Exclusive: Patriots, the hot new play by The Crown’s Peter Morgan, has recouped during its 12-week run in London’s West End, making a move to Broadway more than likely.
The play’s success is a remarkable achievement. Transferring the drama from the Almeida Theatre in Islington to the Noel Coward Theatre was a risky proposition to start with and it was always a gamble.
All those involved were nervous, including Morgan, I understand.
The production team wondered whether audiences would be drawn to a story about Russian oligarchs and the rise to power of Vladimir Putin. But, as producer Sonia Friedman says, the play is both “incredibly timely and relevant,” although she notes that Morgan “wrote the bulk prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
Rupert Goold, the show’s director and artistic chief of the Almeida, says that he and Morgan began discussing the idea of Patriots...

Jodie Comer has caught the “stage bug.” Having triumphed in her debut performance in Prima Facie, she’s avidly seeking to follow up with another production in coming years.
“I’ll definitely do more theater,” the Killing Eve and Free Guy star told Deadline at the Olivier Awards after-party held at the Natural History Museum in Kensington, London just a hop, skip and a jump from the Royal Albert Hall, where earlier Sunday night the theater world’s luminaries gathered to give themselves a well-earned pat on the back.
The actress pointed to Prima Facie producer James Bierman and said, “I’m going to cling to him. I’ll follow him because he gave me this opportunity.”
Comer’s blistering performance as an attorney who defends rapists and is then sexually assaulted by a colleague has won her a stash of best actress hardware, including a statuette at the Olivier...

Plot: After her mom disappears while on vacation in Columbia, June (Reid) must search her digital trail to find answers.
Review: Searching took Sundance by storm back in 2018, so it’s no surprise that we finally received a sort-of sequel with Missing. I say sort of because there are no returning characters. This is simply using the screen-based gimmick and combining it with a different person having disappeared. In fact, with how simple the premise is, I’m surprised it took them so long to get this going. But does this manage to have the same level of tension and intrigue? For the first half, at least.
In Searching, we follow a father as he tries to find his missing daughter, but here things are turned around by having a daughter looking for her missing mother. There’s a vulnerability present from the jump because this is not a fully grown individual.
