I might be wrong but I think this film is little known at least compared to other wartime made British war films.
People who find In Which We Serve to be old fashioned should watch this and see how good In Which We Serve really is.
The film concerns the Royal Navy and its aircraft carriers in early world war 2.
It would be too easy to be critical of this film with regard to the special effects and the upper class style of the way the officers are shown.
Compared to later Ealing films this film looks dated but it is worth watching.
It is worth watching for the quick pace of the story and the committed way the actors perform in it.
It is interesting for the stock footage of HMS Ark Royal and its aircraft.
Many of the cast became much better known in later years.
I am not that familiar with Jane Baxter but unlike some reviewers here I think she was very pretty.
Of course the battle scenes in the film are fictional and unrealistic.
But anyone doubting the successes of the Royal Navy in this period should look into the actions at Taranto and Cape Matapan.
It could be said that the Japanese learned from Taranto and the Americans did not.
