June 4, 2024 – Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley, beloved James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and Star Wars universe luminary Mark Hamill form the ultimate vocal rogues’ gallery in Mofac Animation’s upcoming The King of Kings, an animated family film inspired by a little-known short story by Charles Dickens depicting the life and times of Jesus Christ.
Kingsley voices High Priest Caiaphas, who presided over the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus. Hamill takes on the role of King Herod, who, according to the Gospel of Matthew, ordered the Massacre of the Innocents in an attempt to kill Jesus as an infant. And Brosnan gives animated life to Pontius Pilate, who ultimately ordered the crucifixion of Jesus. The triumvirate of villainous voices further enhances the A-list cast behind the faith-based animated film, which also includes Academy Award & Emmy Award winners Kenneth Branagh (Belfast) and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Golden Globe...

Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill and Ben Kingsley are set to bring Jesus Christ’s adversaries to life in an animated feature inspired by a posthumously published story from Charles Dickens.
The three performers will portray villains as part of the star-studded voice cast for director Seong-ho “Jay” Jang’s The King of Kings. Hailing from South Korea-based animation house Mofac Animation, the film is loosely based on The Life of Our Lord, the Dickens short story that was published decades after the author’s death and focuses on the life and times of Christ.
Brosnan voices Pontius Pilate, the biblical figure who ordered Jesus’ crucifixion. Hamill will tackle the role of King Herod, who is described in the Bible as ordering the Massacre of the Innocents shortly after Jesus’ birth. Kingsley is taking on the part of High Priest Caiaphas, who presided over the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus.

Battered by disappointing markets at Toronto and AFM, both of which were held under the shadow of the actors strike, buyers and sellers are looking to Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM), which runs Feb. 15-21, to re-energize the indie business. The outlook, coming out of Sundance, is good.
“The difference in Sundance from last year to this was extreme, there were a lot more deals being down, both by distributors and streamers,” says Janina Vislmaier, head of sales at Protagonist Pictures, which screened The Outrun with Saoirse Ronan and Sasquatch Sunset with Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg in Park City, both of which will screen at the EFM. “Everyone is really excited ahead of Berlin, especially because all the buyers are back, including from Asia, which is a really good sign.”

5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)
When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

Written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig (“The Edge of Seventeen”) and featuring such A-listers as Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates, the faithful film adaptation boasts an awe-inspiring Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 99% and was even described by its source’s author in a “Today” interview as “better than the book.” As the 2024 movie awards season begins, its best shot at a Golden Globe nomination lies with its 15-year-old star, Abby Ryder Fortson, who would be the fifth youngest contender in the history of her category.
At this point, Fortson is hovering directly outside of Gold Derby’s predicted six-person Best Comedy/Musical Actress lineup with the support of just over a quarter of our oddsmakers.

Atonement and Pirates of the Caribbean franchise star Keira Knightley is gearing up to star in a dystopian science-fiction thriller, Conception, about the British government assuming control over parenting. Directed and written by Camille Griffin, Conception preys on the fears of parents worldwide, who, at some point or another, have experienced nightmares about undesirable parties overseeing their child’s development, wants, and needs. Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler produce through Maven Screen Media, with Fortitude taking the lead on international sales at the upcoming American Film Market event.
“Conception is a sci-fi thriller set in the not-too-distant future of Britain, where the government has taken authoritarian rule over parenting,” the official synopsis reads. “The film follows Rita (Knightley), a loyal civil servant and believer in the unforgiving system she upholds, until unexpected events endanger her own parental status, rendering her victim to the same laws she so readily inflicted on others.

Following in the footsteps of its Nordic neighbors, Finland is fast becoming a destination of choice for foreign co-productions, not least thanks to its up-front cash-back tax incentive introduced in 2017.
Despite a slight drop in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic, figures show a 40-plus growth of the audiovisual industry in the past five years, distributed evenly between co-production and service production.
In addition to the national rebate of 25, productions can get up to 40 incentive money thanks to top-ups from regional film commissions.
Other support mechanisms include public broadcaster Yle and the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture (Avek), as well as a growing number of private investors such as VOD platform Elisa Viihde and Aurora Studios, which are working actively on getting Finnish content out to the world.

Directing a film is a hard job to begin with, and adding in playing a role while directing makes it that much more difficult. Layer in acting in a scene with a child, and asking him to switch back and forth between taking direction and acting with you, and it's a Herculean task. What if, on top of all that, you're playing the role of Hitler?
Taika Waititi took all this on while acting in, and directing, from a script he adapted, the 2019 film "Jojo Rabbit," the story of Johannes "Jojo" Betzler (Roman Griffin Davis), a young German boy who is a member of the Deutsches Jungvolk,...

After the massive success that was "Thor: Ragnarok," it may have been surprising to some when director Taika Waititi decided to work on a smaller-scale dark comedy about a wannabe Nazi kid in World War II era Germany. "Jojo Rabbit" follows a young boy named Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) who idolizes Hitler and fully buys in to the anti-semitic tropes they're teaching him at his Hitler Youth camp.
While the intention of "Jojo Rabbit" was to portray how radicalization can warp a person's mind and allow them to see a fascist, hateful society as normal and even admirable, the movie's satirical depiction...

Rlje Films last night acquired U.S. rights to Riley Stearns’ thriller Dual in a competitive bidding situation, striking a low-mid seven figure deal for the film, which recently premiered in U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival.
XYZ Films, CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group closed the deal with Rlje Films, with the former company also handling world rights outside of the U.S. The film is slated for release in theaters this year.
Dual centers on Sarah (Karen Gillan), a woman who, upon receiving a terminal diagnosis, opts for a cloning procedure to ease her loss on her friends and family. When she makes a sudden and miraculous recovery, her attempts to have her clone decommissioned fail and lead to a court-mandated duel to the death.
Aaron Paul and Beulah Koale also star in the film produced by Stearns, XYZ and Resolute Films and Entertainment.

Keira Knightley was “incredibly pregnant” the first time she read writer-director Camille Griffin’s script for the comedic holiday horror-drama “Silent Night,” and recalls finding the unusual tale of a Christmas Eve gathering the night of a coming apocalypse “absolutely, hysterically funny.”
She read it again months later — sleep deprived and with her six-week-old daughter in tow — and still found it hilarious.
But by the time production started, her daughter was five months old. Suddenly, the parental strife and absurdist life-or-death decisions peppering the script took on a very different light.
“I was like, this is not funny! What the fuck was I on? This is the opposite of funny!” she squeals in bafflement.
As a new parent herself, the questions the film poses about the lengths one is willing to go to to protect one’s children took on a new, unshakeable weight.

The holiday season officially kicked off on AMC+ this past Friday with the arrival of holiday comedy/apocalyptic drama Silent Night, which is the feature film debut from U.K. writer/director Camille Griffin. The genre-bender stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Roman Griffin Davis (Camille’s son), Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Ṣọpé Dìrísù, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Lucy Punch, Rufus Jones and Trudie Styler and is centered around an idyllic Christmas Eve gathering in the English countryside where a group of friends and family come together to celebrate the holiday as well as their own impending annihilation via a cataclysmic weather event which is only hours away from killing them all. After a busy Thanksgiving weekend which saw a solid-for-2021 $142 million five-day gross, things are taking a bit of a breather this weekend. The only new wide release is Focus’ specialty film Wolf, which is unlikely to displace any of last week’s box office winners. Expect a repeat of last weekend with Encanto, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and House of Gucci remaining in the top three, and we’ll see how well they hold as we await some of the year’s most anticipated films in the coming weeks. West Side Story, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Nightmare Alley, The Matrix Resurrections, and other big ticket holiday and award season films are just around the corner and will hopefully bring the pandemic-era box office to new heights.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Encanto will duke it out for the top spot this weekend. Encanto was in the lead last weekend, with $40.5 million compared to Ghostbusters’ $35 million for the five-day,...

Not all is as it seems when families and old friends meet up in the picturesque English countryside to enjoy what will turn out to be a revelatory last Christmas supper together, but there's something they know that we don't about tomorrow, namely, that they don't expect it to come. This happy holiday gathering of friends hides an impending and inevitable calamity in Camille Griffin's blackest of comedies, Silent Night. With an impressive cast led by Kiera Knightley, Matthew Goode, and Jojo Rabbit breakout star, Roman Griffin Davis, this ensemble piece balances wildly disparate tones with admirable grace, delivering an occasionally dour, but never dull exploration of interpersonal relationships and the consequences of choices we make for ourselves and others. The movie opens with Nell...

The latest entry into the beloved “Home Alone” franchise hails from a stacked roster of comedy veterans.
“Borat” and “Bridget Jones’ Baby” co-writer Dan Mazer directs the film from a screenplay by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell of “Saturday Night Live” (and of Variety’s list of 10 Screenwriters to Watch in 2021). AMC+ and Rlje Films have debuted a new trailer for the darkly comedic drama ‘Silent Night’ featuring Matthew Goode and Keira Knightley.
The film follows parents Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) who have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside. As the group comes together, it feels like old times – but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right. The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind’s imminent destruction go away. Surviving the holidays just got a lot more complicated.
From producers Matthew Vaughn, Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray and directed by Camille Griffin – who makes her directorial debut – the film stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Roman Griffin Davis, Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Ṣọpé Dìrísù, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Lucy Punch, Rufus Jones and Trudie Styler.
