Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Bianca Del Rio recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 8 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s ninth episode, former “All Stars” competitor, one-time host of “Pit Stop,” and season 13 alum Denali discusses where the competition stands as the makeover challenge brings the season down to two finalists. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, Denali makes the statement that Kandy Muse is someone who is perfect for television and was made for a competition show like “Drag Race.” Denali was also sympathetic to the decisions that the girls are making in terms of the competition being hard to navigate — she said she understands why Heidi N Closet would be like “peace out” and why Alexis Michelle and Kandy would choose alliances over taking out “the competition...

In their recap of the episode, Manila and Bianca gave Alexis Michelle a hard time about her decision to eliminate Lala Ri last week; Manila’s point being that if Alexis truly had a crush on her then she should have saved her just as a way of flirting! Bianca thought Alexis built a tactic that isn’t very strategic and suggested that perhaps Kandy Muse has a stronger hold over Alexis than we were aware of. Manila considered whether...

After 15 seasons of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and 13 international spinoffs, the franchise has launched the careers of over 400 fierce drag queens. As those performers grow their careers, a select lucky few are granted the opportunity to return to the competition to compete on the Paramount+ sister series: “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.”
So far the world has seen eight seasons of “All Stars,” with winners that include Alaska, Trixie Mattel, Shea Couleé, and Kylie Sonique Love. Given the wild success of the franchise, it’s safe to assume that plenty more fan favorites will be making return trips to the mainstage for more “All Stars” seasons. With only a few spots available for each iteration, here are 10 queens who simply must be invited back to the show for their chance at a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

Following Friday’s premiere episode, All Stars 2 winner and former “Pit Stop” host Alaska returns to dish the opening moments of the new season. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of episode 1, Bianca and Alaska started by critiquing the opening look choices that the queens made. Alaska was confused why Naysha Lopez put on a prison jumpsuit, favoring more the queens that extended their known brand in their looks, like Kahanna Montrese and Heidi N Closet. Alaska’s personal favorite though was Jaymes Mansfield‘s and Bianca preferred Jimbo for being different and fun. Then, for the “Famous Then” and “Famous Now” runway mini challenge, Alaska and Bianca both liked Alexis Michelle‘s looks most.

SkyShowtime will complete its European roll-out this month with two remaining launches in Spain and Andorra, Variety can reveal.
The two markets, which will launch on Feb. 28, take SkyShowtime’s footprint to over 20 markets and completes its European configuration, allowing the platform to now focus on building out a premium content offering that will help it compete with Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ in Europe.
The service is also establishing itself amid a turbulent time for one of its namesake brands. Paramount Global revealed earlier this month that legacy brand Showtime will be renamed as “Paramount+ With Showtime” in a bid to integrate streaming service Paramount+ across both linear and streaming platforms. Showtime co-presidents Gary Levine and Jana Winograde are also exiting their current posts amid the shake-up at the pay-tv channel.

Photo: 'The Ultimate Playlist of Noise'/Hulu If you knew you only had one month left to hear the world, what would you do first? Throughout watching ‘The Ultimate Playlist of Noise’, I tried to answer this question for myself- Dua Lipa’s new album that I’ve been repeating for the past week, my mother telling me that she loves me, cherished videos of concerts, or endless hours of my friends talking about meaningless chatter? As I sit to write this, I’m still not sure that I have my final answer. It’s okay, however, because director Bennett Lasseter and writer Mitchell Winkie have done a far more eloquent job at this almost incomprehensible task by giving us the gift of ‘The Ultimate Playlist of Noise’. Jack Hill gives us the lowdown on one of his most belatedly popular movies, which took several years to make it to the drive-ins, largely because it was shot in black-and-white. Filmed under the title The Winner, it’s a gritty, no-frills drag racing saga set around the dangerous Figure Eight Races, which seem designed to promote crowd-pleasing car crashes. Veteran character actor Brian Donlevy’s final film and Ellen Burstyn’s first (under the name Ellen McRea).

Following on from a July where they added a large number of horror titles to their catalogue, Hulu have now made available even more great outings from the genre. As with all the major streaming players, keeping subscribers happy with new content during this Covid-19 year has been crucial, especially given the new competitors that have sprung up in recent months, further splintering film rights. Hulu are usually pretty reliable in terms of diversity, though, and have added some particularly strong horror titles for August.
Among the highlights for new movies is the original 1988 Child’s Play, which introduced the murderous Chucky to the world in a film that arguably remains the high-point of the franchise. A reasonably realistic setting, a convincing child performance and some excellent effects work make Child’s Play a classic of the period and more than worth a rewatch. And with the Chucky series on the way,...

Of course, those genres explored by Hawks—from westerns to screwball comedies—were considerably different than those in which Hill excels, but the point is well taken: within his respective niches, Hill does it as well as anyone, with skill and without pretense. This includes quintessential Blaxploitation classics like Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974), and some of the finest women-in-prison films ever made—yes, there are some very fine women-in-prison films—namely The Big Doll House (1971) and The Big Bird Cage...

★★★☆☆Pit Stop, a 1969 collaboration between B-movie king Roger Corman and director Jack Hill (renown primarily for his work across a number of Blaxploitation titles), represents something of a dream pairing for trash cinema aficionados. With its intriguing Faustian-like plot, stunning stock car racing footage and memorable performances, including a young, very beautiful Ellen Burstyn (credited here as Ellen McRae), Pit Stop proves to be a cut about the usual low-grade genre works from that period in Us cinema. Weathered James Dean lookalike Richard Davalos plays Rick Bowman, a young tearaway (at 39) who has a penchant for fast cars and a talent for pushing them to their extremes.

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 8
“My Cheese Is Out of Control”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The challenge when analyzing teams on The Amazing Race is realizing that survival is all that truly matters. Pairs have bumbled their way across the globe but ended up winning it all because they never finished last. The latest players to fit this description are Chuck and Wynona, who have remained near the back of the pack throughout this season. Even when they’ve finished higher, it’s been the result of struggles from other teams. This week, their luck finally runs out because of a penalty at the mat. The amazing thing is that they almost survive once again. When an exhausted Joey and Meghan struggle to find the Pit Stop, it gives the Alabama couple another shot to grab a life boat. This time, they aren’t so lucky and face an unfortunate exit.

“Be Safe and Don’t Hit a Cow”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
In some of its best seasons, Survivor thrives on making its strong competitors look silly. Players talk about being in control and running the show, then they’re immediately booted by the “weaker” contestants. This trend rarely happens on The Amazing Race, which frequently has teams dominate the seasons. There are notable exceptions like the Beekmans’ win last season, but it isn’t uncommon to watch a team roll through challenges and stay near the top of the pack. The audience believes the smart and physically capable players will do well, especially in the race’s first half. Those expectations have been thrown out the window in the 22nd installment. John and Jessica rolled through the early episodes and then self-destructed in stupendous fashion. David and Connor were clearly...

South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas is truly a unique festival and 2013 was my first full experience despite living here for the past few years. You’ll hear the horror stories of long lines, tough venue locations, overpriced concessions, and the traffic, oh the traffic. Fortunately there are more positives than negatives thanks to the amazing opportunities afforded by a film festival with such a vast range of genre, excellent weather and tacos.
We had the opportunity to see movies about magicians, horror remakes, Disney actresses snorting cocaine off naked bodies, documentaries about punk bands, a Big Ass Spider, and the new Shane Carruth flick which I am still processing. That’s just a taste of what this year’s lineup offered. It’d be a little difficult to only showcase seven films from an overall excellent year, so I’ve taken the Top 7 Most Memorable Moments of SXSW 2013 whether it be trends,...

Mars, last at SXSW with his directorial debut, the Dallas Cowboys documentary "America's Parking Lot," spent the bulk of his time at SXSW this year shelling his lead role in the moving dramedy "Good Night," co-starring "Girls" regular Alex Karpovsky. On the feature front, Mars also had supporting parts in "Pit Stop," "A Teacher" and "Computer Chess," all of which premiered in Park City before making their way to Austin (and all of which were made in Texas). And on the short front, he played a heavy metal rocker in "Black Metal," and appeared in "Follow" and "Hell No." What's Next: "I just did a couple days on David Gordon Green...

Chris Brown & Big Pat’s Bermuda Pit Stop
The Bermuda Sun writes that Chris’ plane arrived on the island at 1:30pm to re-fuel, and during this stop, the alleged incident took place. An airport worker and “trusted source” tells the paper,...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 2
“Loose Lips Sink Ships”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When did taking the penalty become so common on The Amazing Race? Two episodes into this season, players seem very interested in avoiding tasks. Idries and Jamil barely slip into the water and they’re ready to take a six-hour penalty. Their fear of water and limited swimming abilities make diving for pearls nearly impossible. While their struggles are understandable, they seem far too willing to give up right away. They eventually give the Detour a shot, but it’s their passive approach that raises warning signs. By the time they switch to the other option, the gap is too large. Apparently, picking them to win the race was not a wise idea. They’re hardly the only players who struggle, however. Three teams took a penalty last week, and several others grumble through this leg.

The Amazing Race mantra is often "never give up," but three teams didn't get the memo on the Season 22 premiere. After hours of searching through 400 sandcastles for a clue to no avail, newlyweds Max and Katie, country singers Caroline and Jennifer, and firefighters Matt and Daniel agreed to quit the Roadblock and take a four-hour penalty so they could move on to the next task and start on even ground to stay in the Race. Unfortunately for the firefighters, it was a bad call, as the next task was to row to the Pit Stop in a tiny Bora Bora canoe called a va'a that could not handle their weight. "The other teams probably didn't weight 100 pounds with both of them in it," Daniel tells TVGuide.com. "It was 600 pounds between me and Matt and a French guy [in the boat with us]." Still, the two insist that they don't regret throwing in the towel.

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 1
“Business in the Front, Party in the Back”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Each new premiere of The Amazing Race brings its own share of excitement and questions. Will the cast have exciting characters? Will the challenges stand apart from the standard formula? Will the producers offer new twists that change the game? All three of these boxes haven’t been checked as often in recent seasons. There have been thrilling challenges and standout players, yet the results have been inconsistent. This new group is filled with lively teams that have their own unique stories, but the challenges dominate the opener. A brutal Roadblock pushes three pairs to take a four-hour penalty and choose a dangerous boat race to the Pit Stop. While the risk pays off for two of them, it sends firefighters Matthew and Daniel right to elimination. The well-meaning...

While much excitement (and the last edition of this column) has been devoted to the handful of generally fantastic new queer films -- "C.O.G," "Concussion," "Interior. Leather Bar," "Pit Stop," "Kill Your Darlings," "God Love Uganda" -- to come out of last week's Sundance Film Festival, the fact of the matter is that it's gonna be a while before any of these films actually hit theaters. But there is one great Lgbt-focused film you can go see right now (at least if you're in New York, though soon enough in most other major cities): Eytan Fox's "Yossi," a sequel-of-sorts to his 2002 film "Yossi & Jaggar." "Yossi" quietly premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last April, where it was picked up by Strand Releasing. It came out in New York last weekend to rather little fanfare, but it's definitely worth seeking out. I wasn't the biggest fan of its.

A phrase often heard at the Sundance Film Festival is "how to fest," and lesson number one that I've learned is that being on time isn't good enough, be early. A few times I've had ample time before an event, and filled in the gap with the frivolity of eating a meal. What I've then found is that I miss a couple of small events that fill up -- nothing major, but not the ideal scenario. Thankfully Sundance has so much to experience that flexibility is key, as you never know who you may meet on the shuttle bus or in line at a screening.
A highlight of my Sunday: Day Four was the Texas Party, presented by the Austin Film Society and Texas Monthly, and crowded with Austin and Texas filmmakers such as the Arts + Labor crew (seen above) including cast and crew from Pit Stop, Hearts of Napalm and Black Metal.

[Premiere Screening: Monday, Jan. 21, 2:45pm -- Prospector Square Theatre, Park City] I was in psychotherapy for a year before going into production on Pit Stop, mainly to deal with my insecurities and unresolved angst as an artist. By the time we began shooting, I still wasn’t sure if I was fully prepared to tackle the stress, the uncertainty, and the frustration of making another independent film. The most significant sacrifice I had to make then was my mental health. I felt a lot more vulnerable throughout the process, and in hindsight, thought it was a sign of weakness that I …...

Most of today’s horror fans are very aware of Sid Haig and his role as the notorious Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses (2003) and The Devil’s Rejects (2005). But what many fans aren’t aware of is that Sid Haig’s career dates back to 1960 with over 60 film and over 350 television appearances. He’s been in the business for over 50 years and has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Lon Chaney Jr., Omar Sharif, Sean Connery, George Lucas, and Quentin Tarantino. Haig started making a name for himself while working with director Jack Hill in his exploitation films such as Spider Baby (1968), Pit Stop (1969), The Big Doll House (1971), and The Big Bird Cage (1972). I wanted to X those twins so hard. Curse you, Nel!
Previously, on The Amazing Race: Three gay guys (plus 19 other people) set off on a racearoundtheworld for One! Million! Dollars! Ten legs, eight countries and around 20,000 miles later, after eating fish fallopian tubes, riding adongadongs, dancing in lion masks, hauling bamboo, bathing like Turks, swimming in synch, being robbed blind, playing with street organs, battling devils and charging matadors, all three members of Team Gay made it to the finals. Along with Brent & Josh and Jaymes & James, the thieving twins Natalie & Nadiya and the thieving Texans Trey & Lexi comprise the Final Four.
Trey & Lexi are the first to rip their clue at 9:32 Am. They are instructed to fly to Barcelona and from there take a train to the Loire Valley in France. Wait, there's an airport on Mallorca? That ferry ride last Leg was complete bullshit. Team...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 21, Episode 10, “Not a Well-Rounded Athlete”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
One of the most exciting episodes of The Amazing Race typically happens right before the finale where four teams battle to make the last leg. That appears to be the likely scenario this week, but it’s really just setting the stage for the two-hour conclusion. There’s little at stake beyond placement, and a bunching flight brings everyone close together. Even so, there’s plenty of fun within the challenges to keep it enjoyable. The teams fly to Barcelona and take an overnight ferry to the island of Mallorca, the home of Rafael Nadal. It’s interesting to note the significant gap at the start, which puts each pair on a different flight. Josh and Brent begin about seven hours after Natalie and Nadiya yet finally catch up due to the ferry’s late starting time.

So long, Ryan & Abbie. We'll always remember you as the team too generic to generate a nickname.
Previously on The Amazing Race, teams traveled from Moscow to Amsterdam. Natalie & Nadiya launched their careers as supervillains, hatching a dastardly scheme to ensure Ryan & Abbie's Philimination and winning the Leg via Fast Forward before some teams had even left Moscow. Jaymes & James wrestled with their consciences (sadly neither nudity nor oil were involved) and carried out their part in the twins' plan by U-Turning Team No-Nickname before finishing 2nd. Trey & Lexi sealed the deal and took 3rd place by U-Turning Team Chippendale and foreclosing Ryan & Abbie's only opportunity. Not that it mattered since not one but two blown connections out of Germany broke the team, leading them back into their baffling Beekman Boys bond. The teams raced together until the U-Turn perfidy was discovered. Josh seriously considered sticking with the...

When did The Amazing Race become Survivor? The leading teams basically voted Abbie and Ryan out by removing the “double” part of the Double U-Turn. While losing an arrogant team usually is refreshing, they still get a raw deal. Even without the flight delays, there is little chance that Abbie and Ryan could survive. Jaymes and James do the official U-Turn on them, but it’s really Trey and Lexi that seal the deal. Instead of picking the goat farmers or skipping it, they purposely choose a team ahead of them. It’s a smart plan that removes a strong team, yet it still leaves a hollow feeling. Blaming the players isn’t fair since they’re just using the devices put in place by the producers. They want to create inter-team drama and aren...

Never has Photoshopping a couple of red Xes been so tinged with sorrow.

Jaymes & James secured their first win with Trey & Lexi right behind them. James & Abba were unable to locate or replace their missing travel documents and sadly, Team Headbang was Philiminated.

Last week’s episode concluded with three teams still trying to finish the leg. Brent was having no luck in the pool, and James and Abba were standing dumbfounded at the mat without a passport. Their chances for locating their bags are very low, and getting temporary documents from the embassy is a long shot. The rockers try to stay positive, but this feels like a case where the editors are creating tension where it doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, Josh and Brent take one last shot at the Detour and aren’t getting any leeway from the judge. They take the four-hour penalty and move on to the Roadblock with Abbie and Ryan. The lying thieving twins got away with pinching Team Headbang's money and landed at the Pit Stop in 3rd. Speaking of, James & Abba continued their unlucky streak when a cabbie absconded with James's passport and other possessions preventing them from checking in at the Amazing Mat. [Note: Dan is on vacation, so Myles McNutt is filling in for this week's "The Amazing Race" recap.] When last week’s “Amazing Race” ended with “To Be Continued,” it was a different ending than we’re used to seeing with that particular phrase: whereas sometimes the show has done this when a leg gets extended (and the “Pit Stop” becomes a halfway point), in this case it was to put off the inevitable conclusion temporarily. Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
In a fast-paced competition like The Amazing Race, conventional wisdom might suggest that it’s wise to avoid getting stuck with the pack. However, the chaos and confusion actually make this false thinking in most cases. Teams that believe they can outperform the others in challenges should want to stay with the group. This approach ensures that they’re following the right path and aren’t venturing into unknown territory. There are rare exceptions where a team is so powerful that they can grab a big lead and force others to follow. Season five’s Colin and Christie are a good example of this approach. They realized that few teams could stay with them and took charge to win most of the legs. On the other hand, there are less skillful players that...

Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
A common question among long-time fans of The Amazing Race asks why the later seasons feel so different. Along with a faster-paced editing and more gimmicks, the main changes have involved the casting. The producers look more for characters of a specific type than the “regular people” approach of the early years. These contestants are frequently recruited and don’t always understand the show. This leads to a lot of mistakes and manufactured drama, but that doesn’t mean it’s a better series. Ardent fans usually wish for more applicants who love the show in place of over-the-top characters. The tricky part is that super fans aren’t always more interesting contestants. While the general concept is positive, this move can backfire and lead to inept and dull racers. Viewers may hate a crazy team,...

The team dubbed "Long Hair, Don't Care" took a huge gamble this week on "The Amazing Race." They were nowhere near the front of the pack when they came upon the "Fast Forward." If anybody had taken it on before them, they'd have wasted all that time, and have to go back to continue on the regular course. But they've been playing their own game all along, and this gamble paid off.
Despite being the fifth team to see the choice to try it, they were the first and only team to try it. All they had to do was gather some dead rats from various locations and head to the Pit Stop. So they did, with minimal concern about the disgusting rats they were dealing with.
In fact, they joked that in their rock-and-roll lives they've dealt with many rats, so this was nothing new to them. For their efforts,...
