Following their collaboration on “I Want You Back,” Amazon Studios is re-teaming with filmmakers Jason Orley and Isaac Aptaker on a yet-to-be-titled comedy.
Orley will direct the new project from a script by Aptaker, based on a story they wrote. While plot details are being kept under wraps for the film, Amazon Studios landed the project in a preemptive deal based on the success of “I Want You Back,” from Orley, Aptaker and producer Elizabeth Berger.
Aptaker and Berger will produce the new film via their The Walk-Up Company production banner, with the company’s head of development Adam Londy executive producing alongside Orley.
“I Want You Back” launched on Prime Video in February 2022 to rave reviews, with Variety’s film critic Courtney Howard describing the romantic comedy, starring Charlie Day and Jenny Slate, as “eloquently executed.”

Ryan Murphy has another anthology after Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer.
The streamer has also ordered a second season of his drama series The Watcher.
Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.
Both Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher come from American Horror Story co-creator Murphy and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan.
Netflix didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”.
Murphy is behind an incredible number of franchises including American Horror Story, American Horror Stories, American Crime Story, American Love Story, Feud and 9-1-1.

As it’s gone on, Ryan Murphy’s Netflix deal has revealed how many topics fascinate him — and how rigidly fixed in the past are his manners of addressing them.
Has he been able to get beyond the franchises he started on FX? Consider, for instance, his recent smash “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”; the surfeit of punctuation in the title seems to suggest a sublimated desire to call it what it is, another installment of the true-life “American Crime Story” in all but name. “Halston’s” gilded retelling of recent-ish celebrity culture recalled “Feud,” with the adversaries, perhaps, being the designer and his own ego. And now, with his new series “The Watcher,” Murphy has reverse-engineered an “American Horror Story,” taking a true story and finding within or beyond its nuances some Murder House melodramatics.

Ryan Murphy has officially listed his next house — another one that comes with chilling baggage.
The American Horror Story creator, whose FX anthology was centered around a haunted home, has dropped a trailer for his next Netflix series, The Watcher, which is about a home, and a family, that is being stalked to sinister degree. The series releases Oct. 13.
The limited series, which notes that it’s based on the shocking true story of the infamous “Watcher” house in New Jersey, stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, a married couple who move their family into a new suburban home. The trailer, however, shows that everyone around them, particularly the anonymous “watcher” of their home, knows they have bought more than they bargained for.
“Do you know the history of the house? I’ve been put in charge of watching you. This message will not be the last.

Promoting a TV show when there are countless offerings out there is tough.
Netflix is taking a different approach for Ryan Murphy's limited series The Watcher, which is on track for a fall launch.
The streaming service released a clip of Jennifer Coolidge in character as realtor Karen Calhoun.

Coolidge has had some iconic roles throughout her career, and we're sure Karen will be another quote-worthy addition to her resume.

Netflix has unveiled an unconventional teaser for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming limited series The Watcher. It’s also the streamer’s first official confirmation of the series.
The White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge hosts a three-minute “open house” video as realtor Karen Calhoun.
“Hi, I’m Karen Calhoun from Darren Dunn Realty,” says Coolidge at the opening of the teaser. “This is 657 Boulevard,” she continues, “and this is my listing.”
“Are you ready?, your dream home awaits,” she adds.
The teaser could pass for a legit open house tour, except for a couple of things that are a bit telling — such as when Karen suggests you could fit an entire body in the home’s dumbwaiter, and when she fears opening the bedroom curtains because of “weird neighbors” who might be peering in.
Co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, the series, starring Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale,...

Jennifer Coolidge is a woman of many talents, including, apparently, selling homes. Netflix introduced us to her latest character, real estate agent Karen Calhoun, in a clip Friday promoting Ryan Murphy’s new series, “The Watcher.”
In the video, Coolidge shows off 657 Boulevard, the infamous New York house from the new limited series. “The Watcher” is based on a story written for New York Magazine and follows a family who were ultimately threatened to leave their newly bought mansion after a mysterious stalker began sending them letters in the mail.
Coolidge gives a tour of the property in painstaking detail, as any luxury real estate agent would, highlighting the best features in the house — including the fifth bathroom, which was thrown in “just for fun.”
“There is nothing like this in the world,” she says as she twirls through one of the rooms. And of course, she had to show off the fully intact dumbwaiter,...

With the help of Reese Witherspoon and her book club, Delia Owens’ novel “Where the Crawdads Sing” has been adapted into a film. Reese’s Book Club designated the novel as a selection back when it was first published in 2018, rocketing it up the NY Times Bestseller list.
The movie will bring to life the story of a young girl, abandoned by her family, who learns to live on her own in her family’s old shack in the marsh in 1960s North Carolina. The girl grows into a clever young woman who knows how to fend for herself and love off the land. Her life becomes a bit more complicated when romance enters the picture, and the story takes a sharp turn.
Here’s everything we know about the “Where the Crawdads Sing” movie so far:

As you dash about making restaurant reservations and scheduling floral deliveries for the big holiday this weekend, do you ever think about those “non-participators”? I’m guessing that you may not during the whirlwind of “preps”. Sure. most of the “romantically challenged” hadn’t counted on joining in this Monday, but what about those who really thought they’d be toasting their “special someone”? As sort of “counter-programing” two of these “unfortunates” are the focus of a very twisted “rom-com”. This duo is completely “blindsided” by their respective “bust-ups”. So do they break out the ice cream as they plant themselves on the couch for a marathon streaming TV binge? Oh no, they hatch a scheme that loudly declares (though not out loud to the “targets”), I Want You Back.
The “shenanigans” start during a really awful weekend for our two main subjects. Funny, funky Emma (Jenny Slate) is finishing...

Many mainstream romantic comedies are so predictable a robot could write them. Some unlucky-in-love woman cannot find a husband (despite looking like a supermodel and having a glamorous job), so a condescending guy helps her become more appealing in order to attract Mr. Right. Eventually, it turns out the condescending guy was Mr. Right all along, and the woman is blessedly saved from the ninth circle of Female Hell: spinsterhood. Katy Perry plays over the credits.
For an antidote to this formula, look no further than “I Want You Back,” where the characters and the world they inhabit are both refreshingly mundane, and the film is all the funnier for it.
“I Want You Back” sports a cast and crew destined for comedic success: Screenwriters Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are no strangers to the subversive rom-com, and capable directing and editing by Jason Orley (“Big Time Adolescence”) and Jonathan Schwartz (“Stuber”), respectively,...

When in a romantic relationship, it’s never a good time to break up, nor to be the one getting dumped. The hilarious cold open of director Jason Orley’s rom-com “I Want You Back” begins with much promise, highlighting the indignities of the separate but equally humiliating fracturing of our two protagonists’ long-term loves. And while the premise of these two broken-hearted strangers finding each other and hatching a foolhardy scheme to win back their exes is quick to ramp up, the midsection plateaus when it should percolate with the pair’s plan taking form, or rather not quite manifesting correctly. Still, despite some pacing issues and predictable plotlines, the film keeps us wholeheartedly engaged with well-drawn, well-performed characters, grounded shenanigans and sweet, sentimental commentary on heartache.

Jenny Slate and Charlie Day are a couple of scheming exes invading Valentine’s Day 2022.
Amazon Studios has set a global digital release for “I Want You Back,” the new romantic comedy starring Slate and Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). It hits Prime Video this Feb. 11, just in time for cupid.
The stars play Emma and Peter in the new film, two souls who thought they were on the precipice of life’s biggest moments – marriage, kids, and houses in the suburbs — until their respective partners dumped them. In their thirties and terrified that they have missed their shot at happily ever after, Emma and Peter are further horrified to learn that their partners have already moved on.

A hellfire and damnation preacher’s sermon blares from the car radio as Laura and her infant son David (Luke David Blumm; The Sinner) escape from the cult she was raised in. She’ll run as far and as fast as she can and build a new life and identity for them. But now, eight years later the past has caught up to her. It seems she can run, but there are some things neither she nor David can hide from.
First, she sees strange people surrounding his bed. People who are, of course, gone when help arrives. The police think she was sleepwalking. She knows better, she’s too busy having nightmares to go for a walk. Then David falls mysteriously ill, having seizures and vomiting blood. But whatever it is,...

Occult-tinged mother-son yarn covers the same ground as the likes of The Omen and Hereditary, but struggles to sustain momentum
This moody horror begins at a frenzied pitch: a panicked drive down a foggy highway at night, a pregnant woman about to give birth at the wheel. Like her, the story is looking for a new place to go; but it never really finds one. On its own terms, it’s a serviceably creepy slice of occult-tinged mother-son horror, but the story is constantly bumping into predecessors that have already covered this territory, including The Omen, Hereditary, The Babadook and True Detective.
The woman is Laura, played by Andi Matichak, star of David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween. After the prologue, we catch up with her eight years later, a stable single mother to an angelic son David (Luke David Blumm), happily living her small-town life. Until one night she walks...

"They awakened something in him." Shudder has released an official trailer for a mysterious indie horror thriller titled Son, written & directed by Irish filmmaker Ivan Kavanagh. This just premiered at the Dublin Film Festival a few months ago. In Son, after a mysterious group breaks into Laura's home and attempts to abduct her young son, the two flee town in search of safety. But soon after, David becomes extremely ill, suffering from strange psychosis & convulsions. Following her maternal instincts, she commits unspeakable acts to keep him alive, but soon she must decide how far she is willing to go to protect him from terrifying forces in her past. The film stars Andi Matichak, Emile Hirsch, Cranston Johnson, and Luke David Blumm as David. This looks incredibly creepy. The cult seems super demented and I don't like them. At all. Even though it’s moving at a slower pace than many would like, the vaccine rollout is starting to gain some traction and in turn, moviegoers are going to start setting foot in theaters — safely of course. That said, the specialty box office space might be hearing some more coin drop into its piggy bank in the forthcoming months. It’s been quite a journey, but we’ll get there slowly yet surely.

Most parents have the odd stressful moment when they jokingly wonder if they’re raising a devil’s spawn. Unfortunately for Andi Matichak, that notion seems neither humorous nor hyperbolic in “Son,” wherein the star of David Gordon Green’s “Halloween” reboot has a more “Rosemary’s Baby”-ish problem on her hands.
This latest, Heartland-set feature from Irish writer-director Ivan Kavanagh (“Never Grow Old”) echoes his prior horror exercise, 2014’s “The Canal,” in that it similarly means to keep us uncertain whether our protagonist is bedeviled by supernatural peril or delusional psychosis. But that line isn’t trod quite so nimbly this time, and the film suffers somewhat from striking an oddly earnest tone (despite some gory bits) without necessarily being very convincing, when it might better have gone for straight nerve-jangling suspense. It’s an intriguing, watchable but mixed bag that Rlje Films is releasing March 5 to available theaters,...

The Vigil: "Steeped in ancient Jewish lore and demonology, The Vigil is supernatural horror film set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn's Hasidic Borough Park neighborhood. Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov (Dave Davis) reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante (Menashe Lustig) to take on the responsibility of an overnight "shomer," fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member. Shortly after arriving at the recently departed's dilapidated house to sit the vigil, Yakov begins to realize that something is very, very wrong."
Written and Directed by Keith Thomas, Starring Dave Davis, Menashe Lustig and Lynn Cohen

The main cast features Andi Matichak, Emile Hirsch, and Luke David Blumm as the boy; along with Erin Bradley Dangar and Cranston Johnson. The shots of...
