- Natwar is just a young boy when his beloved older brother and caretaker, police officer Gridharilal (Ajit), is framed for bribery by sinister criminal mastermind Vikram (Amjad Khan). When he grows up, Natwar (Amitabh Bachchan) creates a secret identity for himself, posing as a powerful and mysterious underworld figure named Mr. Natwarlal, determined to slowly but surely exact vengeance on Vikram.
- A tough and honest police officer clashes with a crime boss who, unbeknownst to him, happens to be his parents' murderer.
- Mangal Singh (Rajesh Khanna) has been a career criminal, whose criminal career began to steal food and to keep from starving, and thence got him in deeper and deeper in the criminal world. His crimes have caught up with him and he is sentenced to be hanged. He dramatically escapes with the help of underworld don, Suraj (Pinchoo Kapoor), and is on the run from the police. He lands up in a small village in Northern India, and becomes a school-teacher with the help of local restauranteur, Bijli (Mumtaz). He takes on the identity of Ramu, a friend of Shravan, and goes to live with Shravan's parents, Lalaji (Om Prakash) and Malti (Nirupa Roy), little knowing that they are the parents of a man he killed while escaping from the police.
- Lakhan Singh gives his life of a Dacoit and lives a happy life with his wife Champa when his son Jaswant becomes three years old, Champa becomes ill with cancer and circumstances force him to be again a Dacoit.
- After losing his two younger brothers on a mountain climbing expedition, Vijay (Sunil Dutt) swears to his sorrowing mother (Achala Sachdev) that he will never undertake any expedition again. When he hears of a plane crash deep in the mountains of the Himalays, he initially refuses to even consider going there to look for the survivors, but the tears of a mother, Geeta (Nandita Thakur), whose two children were abroad that plane, moves him and his mother, and he agrees to look for the children, little knowing that others are on the way to the crash site, with different motives.
- Powerful and mighty Rustom Zabuli (Prithviraj Kapoor) of Iran while on a visit to India,rescues a horse-drawn carriage of Shehzadi Tehmina (Suraiya). Impressed by his strength, the Shehzadi offers to employ him, but Rustom refuses. The Shehzadi has his horse abducted and brought to her palace, Rustom follows. Once there, the Shehzadi confesses her love for Rustom, and Rustom too falls in love with her. They are married with great pomp. Due to war in Iran, Rustom must return to defend his king. The Shehzadi's enemies plot to overthrow her father and her, but Shehzadi manages to escape. She gives birth to a son. She must never reveal her husband's true identity to her son or else he will be killed. So Rustom's son, Sohrab (Premnath) grows up without any knowledge of his mighty and famous father. The Shehzadi's enemies now aware of Sohrab, who has acquired his father's strength and might, plot to make both father and son fight, a fight from which only one man can emerge alive and victorious.
- Bansi and Birju get married in their village. But the villager's find out that Bansi is a prostitute.
- Raj likes to gamble and place bets about virtually anything, including befriend an attractive woman, Pinky, and pretending to her brother, while carrying on his romance with his sweetheart, Sapna Singh. The second time Raj sees Pinky is in a coffin being carried to her grave, while he consoles her dad, someone shoots him dead, leaving Raj to take the blame. The third time he sees Pinky singing and dancing at a New Year's Party; the 4th time he sees her posing in a photograph with Sapna; and the 5th time he is introduced to a very much alive Pinky by Sapna, where she refuses to recognize him, and shortly thereafter she is found dead in Sapna's house; and the 6th time both Sapna and he find her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling. As this mystery deepens, the Police want to question Raj about the two deaths - while Raj himself keeps on getting deeper and deeper in a mystery that may well end up taking his very own life.
- A young lad, separated at a young age from his parents takes on the life of petty crime and ends up in jail. On his release he comes across a friend in a train, and at the friend's request sets upon to trace his two daughters; he meets them and falls in love with one of them. But the police are on his trail due to a stolen necklace belonging to none other than his birth mother.
- In his quest for a heir, Rai Bahadur has an affair with a prostitute Meher. When Meher becomes pregnant he promises to take the child and educate him. But fate has other plans, for his wife Meena also becomes pregnant at the same time, and shortly thereafter both women give birth to two boys. Meher threatens to expose him if he does not take her son, and leave Meena's son in an orphanage. However, both children end up in his palatial home. He belittles Meher's son and finally accuses him of stealing. Fed up of these accusations, Meena leaves the house with Kishore, and ironically ends up with Meher. In the meantime, Rai's son has grown up to be an arrogant, and a champion boxer. And it is in the boxing ring that both half-brothers will meet again -- for a match of their lives -- as the trophy is none other than the beautiful Mala -- who both love and hope to marry.
- A woman first insults a blind singer, then gets him cured, falls in love with him but ends up rejecting him.
- A ruthless gangster worms his way into the affections of a timber merchant. Using lies, deceit and murder he plots to usurp the place of the merchant's son, steal his inheritance and his girl.

- Thakur is a rich and wealthy man. He has two sons, the elder is Ram, who is married but frequents a prostitute Munnibai. The second son is Bharat, who is unmarried, and is good, virtuous, and devoted to his family, and expected to marry Roopa. While disciplining his elder son, Thakur has a heart-attack and passes away, leaving the administration of the estate to his younger son and daughter-in-law, the wife of Ram, Gayetri. This does not auger well with Ram and Mamaji, and they attempt to force Bharat to sign the estate over to them. When they fail, they conspire to kill him, and take over the estate from Gayetri. Bharat overhears this, and goes along with Ram's plan to kill him. He then returns as Daku Mangal Singh, his look-alike, in order to set things right. Things seem to be going well, until Bharat finds himself in a tight corner when he is accused of killing himself.
- Ajit lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his dad, Jwalaprasad, mom, and sister, Rita. While returning by train Jwalaprasad is attacked and a man named Kishan comes to his rescue. Pleased, Jwalaprasad hires him, and also proposes that he get married to Rita. Before that Ajit gets married to Radha, who also comes from a wealthy family. On the day of the marriage, both Ajit and Rita notice that Radha and Kishan appear to know each other. When questioned, both deny this, but Rita observes both of them meeting secretly, and decides to confront Kishan - not realizing that she and Ajit are virtually opening a Pandora's box that will shatter and change their lives forever.
- Rukmani gets married to Rana and faces endless abuse and beatings which do not end even when she gets pregnant. The Police arrest Rana for Robbery, try him in Court and sentence him to several years in prison, leaving Rukmani alone to give birth to a boy named Preetam, entrust him to the care of her brother, Thakur, and his wife, and passes away. The Thakurs undertake to look after Preetam as their own even after they become parents of a boy, Anil. Rana breaks out of prison and confronts Thakur, who tells him that both his wife and son are dead. When Rana demands 25000 Rupees, Mrs. Thakur summons the police, who arrive, arrest him, and take him back to complete his sentence. Years later Preetam and Anil have grown up like brothers. Preetam's marriage is being finalized with Sharan, the daughter of Rukmani and Judge B.N. Sinha, while Anil wants to get married to his sweetheart, Sarita. The engagement of the couples takes place, and shortly thereafter the Thakurs gets the news that Anil has been killed in an automobile accident. Sarita comes forward and admits that she is pregnant with Anil's child, forcing the Thakurs to compel Preetam to get married to Sarita in order to protect the family's name. What Preetam and the Thakurs do not know is that Sarita is not really pregnant, in fact, she is not who she claims to be, but is a close associate of Rana, who is now out of prison, and is hellbent to destroy the Thakur family once and for all. Watch how Sarita sets about to fulfill her agenda which is set amidst hilarious antics of Safachat and his attempts to wed Gauri.
- Sapna (Sharmila Tagore), flying back to India from the USA, is involved in an airplane engine "flameout". She loves poetry, in particular the work of a poet called Ujjwala. Unable to distinguish between the poet and the poetry, she sets out on a journey to meet the poet in a place called Phulwari. Sapna believes that Ujjwala is her dream man. Her wealthy father, worried by her distraction consults a psychiatrist who pronounces that Sapna needs treatment and must be sent to his clinic for an extended period of time. Running away from home, in a beautiful red MG TF (probably a 1954 model) she comes across Sunil (Shashi Kapoor) working on his Jeep (one of the early right-hand drive versions that Mahindras produced). A couple of accidents later they find themselves in a luxurious Mercedes Benz tour coach (possibly an O 321 H - with a rear engine) and their journey of exploration begins. Faced with obstacles, raised by greedy people who want to get the informant's reward announced by Sapna's father Randhir Singh Chauhan; and going through some comic as well as dangerous interludes the screen couple arrive at the climax on their way to Phulwari. Sunil is doing his best to escort Sapna to Phulwari. How Sapna reconciles her love for Ujjwala, who she has only met through his poetry and Sunil's unreciprocated love for her makes for an interesting denouement.
- Gopal is a gold-medalist race-car driver. One day while driving, he witnesses a girl screaming for help atop an under-construction building, he charges up the stairs, gets into a scuffle with two her two assailants, beats them up, and upon seeing that the girl has fled, he leaves. Shortly thereafter, he is arrested by the Police for killing one of the men. Gopal claims his innocence, but the Police state that they have evidence, his gold medal, which was found next to the dead body. While being transported to jail, Gopal manages to escape, and is aided by a truck driver, Ganga Singh, and his sister, Manju. Eventually both Manju and Gopal fall in love with each other while on the run from both the police and a powerful goon named Gangaram, who wants Gopal dead at any and costs. Gopal encounters an assortment of characters, and finds out he cannot really trust anyone as no one is who they claim to be.
- Widower Hridaynath lives a poor lifestyle in Belapur where he works as a Head Master. Her instills national pride amongst his students and the villagers and gets them actively involved for the general betterment of their lives, and even gets his childhood money-lender friend, Kanhaiyalal, to forgive some loans for needy villagers. He has a son, Ram, who studies medicine in Bombay. One day a villager named Dhanoo returns back from Bombay and alleges that a man resembling Ram had given him a lot of money to return home and swear never to leave Belapur but Hridaynath scoffs at this as he knows Ram cannot afford to give money away. His worst fears are realized when he finds out that Ram is actually living a double life in Bombay where he works for a smuggler, Manchanda, has abducted his employer's daughter, Sudha, as well as cash and gold from an American named Shambu Khanna, and is on his way to Belapur to malign his name and disrupt his life.
- The movie story deals with a CBI inspector who foils a diabolical plot of the uncle of a neighboring ruler from usurping the throne with the help of outside agents.
