The holidays are about to get merrier for fans of Harry Connick Jr. and Cole Porter. The living half of that duo will begin a limited engagement at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre this December, highlighting – as does his upcoming album – the work of the great “Anything Goes” composer.
Harry Connick, Jr. – A Celebration of Cole Porter was announced today by producers Connick Performances, James L. Nederlander and Grove Entertainment. The new show was conceived and is being directed by Connick, who releases True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter in October as his first album for Verve Records.
“I am beyond excited to be returning to the stage to share my interpretation of the work of a true American genius,” said the former American Idol judge.

Following the selection of Dutch director Steven Wouterlood as one of Variety‘s 10 Europeans to Watch, we have been given exclusive access to the trailer to his feature debut, “My Extraordinary Summer With Tess.” The coming-of-age tale premieres in the Generation section of the Berlin Film Festival, and receives a theatrical release by September Film in the Benelux countries and by Farbfilm in Germany in the fall. Picture Tree Intl. is handling world sales on the movie.
The film, based on the novel by Anna Woltz, centers on Sam and his friend Tess. Afraid of being left alone as the youngest of the family, Sam begins to train for “aloneness” while on holiday on a Dutch island. There he meets the elusive Tess, who harbors a big secret. “Sam is drawn into an adventure that makes him realize that you should cherish your family instead of fleeing [from it],” according to Picture Tree.

Randy Houser remembers exactly where he was when he decided to throw it all away. Following a string of populist country radio hits, he became fed up with how he was expected to perform them live: shored up with various computerized bells and whistles that were meant to help him compete with his peers and their outsized live shows.
“We were playing along to all these tracks,” Houser says. “I walked out there one day and felt like I was a freaking puppet. I called my manager and said, ‘Take all these damn machines back.

Randy Houser returns to bluesy big-voiced ballads like his 2008 breakout hit “Anything Goes” and the 2010 album cut “Somewhere South of Memphis” on his new song “No Good Place to Cry,” a track off his upcoming LP Magnolia. The Mississippi native recently released the song by setting it to footage from a dramatic film — also titled Magnolia — that serves as a companion piece to the album.
A sparse, soulful ballad, with minimal guitar and organ accompaniment, “No Good Place to Cry” finds Houser lamenting the end of a relationship and the...

Sam Elliott sat quietly in his elegant tux at the Warner Bros. table, where Clint Eastwood was making “Crazy Rich Asians” star Michelle Yeoh laugh. But the “A Star Is Born” Oscar contender was not in a jovial mood. “The fire came over the Malibu ridge,” he said. He and wife Katharine Ross stayed to save their house by pouring water on it. “But we have no power. This all seems very surreal.” He knows many others who did lose their homes.
The ongoing fires cast a pall over the 10th annual Governors Awards, which is a night for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to congratulate its own without worrying about winning or losing. The Governors Awards celebrated five icons on Sunday night at Hollywood & Highland, but cut back the red carpet to photos only due to the California wildfires. Riverdale has been filled with musical numbers this season, and we're not exactly complaining. While the Riverdale Vixens' rendition of Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" garnered a few mixed reactions, we're all here for the show's latest performance. In the upcoming episode, "As Above, So Below," Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) takes to the stage to perform a sultry version of the Broadway showtune, "Anything Goes" from the 1934 musical of the same name. If her stunning outfit doesn't make your jaw drop, her voice certainly will. Now, if only we could get the rest of the Pussycats back together for even more show-stopping numbers!

Veronica’s speakeasy finally opens its doors this week on Riverdale — and Betty and Jughead try to open a door to the past that their parents want to keep shut.
Drowning in bills, Veronica worries about how she’s going to keep Pop’s afloat, but confesses to Betty that she hasn’t unveiled the speakeasy yet because she was waiting for Archie to get out first. Betty prods her to open it up anyway, and it does look pretty great: Veronica calls it La Bonne Nuit (ooh la la!

Josie sings, evil grows, and Archie makes some new pals in a weirdly uneven installment of Riverdale.
This Riverdale review contains spoliers.
Riverdale Season 3 Episode 3
First things first: Tonight's episode of Riverdale might have been the most disjointed installment of the show to date.
Balancing an unreasonable amount of plot points like they were plates of food being delivered to patrons at Pop's is usually a feat that this series is able to handle with skill. But then again, things have never been as weird on the show as they are all right now -- what with both a cult and a suicide-inducing RPG taking over the town and all.
So it's a bit jarring to go from the high stakes of characters drinking cyanide to a storyline about a nightclub opening..
It's not that we aren't jazzed about the arrival of La Bonne Nuit -- okay, we kinda aren't...

Watch as Josie breathes new life into the Cole Porter favorite in this extended Riverdale clip.
As a Riverdale fan and critic, it's not always easy to get behind some of the plotlines the show has thrown at me so far. A maple syrup blood feud? Sure, why not? Archie's unrelenting stupidity? Ummm, weird but I guess.
Veronica running a speakeasy in the bottom of Pop's though? I've not been a fan of this plan since first I learned of it last season. You see, part of the thing that I love about Riverdale are its head-scratching musical performances by the cast that come out of nowhere and work only because the internal logic of the show is so goofy.. So when I heard that Ronnie would be opening up her own secret club at Pop's I immediately had Peach Pit After Dark flashbacks. It would be incredibly off-putting to see,...

The Tony Awards give out four top awards each year: Best Play, Best Play Revival, Best Musical, and Best Musical Revival. These are the most coveted categories for producers hoping a win will help turn a profit on their investment. But due to a dearth of classic musicals on the boards this season, Broadway’s top honors may be ditching one of their most sought after categories.
Roundabout Theatre Company is staging a highly anticipated revival of “Kiss Me, Kate” this spring. This iteration of the classic Cole Porter tuner stars Tony winner Kelli O’Hara (“The King and I”) and Tony nominee Will Chase (“The Mystery of Edwin Drood”), with direction from the esteemed Scott Ellis. It has all the makings of a lush, feel-good production that could walk away with the Musical Revival category. The only problem is that “Kiss Me, Kate” is the only announced revival of a musical this season.

While new albums from Paul McCartney and Eminem led last week’s Billboard 200 album chart, the entry at Number Three, besting the week’s chart placement by megastars Drake and Ariana Grande, comes from the somewhat unlikely realm of Christian music. Lauren Daigle, whose Lafayette, Louisiana, upbringing exposed her to country, Cajun and zydeco music, debuted on the chart with her sophomore studio LP, Look Up Child, selling an impressive 115,000 units. That’s the best showing for a female Christian album since LeAnn Rimes topped the Billboard 200 in 1997 with You Light Up My Life.
