One of the last (and least ambitious) movies to be made by Enterprise Studios, a new and short-lived film company in post-war Hollywood which produced some distinguished films, but only one popular hit ("Body And Soul" in 1947). Lewis Milestone claimed that the film was made chiefly "to keep Enterprise ticking over" and hinted that a great deal of it was improvised.
