Jake Bloom, the larger-than-life Hollywood attorney who negotiated rich deals for clients including Nicolas Cage, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Depp, died Thursday in Sun Valley, Idaho, his wife Ruth confirmed. He was 81.
In 2019, Bloom retired along with his partner Alan Hergott while the firm was still in the midst of litigation with former client Depp.
Bloom Hergott was founded in 1970, with a stable of high-profile clients that also included directors Brad Bird, Martin Scorsese and Rob Cohen, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and actor Jason Statham.
Over the years, he worked with Hollywood’s top names thanks to close relationships with CAA and ICM. Bloom famously negotiated Depp’s first deal to star in Disney’s live-action “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, which held back merchandising and theme park rights, resulting in a big payoff for Depp and Bruckheimer.
In 2001, Bloom secured a massive $29.25 million contract for Schwarzenegger to star in “Terminator 3.

After years of silence, Sylvester Stallone has recently voiced his discontent regarding his lack of ownership in the “Rocky” franchise by throwing punches at producer Irwin Winkler, but why doesn’t the star have any ownership of the series he created?
After revealing his frustration regarding his lack of stake in the franchise to Variety in 2019, in which he said he has “zero ownership of ‘Rocky,'” Stallone expressed his anger toward Winkler through several Instagram posts that condemn him as “remarkably untalented and parasitical.”
In July, Stallone blamed Winkler for withholding ownership of the franchise and called for a “fair gesture” from the “Rocky” producer, saying, “I really would like to have at least a little [of] What’S Left of my rights back, before passing it on to Only Your Children.”

Amber Heard’s lawyers depicted actor Johnny Depp on Thursday as a fallen idol undone by his substance abuse, profligate spending, and unchecked anger — and not by the 2018 op-ed his ex-wife wrote about being a victim of domestic violence.
Witnesses called by Heard, the defendant in Depp’s 50 million defamation case, said the Pirates of the Caribbean star went from the top of Hollywood’s A-list to someone struggling to find work and pay his bills despite having earned more than 600 million. “He was the biggest star in the world,...

Just in time for the holidays, Johnny Depp today continued his ongoing quest to wrap up many of the legal troubles that have dogged him in recent years. Deadline confirms that the actor has reached a deal with the attorneys he’d hired for a $50 million malpractice suit that the Pirates of the Caribbean star launched in 2017. They said he owed them nearly $350,000 in unpaid legal fees.
As Depp’s $50 million defamation showdown with Amber Heard looms, the actor has ended litigation with the Buckley Llp lawyers he’d retained in his malpractice court fight with Jake Bloom, the Bloom Hergott partner who had been Depp’s attorney for nearly two decades. Although details of that late-October settlement were not disclosed, Deadline hears that Depp’s payout was around $10 million in the end.

Johnny Depp has resolved a lawsuit challenging the some $30 million he paid Bloom Hergott for representing him in transactional matters. A settlement announced by the parties avoids the need for a trial that was scheduled to take place in December.
The actor, who according to court documents across several cases has been beset by financial problems, claimed in his suit that his oral contract with talent lawyer Jake Bloom was void thanks to a California statute that requires contingency fee agreements be in writing.
Bloom argued that Hollywood's percentage fee deals aren't contingency fee arrangements, but a ...

I know this seems like kind of like an “Oh poor me!” story, and it is. However, it is also a cover your butt kind of story. Sylvester Stallone is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood today. Unfortunately, there was a time that all of his success had fallen by the wayside and his agency dropped him. That has to be a low point for any actor/writer/director and he also had to fade into obscurity knowing that he had absolutely no ownership in his one major, academy award winning success Rocky.
In an interview with Variety, Sly talks about his journey from success to stagnation to coming back to the top and the future. I have chosen a couple of segments from the interview, click on the link above if you are interested in the whole thing.

Exclusive: As lawyers for Johnny Depp and his former law firm spar over a new trial date for the now $50 million malpractice lawsuit the Pirates of the Caribbean star brought against Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal Laviolette Feldman Schenkman & Goodman Llp in 2017, there looks to be at least two fewer Hollywood heavyweights in the ring as of today.

What the hell happened to Johnny Depp? Once the coolest man in Hollywood, he’s now a walking caricature. Where his performances were once layered and sensitive, he’s now little more than a collection of weird tics, odd costumes and bad makeup. And then there’s his Chernobyl of a personal life…
I don’t need to rehash the allegations made against him by his former wife Amber Heard (and the counter-allegations made by Depp), as they’re currently going through the courts and you can read about them in any trashy tabloid. But, in a seriously depressing twist, we’re about to learn whether Depp tried to get Heard blacklisted from Warner Bros. and kicked off Aquaman.
These allegations stem from a lawsuit Depp filed against his former representative Jake Bloom. One of the witnesses potentially due to be deposed is disgraced Warner Bros. chairman Kevin Tsujihara and...
