The first season of HBO’s House of the Dragon brought a unique take to the screen by covering two decades in just ten episodes, complete with significant time jumps that saw characters age, marry, and die. By contrast, season 2 aims for continuity and deeper character exploration. What to Expect from Season 2 According to showrunner Ryan Condal, the new season will begin just days after the season 1 finale where Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) tragically kills his nephew Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault). This act cements the conflict between Aemond’s brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and his half-sister Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy)...

Matt Smith may play a fan-favorite Targaryen right now, but there was another Targaryen descendant who has always had fan support for being the best Game of Thrones character. Fans may get riled up for that exact reason at Smith’s recent comments on who would win a battle between Daemon Targaryen and Jon Snow. Smith shared that Daemon would emerge victorious over Kit Harington’s Jon Snow in such a scenario.

Such a fight would never take place in the Game of Thrones universe because of the 200-year gap between the storylines. However, Smith shared that his character’s ownership of the large red dragon Caraxes would make him a clear winner over Jon Snow.

The first season of House of the Dragon did an outstanding job of rounding up everything we’ve grown to appreciate about the Game of Thrones franchise. Dragons, without a doubt, shined brightly, but the show’s most significant components were emotions such as love, passion, desire, sadness, and dread, as well as violence and betrayal. And there will be loads of everything we’ve mentioned so far in Season 2.
Emma D’Arcy teases turmoil in Daemon-Rhaenyra’s relationship
As Westeros gets embroiled under the shadows of war, Daemon and Rhaenyra’s relationship takes a hit. D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra is grieving after the death of her father and son. In a recent interview with Av Club, D’Arcy explained, “I don’t know if they can find solace in each other in the losses. I don’t feel like Daemon can share his experience of losing his brother, so there is a dislocation taking place.

By the end of House Of The Dragon’s first season, the Game Of Thrones prequel series exploring the Targaryen civil war had set up an almighty clash of queens. Emma D’Arcy’s rightful ruler Rhaenyra had been denied the throne by childhood-friend-turned-mother-in-law (it’s complicated) Alicent Hightower; in a colossal misunderstanding, Alicent has come to believe it was King Viserys’ final wish for Alicent’s line to take the throne, rather than the daughter he long championed for the job. Throw in that one of Rhaenyra’s kids has been chomped by a hungry dragon – at the hand of one of Alicent’s sprogs, no less – and the stage is set for all-out war.
Heading into Season 2, neither Alicent nor Rhaenyra is ready to back down. “Alicent’s at the height of her power,” Cooke teases of the upcoming episodes. “She’s dealing with the task she thinks Viserys gave her,...

House of the Dragon’s season 2 is just several days away from finally being dropped on Max, and fans are counting days until they finally see whether they were right in their predictions or not.
The show’s approaching installment is set to arrive with a full-scale war between House of Targaryen’s divided family members, and, judging by all the promo that has been released ahead of the new season’s drop, now there’s no place for mercy at all.
However, things may still turn in a very unexpected direction in the second season as fans keep speculating about seeing the show’s lead in a very specific filming location, and so far it doesn’t really make sense.

House of the Dragon is returning for Season 2 and the cast is teasing what viewers can expect when the show returns to HBO on June 16.
Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Matt Smith talked to Deadline and teased what is ahead for the fantasy drama, with Smith revealing that the show will be more like its older sibling.
For Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent Hightower, returning for the second season of the George R.R. Martin-created series was like a homecoming.
“We know the characters inside out, and we’re sort of going back home, in a way,” Cooke told us. “We’re not afraid of the text or afraid of the big sets that are sort of home away from home.”
Cooke teases that in Season 2, Queen Alicent Hightower leaves the castle with the actor saying, “That was huge for me. I went to Spain. I went to Wales and I went to Surrey.

After building its characters’ relationships in season one, season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon will see its leads flung across Westeros — much to the disappointment of its close-knit cast.
The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel will continue to chronicle the House Targaryen civil war, as Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces face off against Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and her children for claim of the Iron Throne. But that means the stars were often off shooting their own individual storylines this year, rather than group scenes together.
At the show’s New York premiere on Monday, D’Arcy admitted filming without Smith and Cooke was “kind of lonely” but noted, “There’s so many beautiful actors on the show, it’s an ever-mutating thing. Certainly, I think it’ll make the active viewership kind of more exciting because there are so...

It’s almost “House of the Dragon” season again, which means it’s time for HBO to put everything it has into showing off the megahit series.
The Season 2 world premiere at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom was attended by cast and crew, celebrities, press — and, as Casey Bloys noted in his opening remarks before a screening of Episode 1, members of the executive board of Warner Bros. Discovery, including C.E.O. David Zaslav.
“I’m guessing that they’ve had a couple conversations saying, ‘Where’s all that HBO money go?'” Bloys said. “And my hope is that you see it on screen tonight. After the Game of Thrones Season 8 debacle, fans had given up all hope from the franchise. George R. R. Martin’s creation, often considered one of the best works in fantasy, lost fans very quickly. But out came House of the Dragon to the rescue, and proved that his works can stand even the toughest of times.

Though Game of Thrones was criticized for going off the rails, way more than Martin would have liked, the prequel show House of the Dragon has taken its own liberties as well. But so far, these have worked in favor of the showrunners, as the response has been largely positive.
One of the changes made to the Targaryen conflict was the initial contender against Viserys at the beginning of the saga. Though Rhaenys is presented as a prime candidate, Martin’s Fire & Blood chose someone else.

House of the Dragon co-creator Ryan Condal had Matt Smith’s face in mind when he wrote the role of Daemon Targaryen in the series. Soon, he met with Smith to discuss the role along with co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik in 2020. Smith agreed to the role but he had his concerns about the series. Matt Smith is one of the most prominent actors on the cast of House Of The Dragon, a Game of Thrones spinoff set in the Seven Kingdoms. He is known to series lovers as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who and as Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown. Smith initially had some doubts about playing Daemon Targaryen in the spinoff series as it came soon after the finale season of Game of Thrones.

Smith was concerned that audiences were already familiar with the story of House of the Dragon. He came to understand that the spinoff series was independent of its predecessor and told things on a bigger scale. On “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s fantasy epic that takes place two centuries before “Game of Thrones,” Matt Smith plays Daemon, a warrior prince who exists among fire-breathing reptiles and palace intrigue. But if his character were ever to leap deeper into the supernatural, Smith has some ideas about where he could go. “I think Daemon would make a really good vampire,” he says. “I can imagine him wandering the earth alone for all eternity.”
He certainly has the coloring: Pallid and platinum-blonde, Daemon looks as if he could have arrived in the forbidding and dark world of Westeros all the way from Transylvania. But he might be too hotblooded to play the vampire. And “House of the Dragon” — a prequel to the Emmy-gobbling, earth-shattering hit “Game of Thrones,” set during the reign of the incestuous Targaryen dynasty — is unlikely to pivot into creature horror.

One of the trickiest aspects of HBO’s House of the Dragon was the way viewers spent roughly half of the drama’s first season with “younger” versions of our two heroines — Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower — before a time jump brought longer-term stars Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke to the screen.
That put a lot of pressure on Milly Alcock and Emily Carey to anchor those initial episodes, which they did extremely well. Alcock had the greater visibility, quickly becoming a red carpet favorite and setting herself up for the opportunity to play Supergirl. Carey’s first major House of the Dragon follow-up, Netflix’s adaptation of Holly Smale’s coming-of-age Geek Girl series, isn’t as high profile as joining DC’s House of Zor-El, but it’s a solid showcase for its 21-year-old star.

We are just a few weeks away from the first episode of House of the Dragon Season 2. The period fantasy drama is a prequel to Game of Thrones (2011-2019). The HBO series was created by George Rr Martin and Ryan Condal and is based on Martin’s Fire and Blood book. The story takes place 200 years before the events of GoT.
House of The Dragon stars Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Tom Glynn-Carny, Ewan Mitchell, and others. The first season received a tremendous reaction and ended on a high note as we saw the bloodshed and wars. The season 2 trailers have hinted that things will only get uglier for the show’s characters. With the dragons having so much power this time, it is definitely going to be a fiery season!

Before House of the Dragon season 2 began filming, showrunner Ryan Condal assembled the actors of the Game of Thrones prequel to view a simple slideshow. The subject of this presentation? Dragons, naturally. The dragon riders needed to get acquainted with their bonded beasts, as they’ll never actually meet them in the scaly flesh.
“These poor actors climb up on a saddle but they never interact with the creature they’re supposed to have this close bond with,” Condal says. “If you believe Westerosi historical propaganda, Aegon [II] and Sunfyre famously had the closest bond between dragon and human in history. It’s important for Tom Glynn-Carney as an actor to know what Sunfyre looks like.”

If Game of Thrones was gory, s*xually explicit, and filled with n*dity and booze then wait for the House of the Dragon Season 2, as Olivia Cooke said, it has crossed the line of its sequel show. House of the Dragon Season 2 has been one of the highly anticipated television shows after the success of season 1, which gave chills to the bones to the devout fans of the saga.

As seen in House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower have been best friends since they were very young. They shared everything with each other and became close confidants. However, things changed when Alicent married Rhaenyra’s father and King Viserys. This changed the dynamic between the two young girls and soon, a rift formed between them.
The ultimate point of contention came when the matter of ascending the Iron Throne was discussed. Alicent wanted her kids to continue their father’s legacy. Whereas Rhaenyra wanted her birthright since she was the first heir in line. Nobody knew how this battle for power and the Iron Throne will eventually turn into a Civil War that will forever be remembered in Targaryen history.

House of the Dragon Producers Reveal Plans for Season 3 - Main Image
The first season of House of the Dragon was released to great success. Thus, it’s a no-brainer that it was renewed for another season, though with a reduced episode count. Now, the show's producers share their plans for House of the Dragon Season 3 in case HBO renews the show.
Compared to the 10-episode first season, House of the Dragon Season 2 will only have eight episodes.
Of course, many expected it to be as long as the first one, but the producers revealed they had no control over the reduced episode count.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series’ executive producer, Sara Hess, claimed this move wasn’t a creative call. Though she couldn’t say anything about it, she stressed it “wasn’t really our choice.”
But despite this change, plans for the hit HBO series are already sealed.

When HBO’s House of the Dragon premiered, one of the most controversial casting decisions was the choice of Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen. Alongside fans of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, even critics were skeptical that the Doctor Who star could bring the necessary depth and complexity to the role of the rogue prince.

If everything wasn’t of the greatest caliber, a show like Game of Thrones would not have reached such heights. The two areas where the play truly excelled were the costume and wig designs. Hence, its prequel House of the Dragon including some of the best TV costumes and wigs ever produced shouldn’t come as a surprise. And Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, absolutely loves them.
