Four Faces West was Harry Sherman's last film. He died on 25 Sep 1952. According to modern sources, Sherman, who had made his reputation as a producer of low budget Westerns, was particularly proud of the million-dollar Four Faces West. The picture, however, was a box office flop. Contemporary reviews commented favorably on the film's lack of violence and its attempt to portray the period authentically.
One of thirty feature films produced between 1946 and 1948, including several from Enterprise Studios, whose financial failure resulted in their ownership being taken over by Bank of America for non-payment of loans, and subsequently sold to Mundus Television in 1954 for television broadcast at a reported total of $45 million.
