Releasing on May 14, 2024, The Pillowcase Murders is a somewhat unusual three-part docuseries.
Many true crime movies and series in the past have documented the crimes of well-known serial killers like Btk, but this one brings to light the crimes of a much lesser-known serial killer.
Here is the true story behind the Pillowcase Murders.
What Were the Pillowcase Murders?
The Pillowcase Murders were a string of no less than 22 murders and two attempted murders committed in Texas between 2016 and 2018.
Sadly, the victims were all older women. Each was smothered with her pillow before the assailant stole her valuables and fled.
Some of the women died in their own homes or independent apartments, but many were residents of senior living facilities.
The crime spree went unsolved for two years due to a combination of factors, including incorrect assumptions and alleged mishandling of investigations.

Many things about the movie Civil War are meant to be incendiary. The very concept of the movie, which has been released during an election year when the political culture could seemingly mirror the extreme reality of the film, is enough to make a general movie goer feel uneasy. There is dynamic imagery in the trailers that showcase American cities in peril, and although that can be seen in almost any high-budget action movie, these sequences hit differently. However, with everything that Civil War does to illicit an uncomfortable response from an audience, a controversy has recently come from the less likely place — the way they made their marketing.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a new ad campaign for the movie has been getting a lot of negative attention online. Civil War has released five new posters that aim to depict some haunting situations of American cities in shambles due to the war.

A24 has released a series of epic new posters touting its acclaimed film Civil War.
There’s just one problem. Well, perhaps more than one. Or none, depending on your point of view. We’ll explain.
The five images (below) tease postapocalyptic scenes in major United States cities that have been torn apart by conflict. The Sphere is blackened wreck amid a smoldering Las Vegas. There is a floating gun unit in a lake outside Los Angeles. There are troops on patrol in San Francisco. A Miami street lays in ruins. There are tour boats full of refugees on the Chicago River. All scenes suggesting war-torn destruction in iconic locations.
Except … none of these scenes are actually in the movie. They’ve caused some to wonder if the campaign is giving potential moviegoers a false expectation of what they’ll see in the film. Civil War is A24’s most expensive production to date,...

One of the most expressive, luminous performances in all of silent cinema is that of Louise Brooks in G. W. Pabst’s Pandora’s Box. Now, thanks to a new restoration, audiences will have a chance to rediscover the 1929 masterpiece. Ahead of a theatrical release beginning at Film Forum on Valentine’s Day, Janus Films has unveiled the new trailer and poster for the restoration.
Here’s the synopsis: “One of the masters of early German cinema, G. W. Pabst had an innate talent for discovering actresses (including Greta Garbo). And perhaps none of his female stars shone brighter than Kansas native and onetime Ziegfeld girl Louise Brooks, whose legendary persona was defined by Pabst’s lurid, controversial melodrama Pandora’s Box. Sensationally modern, the film follows the downward spiral of the fiery, brash, yet innocent showgirl Lulu, whose sexual vivacity has a devastating effect on everyone she comes in contact with.

From executive producers Craig Turk’s Thinking Hat Productions, Anne Beagan’s Anne Beagan Productions, and Shawn Efran’s Efran Films Canada, FBI True peels back the layers of notorious and gritty cases from the eyes and hearts of the agents who worked them.
Through interviews and features on the show, the series has spun a community of connectivity that was a happy surprise for producers.

Ever since Tyler Stanaland and Brittany Snow announced their split after two years of marriage in September 2022, the status of Stanaland's relationship with his "Selling the Oc" costar Alex Hall has been thrown into question.
Throughout season one of Netflix's hit show "Selling the Oc," Stanaland and Hall's friendship became a major topic of conversation, with many criticizing their flirtatious behavior and calling it "inappropriate." At the time of Stanaland and Snow's separation, a source told People that their breakup was caused by him being on the show. "Brittany never wanted Tyler on the show but he was adamant," the source told People. "He wanted to make a name for himself on his own terms."
Another insider told the outlet, "They're fully over. All of the girls [on the show] are obsessed with him. He's been trying to be really respectful but it's taken a toll on his marriage 100 percent."

Let's get something out of the way: Kuwait, and other countries within the Gulf, ban films all the time for featuring Lgbtqia+ characters and themes. Best Picture winner "Everything Everywhere All At Once" was banned for Joy's queerness (and moments like the butt-plug battle), "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" was banned for Gwen and her father's trans pride flags, "West Side Story" was banned for making the tomboy member of the Jets into a canonical trans character, and Marvel's "Eternals" was banned after refusing to cut its gay elements. At this point, it's not a surprise to read a headline about a film being banned in a region ruled by an oppressive regime, but in the case of the buzzy A24 horror film "Talk to Me," the ban is not about content, but a casting choice.
The film is not being banned because it's legitimately horrifying and features extreme moments, but...

Just when you thought Netflix’s “Black Mirror” references couldn’t get more real, Netflix has pulled a “Joan Is Awful” by including terrifying — and familiar — terms and conditions to its new show-based experience.
The “Black Mirror” experience, launched Tuesday following the release of Season 6 last week, enables fans to get the full “Joan Is Awful” treatment by seeing their own faces on the Streamberry streaming platform.
The website takes after the Season 6 episode “Joan Is Awful,” which centers on an ordinary woman named Joan (Annie Murphy) who is shocked to see her life depicted on a new show by the one and only Salma Hayek.
Netflix made a splash with the announcement, changing their Twitter name to “Streamberry US” (the streaming service referenced within the Season 6 installment) and drawing attention to their new profile picture, which features a red “S” à la Netflix’s “N.”

“I told them it just seems a little too obvious,” Coleman tells TVLine with a laugh, emphasizing that Peia (aka Bruno Mannheim’s wife) is literally in the villain’s name. “But it worked, so kudos to the writers. People really didn’t get it until they got it.”

BTS member J-Hope is reporting for military duty. The K-pop star shared a selfie showing off his new buzz cut and a message for fans as he began his 18-month mandatory military service in South Korea on Tuesday.
“I’ll be back in good health,” reads the caption on his Instagram, translated from Korean.
The artist, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, follows in the footsteps of the group’s eldest member, Jin, who began his military service in December.
Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men are required to perform 18 to 21 months of military service. BTS members had already been granted a two-year extension on their government-mandated military service, with top-performing athletes and musicians occasionally granted exemptions.

L’amour a la mer (1964). Courtesy of Lobster Films. There is a strange paradox in the popular consciousness of the French New Wave. On the one hand, the nouvelle vague is renowned as an explosion of new filmmaking talent in France. From the late 1950s to the mid-1960s, as so many histories of cinema tell us, masses of young directors debuted their work on the screens of France and then the world. After a decade and a half of sclerosis in the film industry, with rigid hierarchies and guild rules that prevented the emergence of directors who had not slowly made their way through the career rungs of the studios, a new generation burst onto the scene, upending the rules of filmmaking and forming a template for so many future new waves in the rest of the world. In many accounts, it is presented as something of a mass movement.

Growing up in a traditional Chinese (and predominantly Mandarin speaking) household and under a father who loved the comedy and action genres, references to Stephen Chow, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jackie Chan always spring up from time to time. Having inherited my father’s love for comedy, my family would never miss out on a chance to catch a Chinese comedy flick whenever one aired on television. As much as Rowan Atkinson (who has played the characters of Mr. Bean and Johnny English) is recognised as an irreplaceable icon of British comedy, I firmly believe that Stephen Chow is the same for Hong Kong cinema.

Out of the numerous films that Stephen Chow has starred in, Jeffrey Lau’s “A Chinese Odyssey Part 1: Pandora’s Box” continues to be one of the most intriguing and timeless in both its plot and humour.

After missing out on the 2020 haunt season due to the pandemic, Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights came roaring back last week as it successfully launched its 2021 season with a handful of fantastic mazes and Scare Zones that are primed to scare the pants off SoCal residents in the coming weeks. Daily Dead was there for the opening night of Ush’s Halloween Horror Nights, and we have a ton of photos to share with you and this writer will dive into all the highlights from the event.
For Hhn 2021, John Murdy and his team changed things up a bit so this year, most of the mazes are located on the Upper Lot, which made things a lot easier while getting around to all the different haunts. Ugo Bienvenu (aka Ugo), the popular French illustrator and comics author of “Préférence système,” is partnering up with veteran producer Valerie Schermann on his animated feature debut “Arco.”
An ambitious science-fiction film, “Arco” is being co-developed and co-produced by Remembers, the outfit launched by Bienvenu and Félix de Givry, and Schermann at Akaba. The project was previously presented by the Cartoon Movie forum and has already sparked interest from several distributors.

It’s Marlene Dietrich, before Josef von Sternberg and The Blue Angel — and much of her mystique is already present. This sophisticated German silent observes a precarious, dangerous love triangle. Two men are entranced by the same woman: one deserts his bride on their wedding night and the other may have killed to possess her. Neither seems to get what he wants, yet Dietrich’s ‘woman one longs for’ is not a scheming femme fatale … maybe. The fluid, very modern direction of Curtis Bernhardt will be a revelation — this obscure Marlene Dietrich starrer is a superior piece of filmcraft.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” This Biblical phrase that closes writer-director Evan Spiliotopoulos’s The Unholy perfectly encapsulates it. A film about how nothing is what it seems in the context of a demonic horror film rooted in Catholicism. The church, a symbol of good, is used as the backdrop, but as in other films like The Nun, what takes place among the pews is wholly evil. And in a sense, by speaking of false prophets and introducing an untrustworthy journalist character, the film speaks of the effects of “fake news” and the consequences that ensue when false narratives are intentionally planted. It’s smart in that respect, but just because a film has a James Wan story credit, or in this case, a Sam Raimi producing credit, it sadly doesn’t spell a good supernatural tale.

At only 8-years-old Soleil Moon Frye picked up millions of fans and inspired countless other kids through her titular leading role in NBC sitcom “Punky Brewster.” She was starting to grow up around cameras, and when that show came to an end three and a half years later, while she continued to act, she also picked up an audio recorder and eventually a video camera to begin documenting everything from fun with her celebrity friends at theme parks to intimate conversations and musings on life. As the reality television genre began to take root in the industry, Frye’s recordings were kept just for her, “locked away” for more than two decades. But four years ago things changed.
Around that time, Frye tells Variety, she began to question if the way she remembered certain moments and events from her life really happened the Way she remembered them. Most people in...

The day Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry Walsh’s (Julian Richings) grandson Jackson died was the day they sold their souls to the Devil—figuratively speaking, of course. It wasn’t until they joined a Satanist church run by a bunch of posers in a community center that the idea to bring him back became more than simply a fantasy. That’s where they learned about an ancient book of dark magic possessing the means to do so and how they might find it. With all questions about its legitimacy evaporated after one of its spells inexplicably helps a dead crow fly again, the time finally arrived to fulfill their intention of transferring Jackson’s soul into another woman’s (Konstantina Mantelos’ Becker) unborn baby so that he may live once more.

Many fans of the CBS reality show, Big Brother, were dying for a second All-Stars season ever since the first one aired fourteen years ago.
But when the fans finally got their wish in 2020, many were turned off by the way Big Brother Season 22 played out.
For the past few seasons, the game has been plagued by gameplay that hasn't lived up to expectations, and all the fan frustration seemed to bubble over on All-Stars 2.
If the producers want to keep their audience engaged, these are the changes Big Brother needs to make for the future.
First things first, there needs to be more diversity, period.
There should be no more seasons that have only one person from the LGBTQ+ community, one or two people of color, one person over thirty, and so on.
Plus, there's always your typical surfer dude, the nerdy superfan, and the "weird" girl.

Jonathan Majors has reportedly been cast as Kang the Conqueror and will make his debut in Ant-Man 3. Considering that Kang is a time traveler, it’s probably to let Paul Rudd know how many decades he has left until he starts showing signs of aging.
Other than the fact that Peyton Reed will return to direct, there aren’t many official Ant-Man 3 details yet (it doesn’t even have a release date at the moment), so we don’t know how major Kang’s appearance in this film will be. Is he the full-on villain of the movie? Is he a glorified cameo like Thanos in the first Guardians of the Galaxy or Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Still, a high profile announcement of an actor making waves in a hot property (Majors is currently starring in HBO’s Lovecraft Country) makes him seem more than post-credits fodder at least.

Thanks to the ever-growing popularity of RuPaul’s reality game-show, drag has become increasingly present in the public eye. Once an underground LGBT culture, drag is now in most households, in our music, and also in our cinema.

As Disney quietly disappears huge swathes of film history into its vaults, I'm going to spend 2020 celebrating Twentieth Century Fox and the Fox Film Corporation's films, what one might call their output if only someone were putting it out.And now they've quietly disappeared William Fox's name from the company: guilty by association with Rupert Murdoch, even though he never associated with him.***Two of the 1940s Raymond Chandler adaptations, Howard Hawks' The Big Sleep (1946) and Edward Dmytryk's Murder, My Sweet (1944), are rightly considered classics. Hawks identified the key challenge of the first-person detective story: find a leading man interesting enough that the audience doesn't get bored of seeing him in every scene. Hawks hired Bogart.Dmytryk was lumbered with Dick Powell, but Powell stretched himself and Dmytryk did everything to make the surroundings interesting, even nightmarish. The third movie from the third major studio is Robert Montgomery...

They both have been on the air since 2000, and while the games have evolved for both competitions, there are millions of diehard fans who are willing to defend their favorite.
Our TV Fanatics Whitney Evans and Sarah Little sat down to discuss the similarities and differences between Survivor and Big Brother and make their cases as to which reality television series is superior.
Whitney: Okay, so let's just get right into it. Why do you think Survivor is the superior reality show?
Sarah: There are a lot of things that make Survivor great. But I think one of the main reasons why it is better than Big Brother is that most, if not all, of the contestants are Survivor fans.

If ever a blog post would be diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder), this might be the one.
For the last two blog posts, I have been fighting to remind us why public exhibition of independent film is important in an increasingly online world. Heck, I’ve been saying this to whoever would listen for the last couple of years. Trying to remind us that seeing films together is how we most effectively share our stories and social messages, and experience a sense of community.
And then, poof!

Pabst’s celebrated 1927 jeopardy-soap has romance, treachery, murder, a revolutionary war and a score of terrific characters embodied by Brigitte Helm, Sig Arno, Vladimir Sokoloff and the weird Fritz Rasp. But our hearts are stolen by the wistful lady in the title role, Édith Jéhanne, whose natural performance resonates with innocence and devotion. The rambling narrative barely holds together, but this romantic winner is graced with some of the best-directed scenes from silent cinema.

Fandoms of all colours have had to come to terms with the frustration of lockdown-induced film cancellations. Bigger fish to fry in a deadly pandemic there may be, but that doesn’t make the unexpected disruption less irksome. Black Widow, Wonder Woman 1984, most likely Tenet….it’s a very long list with some very big names. But there’s a name that knew postponement long before coronavirus gripped the world.
This name’s fandom has been particularly accustomed to the interminable wait, finding themselves shrugging their shoulders at the sight of every other name getting delayed until August, November, 2023, and in some cases, indefinitely. They might even have derived some perverse pleasure from it. Oh, so you can’t see the 33rd Marvel movie till Christmas? Try 11 years – and counting.
I am, of course, talking about Avatar, and its endlessly delayed sequels. You’ll be relieved to know this article...

Willner died Monday at the age of 64, and while a cause of death has yet to be confirmed, he was reportedly suffering from symptoms consistent with the coronavirus.
In a post on Instagram, Metallica described Willner as “someone who through his unique combination of musical knowledge and warm personality, invigorated every project he touched.”
