When the trailer for The Idea of You first came out, many people mistakenly believed the rom-com is based on Harry Styles fan fiction. To be fair, it wouldn’t be the first time Hollywood looked to the One Direction singer for inspiration — Netflix’s After films, which are based on the books by Anna Todd, have direct roots in the author’s Wattpad fics about him.
But unlike After, The Idea of You (which premieres May 2 on Prime Video) was never fan fiction. Based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, the film centers on 40-year-old single mom Solène Marchand (Anne Hathaway) who unexpectedly embarks on a whirlwind romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the dreamy lead singer of popular boy band August Moon.

When Wattpad Webtoon Studios was preparing to release the drama “Float” this year, author Kate Marchant asked for a little help from her fans. The Lionsgate film was based on her story, and now she presented three movie posters to her followers, asking them to pick their favorite.
“I can feel your readers shifting in their seats,” Aron Levitz, president of Wattpad Webtoon Studios, says with a laugh. “All those creative execs are going, ‘Wait a minute, people knew about it before it went out? Are you sure that’s Ok?’”
For Levitz, the answer is a resounding yes. His company is shaking up the traditional approach to creating film and TV adaptations by putting the power in the hands of fans.
Just last month, the third movie in the “Through My Window” series, adapted from Wattpad author Ariana Godoy’s webnovels, dominated the Netflix film charts, amassing 14 million views...

Based on Anna Todd books, After is a romantic drama film series that has released five titles so far. In all the films, there are two characters that remain constant, even though the casting of the supporting actors keeps changing. Hardin Scott and Tessa Young were constants who went through their own journey of falling in and out of their relationship, which shaped them as human beings ready to face the world. Only one person out of the two was mature enough to make the right decision, and that was Tessa. Being the younger of two did not stop her from having a sensible head on her shoulder.
Tessa’s story began as a girl in her late teens moving to college and having a high school sweetheart by her side as well. Tessa’s mother and herself have remained each other’s constants so far, and her life so far has been decided.

It is the season to fall in love. February is just around the corner, and every person in love or seeking it is switching on to movies that tap into the emotion. There is no greater form of feeling than love, and with Valentine’s Day just two weeks away, it would be interesting to know what kind of movies could be viewed on that day with your loved ones. After is a series of five films based on Anna Todd’s series of novels that chronicles the stories of Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, who fall in love during their time in college.
The first film, After, was all about Tessa Young rediscovering her life in college after growing up under the thumb of her mother. She planned everything about her daughter’s life, including the college she would attend and what she would pursue after her education was completed.

The latest installment in the After franchise, based on the books by Anna Todd, finally lands in theaters on Sept. 7. "After Ever Happy" brings together Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) once again, as their relationship continues to evolve. But before you dive into our on-and-off-again lovers' complicated romance, you may want to catch up on the whole saga from the very beginning.
"After" was originally published on Wattpad, a site for amateur writers to self-share whatever they like. Todd started posting chapters of "After" in 2013 as a One Direction fan fiction. The character you know now as Hardin Scott was originally Harry Styles. In the book version of "After," Zed is Zayn Malik, Landon is Liam Payne, Nate is Niall Horan, and Logan is Louis Tomlinson. Read ahead for a full breakdown of everything that happens in the book version of "After."

Spoken English evolved such useful phrases as “blah blah blah” and “yada yada yada” so that in conversation we don’t have to suffer through numbingly repetitive descriptions of the perfectly obvious. Sadly, no such shorthand exists in the “After” universe, which, now on its fourth instalment, seems dedicated to spinning the already vanishingly wispy romance between good-girl Tessa and bad-boy Hardin, YA fiction’s most colossally boring golden couple, into ever thinner straw. After a placeholder second film (“After We Collided”) and a wheel-spinning third (“After We Fell”), the new episode — which itself ramps up to a face-palming “to be continued” — can’t even charitably be said to be blah. It’s the space between the blahs.
Laboring under the aggravatingly agrammatical title of “After Ever Happy” (hats off if you get the order of those three words right on your first attempt), this desultory go-round picks up at...

Finished the first book, "After"? Check out the next installment, "After We Collided." Want to know what you're getting before snagging the book? If you don't mind spoilers, just keep reading to find out exactly what happens in "After We Collided."
"After We Collided" Book Summary
"After We Collided" starts right after the revelation that Hardin only dated Tessa as a bet. Understandably, Tessa is destroyed by the news and wants nothing to do with Hardin. The boy, meanwhile, is desperate to win her back. Much of the book is a tug of war between these two, and of course, their journey is an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions.

If you're not ready to say goodbye to Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) just yet, don't worry, you won't have to - well beyond "After Ever Happy"'s upcoming release. Tiffin just revealed in an August Instagram video that a fifth film is coming. Fans had previously thought the fourth film, out Sept. 7, was Tiffin and Langford's final contributions to the saga.
Said Tiffin, "We have just wrapped filming on the fifth after movie. I can't tell you too much about it yet but I can tell you that it will be called 'After Everything,' and I cannot wait for you all to see it."
Of course, there were already even more "After" movies in the works. Back in April 2021, director Castille Landon exclusively confirmed to Teen Vogue that the "After" franchise would be getting even bigger with two more films on the way,...

If you've spent any time on social media over the last few years, you've probably run across at least one person gushing over English singer/songwriter Harry Styles. Recently, the English-born musician has inspired more than his fair share of Facebook groups, Instagram stories, TikToks, and novels. Styles also inspired Anna Todd's Wattpad story, "After," which was adapted into a popular film in 2019, and his influence on writers and filmmakers will continue in 2022.
Late one night, actress and writer Robinne Lee stumbled across the musician online and was shocked by his "aesthetically perfect" face. Styles' looks and preference for older women inspired Lee to write "The Idea of You" back in 2017. As with anything remotely associated with Styles, the story became a hit, and an adaptation of the book with Anne Hathaway is currently in the works.
Here's everything we know so far about "The Idea of You."

Exclusive: Even before the pandemic, the foreign sales market became mired down with some risky bets, i.e. the over exorbitant Roland Emmerich sci-fi disaster title Moonfall which carried a 140M production cost (resulting in a 44.3M WW gross), and Simon Kinberg’s femme spy ensemble The 355 at a 75M cost (which grossed just under 28M WW).
But there’s arguably a safer way to make moolah in the foreign sales sphere and that’s off of YA feature adaptations.
True, it’s been a while since the grand slam days of Lionsgate’s Hunger Games series and Summit International’s Twilight franchise, however, these movies can be made off a low cost yielding singles, doubles, or even home runs at the box office. Or worst case scenario, be in the black simply off their sales to streamers. And if a movie strikes out, it doesn’t sting so...

Fans of the YA After series should find something amid the tangled mess of plot, daytime-soap acting and inanimate passion – everyone else should look away
If you don’t identify as an Afternator or recognise the hashtag #Hessa, a short explanation is necessary. After is a clutch of bestselling YA romance novels once described as “Fifty Shades of Grey for teens”. US author Anna Todd started writing stories as fan fiction for the boyband One Direction and Harry Styles is the inspiration for broody-eyed bad-boy Hardin Scott; he’s the on-off boyfriend of bookish virginal college student Tessa Young. This film is the stupendously wooden and humourless third in the series. It’s heading straight to Amazon and should come with a warning to viewers: contains extremely boring sex.

Exclusive: Toronto born actress Kiana Madeira, who broke out recently in the Netflix hit trilogy Fear Street, has inked with Verve.
The movies, based on R.L. Stine’s acclaimed horror book series were shot back-to-back by director Leigh Janiak, with Madeira playing two different characters across three different time periods, Deena and Sarah.
The franchise broke the mold not only with the shooting schedule but for Netflix with a weekly release schedule, and eventized outdoor premieres at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Next up, Madeira is set to star as Nora in the next installments of the After film franchise, After We Fell and After Ever Happy, based on the best-selling books by Anna Todd.
Previously, on the television side, Madeira led the cast of the Daytime Emmy Award winning Netflix series Trinkets for two seasons, starred in the Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies, before starring on The Flash for the CW.

We didn't think the After franchise could get even more dramatic, but After We Fell is here to prove us wrong. On Thursday, Voltage Pictures released the latest trailer for the upcoming third installment of the franchise, which is based on Anna Todd's book series. As Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) attempt to repair their relationship following the events of After We Collided, they are hit with even more new obstacles. Be warned, though: some of these scenes are definitely Nsfw.
Langford and Fiennes Tiffin first announced that After We Fell and After Ever After were in production back in September 2020, shortly before the release of the second film. The third film is set to release on Sept. 30. Until then, you can revisit the first two movies, which are currently streaming on Netflix.

Exclusive: Filmmaker Castille Landon, who is already in post production on the third and fourth After movies, After We Fell and After Ever Happy, will remain aboard as the franchise’s director for a new feature prequel and sequel, but will also take on writing the fresh installments as well.
The After movies, based on the Anna Todd YA novel series, follow the loves and tribulations of Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin).
The prequel will center on a teenage Hardin, who is navigating his first love. The events that take place in these formative years shape the bedrock of the troubled but passionate Hardin we meet in the current After films.
The sequel will center on the next generation in the After universe – Tessa and Hardin’s kids Emery, Auden, and their cousin Addy navigate the turbulent waters of growing up and trying not to make the...

If you only know Josephine Langford as 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford's younger sister, then you've truly been missing out. The 23-year-old Australia native made her big acting debut in 2017's Wish Upon alongside Joey King, but her career really took off when she landed the leading role of Tessa Young in After, which is based on the novel of the same name by Anna Todd. After We Collided is the sequel to After, the teen drama adapted from the series of novels written by The New York Times bestselling author Anna Todd. Directed by Roger Kumble, it follows the tumultuous love story of Hardin Scott and Tessa Young - played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford - after Tessa first falls for Hardin because of a pretty awful prank in the first film. College is tough.
The second of the four-part franchise, After We Collided sees Tessa start her first internship at Vance publishing, a company owned by a friend of Hardin's dad. With some surprisingly familiar faces in the cast - including Pia Mia, Dylan Sprouse, and Selma Blair - the second installment of the After series is even juicier than the first, but it's not been an easy ride. The film first premiered on demand on Oct. 23, but if you didn't catch it the first time,...
