The Big Door Prize season 2, episode 8, doesn’t necessarily focus on any one character in the show. I suppose that’s what makes the title so accurate. “Our Town,” as it’s named after the play by the American playwright Thornton Wilder, focuses on a lot of members of the Deerfield population, just as the play does. Also, the kids finally get to put on their play for the whole town. The episode is wholesome as always, and we get to see a lot of characters embrace change while others struggle to understand what they’re really looking for. The episode does also focus on Father Reuben, though not in the obvious ways we saw some other characters in other episodes. We finally get to learn about his vision and how he might find his footing as a changed human.

Who is the greatest anime director of all time? One name that cinephiles won't let be forgotten (nor should they) is Satoshi Kon. A surrealist who always tied his imagination to a strong character or theme, only Kon could make the movies he chose to in the way he made them.
His "hyper-real" style of animation is the core of his filmmaking philosophy; animation can tell the same stories that live-action movies can, but shouldn't try to emulate how those movies tell them. He also understood how the greatest advantage animation has is editing; since the images are drawn, not blocked and framed, it's all the easier for scene after expressive scene to flow into one another.
Kon's influence on international filmmakers (particularly "Perfect Blue" obsessive Darren Aronofsky) is undeniable. Tragically, Kon died in 2010 at the age of 46, cutting that influence (and his in-development projects like "The Dream Machine") short.

Anime is bigger than ever. With dedicated streaming services such as Crunchyroll enjoying a meteoric rise, rivals Netflix and Prime Video getting in on the action with their own dedicated selection, and even Disney – the arbiter of western animation – now boasting a growing number of exclusive anime series on Disney+, the availability and popularity of Japanese animation has never been greater.
Yet it's in film where anime has enjoyed the biggest boom, with the likes of Your Name and Miss Hokusai heralding a new era of excellence in animation, adding to a canon of definitive works such as Akira and My Neighbour Totoro. Shoots, da kine “Rescue Hi-Surf” is one lucky TV show, brah. Fox just gave it the cherry timeslot after Super Bowl Lix on Feb. 9, 2025. That’s a big vote of confidence for the freshman drama, which is set to premiere this fall on Monday nights at 9 p.m. Et, after “9-1-1: Lone Star.”
Although the impact of the Super Bowl lead-out has varied over the years, it proved to be a huge boon this year to CBS, which launched “Tracker” after Super Bowl Lviii on Feb. 11 and watched that drama turn into a big hit. The term “coming of age” is misleading, implying “age” is some far-off looming entity that you can see approaching and prepare for accordingly. Really, growing up is experienced in milestones you seldom even notice until they’re long in the rearview and you’re busy being disappointed by how un-green the grass of adulthood really is. Bosnian writer-director Una Gunjak’s debut feature, “Excursion” which debuted in Locarno before playing in competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival, innately understands this hard truth and delivers a solemn, sensitive teen angst drama that is careful – perhaps too careful – to avoid big flourishes in favor of small gestures: a sharp glance, a loaded silence, a secret smile.
One such strange little smile plays across the lips of Iman (an excellent Asja Zara Lagumdzija), a straight-a 15-year-old in her last year of middle school as she’s driven home along with her best friend...

As has been revealed, the prosecutor on the case withheld a witness statement about that night, from someone who saw Mikey arguing with a white man, meaning that the supposed killer can’t be guilty. Remy, as a result, has started digging. The penultimate episode of the season saw him enlist Hana (Keisha Castle-Hughes) to find that witness, only known as Mama Cass. She was homeless and possibly a drug user. Hana did identify her: Cassie Fortner, sober now and running a Christian rehab clinic. Although Netflix is still working its way around the Asian movies in its catalog, in terms of series the quality is quite high, with a quality in terms of production values of many of them being comparable, if not better with feature films. “Sanctuary”, which takes a look at the world of sumo, is definitely one of those films.

Apple TV+”s The Big Door Prize comes armed with a deceptively simple elevator pitch. Based on a book of the same name by M.O. Walsh, this 10 episode series ponders “if a nondescript machine in a corner store promised to tell you your ultimate destiny, would you want to know it?”
At first, you might be thinking “sure, why not?” That concept is not markedly different from what a psychic or boardwalk fortune teller might guarantee. And in the case of the butterfly-branded “Morpho machine,” receiving your reading would actually be far cheaper at only $2. It’s all just fun and games, now who has four quarters?
But what if seemingly everyone in your small American town who utilized the Morpho machine appeared to be fundamentally changed by the experience? What if dozens of your peers completely rearranged the details of their lives to better fit its ultimate vision for them?...

There’s an interpretation of the beloved comedy Schitt’s Creek wherein the town of Schitt’s Creek is actually Purgatory — a metaphysical proving ground in which the Rose family faces a series of banal and repetitive tasks meant to test their respective souls and determine whether or not they’re worthy of salvation.
It’s not a perfect interpretation: There’s maybe a little more coming and going from Schitt’s Creek than behooves the theory; plus when you open a theological door to ponder whether, in this scenario, Chris Elliott’s Roland is God or something, nobody is likely to be satisfied. But for approximately 90 percent of the show, you can absolutely accept Schitt’s Creek as limbo. If you choose to.
The truth, though, is that some shows are designed to be treated as allegory and other shows are designed to resist allegorical readings — to be ongoing, slice-of-life shows, treated literally if not seriously.

The Fugitive Task Force’s newest member, Special Agent Ray Cannon (Edwin Hodge), is looking to protect on and off the job in the FBI: Most Wanted fall finale on December 13. In the episode “Appeal,” he feels compelled to help a woman (Caroline Harris’s Cora) and her young son combat an injustice. “Ray sees Cora arguing with her landlord while walking to work with Hana [Keisha Castle-Hughes] and heads over to calm the situation down,” Hodge tells TV Insider. “It’s revealed she’s being evicted and immediately Ray sympathizes with her because he also experienced gentrification after Hurricane Katrina hit,” he explains. Fortunately for Cora, the right person sees that disagreement on the street, because if there’s anyone you want to help out, it’s an FBI agent, especially one who has a certain skilled computer expert as not only a teammate but roommate as well. “With a little help from Hana,...
