An Alabama native she made a name for herself playing good girl roles in the 1940s. The middle of six children she was born in Birmingham, Alabama on Christmas Day 1919 to William and Gladys Early, both of whom had originally come from Montgomery. She was raised on the family chicken farm rooted in home-sprung tradition and religious faith. Her early acting endeavors usually involved her work in Christmas and Easter pageants at her local Baptist church but in the mid-1930s she found herself starring in leading roles while touring in stock companies, which found her performing in various stage productions in New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
In 1936 while starring in "Idiot's Delight" on Broadway she was spotted by a talent scout who brought her to California for an RKO screen test. She made her screen debut in Stage Door (1937) followed by turns in Jezebel (1938), Judge Hardy and Son (1939), Strike Up the Band (1940), Andy Hardy's Private Secretary (1941), and Stage Door Canteen (1943). With 13 film titles to her resume she left movies in 1946 following her appearance in Cinderella Jones (1946) and moved to Laguna Beach where she spent the remainder of her life working as a receptionist for a local doctors office and she continued to be active in the Baptist church and Republican politics. Rene Fitzgerald Garcia was Born in Havana, Cuba, a self-taught animation artist during the late '40s and the early '50s.
He managed to work himself into a position at Havana's primary TV Station (CMQ), creating Animated commercials. He strived to Develop his animation skills by doing.
In 1961 he escaped the Castro regime by taking his family on a Jamaican vacation and claiming political asylum with the help of a prominent British/Jamaican Family, The Crawfords, whose daughter, Carroll Crawford became the First Jamaican Miss World (1963).
Rene moved his Family to Miami, Fla. and continued on to Hollywood with starry eyes to complete his life's dream to work for Disney.
He was only able to find employment a Sears, where he worked retail; with his strong ambition, he advanced to a position in the Advertisement dept.
Rene's tenacity lead him in search for a spot in animation.
Successfully he gained connections and with knowledge and developed artistic capabilities found employment at Hanna-Barbara Productions as a Background artist. His past experience in Cuba, required responsibilities of the complete process of the animation. Therefore, creating backgrounds were less demanding in some areas, yet dealt with a higher quality in animation backgrounds.
In the early 60's with the successful TV Series "The Flinstones." Soon after the creation of "The Jetsons," which was a series beloved by the public, but did not make the cut in the cooperate arena.
Through the decades at Hanna-Barbara, he strived to develop his talents, which were noted by Disney's Animation Dept. He was recruited to work with the Disney's Animation Dept.
Rene Garcia's name is seen on the credits for the Animation Film "The Little Mermaid" on the animation background section.
