not taking shit from the man, “getting over”, and–above all else—being the heroes in movies. In the documentary Baad Asssss Cinema, Samuel L. Jackson gives his take on the heroes of Blaxploitation: “We were tired of seeing the righteous black man. And all of a sudden we had guys who were…us. Or guys who did the things we wanted those guys to do.”
The unsung supporting players in these films that backed Fred Williamson and Pam Grier and many other stars were people acting and making a living off of it.

Two rap songs of note were released into the wild last night: the monster "In the A," another cut of Big Boi's fast-approaching (and seemingly on schedule) Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, and "Sorry," off T.I.'s Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head. This is really T.I.'s day — he's also featured on "In the A," because that A is for Atlanta (Ludacris shows up, too) — but it will not go unnoticed that rap recluse/razor enthusiast Andre 3000 guests on "Sorry" and offers the following: "This the type of shit that'll make you call your rap partner/ and say I'm sorry I'm awkward/ my fault for fucking up the tour." The easier thing to do, Andre, would've been to carpool to the studio with Tip and then just say that to Big Boi on one of his songs, but okay. Just hit play at the same time,...

You’ll know Lenny Kravitz for his skilled musical output, flirting with Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, and for those little pirate earrings. Marvin Gaye… well, he’s the guy who guided you through countless awkward dates by means of the sexiest songs ever recorded. And now these two are set to unite, with Lenny Kravitz taking on the role of Marvin Gaye in upcoming biopic Sexual Healing (one that we hope, unlike the last four attempts, will actually get made).
Marvin Gaye, of course, is considered one of the great soul artists of all-time, though, like many of his contemporaries, he lived an often troubled and turbulent lifestyle. The biopic, to be directed by Julien Temple, will find its focus from the book Trouble Man, and will follow Gaye into the 80s, where drug addiction and industry tension were rife. Sexual Healing‘s musical rights have been reportedly sorted already,...

It certainly hasn't been for lack of trying that we haven't had a Marvin Gaye biopic. Cameron Crowe has been trying for years to get one made, while F. Gary Gray was also attached to helm a project titled simply "Marvin." But now it looks like Julien Temple is getting ahead of the pack with a leading man who has acting and musical chops. Lenny Kravitz will take the lead in the movie that has been brewing for a while now. Titled "Sexual Healing," at one time it was being shepherded by James Gandolfini with Jesse L. Martin in the lead, but they have both since moved on. Originally loosely based on the book "Trouble Man" (it's not clear who has drafted the latest script), the film will catch up with a drug-addicted Gaye, who had by the early '80s, had fallen out of favor with the music industry and its labels,...

Looks like Frank Ocean wasn't the only artist inspired by Quentin Tarantino's work. T.I.'s "Trouble Man" finally has an official cover and is a nod at gambling, war, gun violence and -- of course -- the movies. And like many movies, "Trouble Man" has a firm release date now: Dec. 18 has stayed put for at least a month, so now Atlantic and Grand Hustle can have a Christmas party. With that, the tracklist has been unveiled and is bursting with guest talent, particularly with some pop majors. Labelmate CeeLo Green is on there, with Pink, R. Kelly, Lil Wayne, Meek...

That T.I. "Trouble Man" album may just never come out. I think Warner's waiting for something to hit, and very little is; the rapper's "Go Get It" is no exception. Released today, the video and track featuring the "sophisticated convict" extolling his own riches since bouncing from the clink more than a year ago. Actor Jesse L. Martin fears his plans to produce and star in a biopic about legendary soul icon Marvin Gaye are not meant to be - because it's proving "impossible" to bring to fruition.
The former Law & Order star has been attached to Sexual Healing since 2008, when he signed on to help The Sopranos' James Gandolfini bring the tragic singer's life story, adapted from Steven Turner's book Trouble Man, to the big screen.
Controversial director Julien Temple took charge of the movie in February, taking over from previous filmmakers Cameron Crowe and F. Gary Gray, but the project has been hit by a series of problems and delays due to difficulties clearing the rights to Gaye's music.
And Martin admits he's no longer holding out for the role.
He tells WENN, "(Making the film is) impossible. It's just not... I don't know (if it'll happen). I mean, I just sort of threw that one up to the universe and said, 'If it's meant to be, it'll be', but it seems impossible to put together, it really does. It just hasn't happened."
Sexual Healing is just one of several Gaye biopics in the works, but Martin insists all of the films have faced the same licensing issues and he's now contemplating other ways to tell the story.
He says, "There's five or six (other Gaye projects) in the works. I actually feel less pressure. There's so many stories out there trying to happen that it just seems like it might be impossible. Nobody's done it yet. We haven't done it, nobody else has either, so there seems to be a reason you haven't seen that story on the big screen yet. I don't know what it is, but we're gonna have to change tactics and do it on stage, or something like that. That would actually be a great idea! So we'll see, we'll see."...
